Bulbagarden Archives logo.png
Welcome to the Bulbagarden Archives, Jo The Marten!

As a new user, you may wish to learn a few things that will be useful in your uploading:

The Manual of Style, or MoS, outlines the format and guidelines of all images on Bulbagarden Archives.

All of our administrators are here to help! Talk to them if you have any questions or problems with the Archives.

Tagging images with correct licenses and categories is a must. These guidelines will help you learn more about tagging images.

Miscellaneous
  • Please read the checklist when you upload media files. The checklist is there to make sure you are doing everything necessary when uploading said media files.
  • Be sure to tag and categorize all images. This helps organize the vast amount of images we have here.
  • Check if your image already exists by searching through categories, and Bulbapedia pages. This action will help prevent unnecessary duplicates from appearing.
  • When adding a licensing tag to anime or game screenshots, please avoid just choosing "Screenshot". This is not descriptive and places the images in the wrong category. Make sure to choose "Screenshot from a Pokémon game," or "Screenshot from the Pokémon anime." This will put them in the right categories, and help keep the Archives clean.
  • Does your image have a purpose? Will you be using it on a Bulbagarden Project? Avoid uploading images because you think they are "Cute" or "Awesome". That clutters the Archives.
  • Personal images are limited to two for each User. Personal images include personal logos, personal trainer sprites, drawings, trainer cards and mostly any image that would only be used in the User: namespace and have no encyclopedic value to Bulbagarden and its affiliates. Please tag these with the {{i-Personal}} template for easier organization. Under no circumstance should a photograph of one's self ever be uploaded onto Bulbagarden Archives.
  • In addition, please upload images with meaningful names. Names that are just numbers, for example, do not describe anything about the image, and can make it difficult for searchers. Names are just as important as licenses and categories, so make them descriptive. Please be sure that the filenames contain alphanumeric characters only.
  • Due to the many automated templates used on the wiki, lowercase extensions are imperative. That means jpg and png instead of JPG and PNG. It looks cleaner, it works better, and it does not cause any problems. Make sure to always use lowercase extensions.
  • If you're confused about the requirements for uploading files, have a look at this guide.
Thank you, and have a good time uploading here!

Regarding PPW

I'm not offending you by helping with your project, am I?

Templates

Please use {{p}} when addressing Pokémon, just like on Bulbapedia. ht14 04:22, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

Image sizes

1440 x whatever that was is nice and all, but we prefer 1280 x 720 because if we keep allowing bigger, other users, ie one user, will whine, cry, complain and want to upload his 4000x4000 "fairuse images". So resize them to 1280 please. Thank you. 8D --P S Yライダー 14:31, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

Oh, oops. I didn't even check the sizes. I'm actually on the laptop again so my image editing skills are limited here. :x So I'm at the mercy of what my source has to offer. Jo The Marten 14:56, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

Over 2MB stuff ready for upload!

Revenge
Skull Bash
I'm not surprised that Skull Bash was over 2 MB but Revenge? Must have been those vapors. Anyhow no rush, whenever you have time! Hopefully I'll be able to kick up the pace soon. - Trainer Hunter 08:50, 11 October 2011 (UTC)

Done and done. Jo The Marten 07:00, 12 October 2011 (UTC)
Selfdestruct
Synthesis
Just a few more for now. Thanks again! - Trainer Hunter 06:15, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
Finished~ Jo The Marten 08:06, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
Wow, that was fast. By the way, I know this isn't part of the 2 MB thing but Should this be changed to "Synthesis IV"? There's no actual Synthesis IV image and this one kinda stands out from the other 4th gen images, filename-wise. - Trainer Hunter 17:55, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
I concur. I've since moved it. Jo The Marten 19:29, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
Could you upload these please? (Or replace in the case of the Shadow moves). I had asked Masatoshi but he didnt get round to uploading them. Thanks in advance.

Swallow
Wow, not much from this batch. Just about every image co-operated aside from this. - Trainer Hunter 12:15, 18 October 2011 (UTC)
Inferno
Overheat
Magic Coat
Geez, those flames like to bloat up the filesize. -- Trainer Hunter -- 08:35, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
Our servers just can't handle the heat. :P Overheat was being weird when I tried uploading it, but I eventually got it to work. Jo The Marten 14:15, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
Hurricane
Muddy Water
Yeesh, hurricane and its transparencies and backgrounds. By the way, now that there's a 5th gen image for every move (animated or non-animated) EXCEPT Secret Power, how should I get around to that. I'd guess just record everything, but which version would I put up in the move template? - unsigned comment from Trainer Hunter (talkcontribs)
I talked it over with some other staff members and we've chosen to let you upload all of the different Secret Powers and implement a switch template into the infobox. As for the bottom of the page (where they have the terrains and what not), you can just let us take care of that. :) Thanks for all of your help! Jo The Marten 02:14, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
Always willing to help, and that sounds like a plan. I'll probably get started on that and getting all the unanimated 5th gen images animated sometime later (Soon, but not today. Need to take care of some things somewhere else, and need to figure out where I can get a battle in ice/snow as is).
By the way, is there any chance you can do that with Weather Ball too? Or something of the like? I tried bringing that up to Masatoshi but it was just before his hiatus. I admittedly did upload them in advance and someone stuffed the extras in the "other generations section" so you can see them all there. -- Trainer Hunter -- 03:39, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
Secret Power (Building)
Secret Power (Cave)
Secret Power (Grass)
Secret Power (Puddle)
Secret Power (Sand)
Secret Power (Snow)
Secret Power (Water)
Well I got to that quicker than expected. Figured out how to take care of snow/ice with the tools I've got, too. I guess its your guys' turn on this one. If you want to move the files to a better name or whatnot go ahead, I just used names I figured would work. -- Trainer Hunter -- 11:52, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
Fusion Bolt
Fusion Bolt (Boosted)
Fusion Flare (Boosted)
I also have V-create over 2 MB, but since I don't have any way to have a Japanese-named Victini in recording without using a Japanese game, would this still work? I just made sure the level would be the same as an English-release event Victini (Since we all know it's gonna happen), but if that's not good then feel free to not use it. Not to mention I can change it if they decide on a silly level change or something. And what about the other event moves, like the unreleased events' signatures, or Freeze Shock/Ice Burn? I'd imagine making animations of those would be okay? Since there's already still images on the site. -- Trainer Hunter -- 11:33, 27 October 2011 (UTC)
Finally got around to uploading these. I wanted to ask someone else's opinion before doing so. They didn't seem to care about V-Create being uploaded. Jo The Marten 09:34, 28 October 2011 (UTC)
What about the unreleased events' signature moves (Secret Sword, Relic Song, and Techno Blast)? Or Freeze Shock and Ice Burn?
Glaciate
Freeze Shock (Unreleased move)
Ice Burn (Unreleased move)
I kinda took care of these the same time I took care of Fusion Bolt/Flare, but I didn't get to making animated PNGs of them until now. Glaciate's simple enough, but if you guys don't want the Freeze Shock or Ice Burn animations as is I can make new animations under most stated conditions. Also, I'm not gonna consider making Secret Sword/Relic Song/Techno Blast animations until you guys say it's okay, since I really don't know the policy of unreleased moves in general. -- Trainer Hunter -- 03:15, 29 October 2011 (UTC)
Unreleased moves are 100% absolutely A-OK. Even in English. Jo The Marten 03:33, 29 October 2011 (UTC)
Jo's right, do not fret and upload them anyways. Masatoshitalk 06:21, 29 October 2011 (UTC)
Ah, okay then, thanks! Though... I'm still gonna need those Kyurem move imaged uploaded by you guys as they're all over 2MB. And I'm gonna get to some more moves for now, though the pace might temporarily slow a bit. -- Trainer Hunter -- 08:15, 29 October 2011 (UTC)

Reset. Since Masatoshi didn't responded yet (despite leaving a note about the files over limit on his discussion) and Imageshack fails to show animated files for me... Two files over limit. Blizzard and Dream Eater from Generation III. I hope they're OK. Marked +-+-+ 09:49, 29 October 2011 (UTC)

Searing Shot
I actually had this one made originally, but then I realized there was something wrong with the popcorn. Colors should be correct on this one. Also, whenever you do get to that switch template, aside from Secret Power and Weather Ball, can you also add it for Techno Blast? Apparently the fire, water, electric, and ice ones have different colors. -- Trainer Hunter -- 12:22, 29 October 2011 (UTC)
Marked, would you mind uploading your images to an image hosting site like Trainer Hunter is? It's actually the only way I can upload images over 2MB. Jo The Marten 02:22, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
Don't worry, Jo, I already uploaded them. And Marked, replied on my talk page. Masatoshitalk 04:42, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
Can you do me a favor?
4th Gen Speed Test
How does this look? I tried asking Masatoshi but it's almost been a week since he responded. I want to have some administrative approval on speed beforehand for 4th gen, since I had (and still have) to readjust the speed of my earlier 5th gen animations. If he doesn't respond soon I might have to ask you to relay over 2MB images again, too. -- Trainer Hunter -- 13:44, 21 November 2011 (UTC)
It seems perfectly fine to me, and other staff members I've shown it to. So you've got multiple "Okay"s. :) Jo The Marten 07:46, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. Got my current 4th gen set uploaded, more to come. 4th gen seems pretty cooperative (Probably due to lack of pokémon animations and camera tricks), though I'm probably gonna have to ask questions later.
Flash Cannon
Frenzy Plant
Grudge
Metal Burst
Roar of Time
I might have to relay the remaining 5th gen images here if Masatoshi's gone any longer. -- Trainer Hunter -- 20:44, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
That's fine by me. But it seems like these files have already been uploaded. I'm curious as to why you're posting them again. Jo The Marten 00:26, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
Remember how I said I needed to reupload some 5th gen images? To slow them down a bit since I was told they were too fast, and some other stuff like freezing the frame at the first moment the HUD pops back up. Those are the remainder of what I need to adjust, basically. -- Trainer Hunter -- 00:32, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
Okay, I'll just relay these last three images, then.
Quiver Dance
Sweet Scent (Overworld)
Teleport (Overworld)
And I might as well ask this question now. Say I were to come across an instance where there's two separate versions. Say... this and this for example. But the versions are actually the same. Should I just pick one and put a move template, and then put a delete template on the other? Or what? Most definitely gonna have to do that with Gust. -- Trainer Hunter -- 20:32, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

(Reset) If I'm understanding your question correctly: If they're 100% exactly the same, then yeah, upload over one and one of the admins will move it, then we'll delete the other one. I'm assuming the HGSS move is simply later in the animation since based solely on the two images we have, they do look different. But I haven't played a Gen IV game for a long while and I don't remember what every move looked like, so I'll take your word for it that they're the same. Keep up the good work. Jo The Marten 22:24, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

Actually, one lacks the in-game transparencies. I'm sure they're 100% the same when ignoring that goof. And thanks, I'll make sure to set up those templates when I get back on recording moves. -- Trainer Hunter -- 23:14, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

A request...

First off, nice job with the custom menu sprites, Jo! Would it be possible for you to make Shiny Legendary beasts menu sprites for their article in Bulbapedia? Thank you for your time. - Chosen of Mana 18:06, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

It is completely possible. But I was told by other staff that because the color difference between the regular beasts and shiny beasts is so minimal (mostly for Entei), to not worry about making them. Personally I wouldn't mind having them. But those higher in authority know what's best, so I just did what I was told. Jo The Marten 00:15, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
Gotcha. Keep up the good work. - Chosen of Mana 02:34, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

Batch uploading

Is there any way to do a batch upload? I am making the Trozei sprites transparent, which means I have about 350 images to upload, which will take forever. Is uploading multiple images at a time possible? --Jdthebud 03:46, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

Only admins and above can do mass uploads, but it's usually a mess. Plus, I don't think you can upload new versions of files in masses. You'll have to do it all manually. Or if you like, upload a Zip file of all the sprites to a file sharing site and we can organize a little upload party to split up the work. Jo The Marten 07:01, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
Can we split the work? I'll do the Kanto ones myself. I uploaded the Johto (99 images) and Hoenn (135 images) ones in .rar files to MediaFire. Johto Hoenn
Can we maybe try to get at least a couple more people? Who do we ask to join the party? TIA! --Jdthebud 07:26, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
We can definitely get more people in on this. But at the time that I'm posting this response, most of the staff have gone to bed. ^^; But once a few more are present and accounted for, I see no reason not to. Jo The Marten 14:03, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
You know what, the uploading is going a lot faster than I thought it would, so I'll just upload all the images myself. --Jdthebud 03:14, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

Trainer sprite format

It's File:Spr <gamecode> <trainername>.png. Example would be File:Spr BW Maid.png. ht14 22:29, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

Thing is, the Hoenn gym leader sprites all followed an old format of "Sprite<trainer>.png" so rather than rename ALL of them, I just fixed the ones that weren't the same. Kogoro said it'd be best to leave that (massive) project for another day (like when it's not the holidays) and simply make them consistent for now. Jo The Marten 01:06, 24 December 2011 (UTC)
That is fine; just wanted to make sure you were aware. ht14 01:54, 24 December 2011 (UTC)

Cropping

Are you sure the images are distorted ? I mean, as I see them through my monitor they seem quite ok. I don't want you to take it as an offense but wouldn't be possible that your browser or your monitor makes them look this way ? Could I suggest you consult with an other admin? Please do not take my advice as an insult.----DJWolfy 18:22, 11 April 2012 (UTC)

Considering a large chunk of the image is missing when you crop out the logo, yes, it is distorted. Jo The Marten 18:46, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
Actually, what do you mean by distorted ? The image looks fine, it doesn't look shaky and it retains its 720p quality screenshot. It is very tiring to remove 50 logos since they contain a lot of detail and as I said before it's like trying to remove a house only to see the fence behind it. The best solution is cropping and it doesn't make them look bad, trust me. I can send you a screenshot on how I view them.----DJWolfy 18:49, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
"A distortion is the alteration of the original shape (or other characteristic) of an object, image, sound, waveform or other form of information or representation." You are altering the shape by cropping them. They're supposed to have a widescreen 6:3 resolution, but your cropping is causing the images to be distorted and improperly sized. If you can't provide screenshots without cropping out chunks of the image, then please don't worry about it and just wait for someone else to do it. Jo The Marten 18:56, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
Well then, if it is a 6:3 you want then I shall try and do so. But it will take some time to make a good removal of the watermark. Since there are some missing error images I can upload them and then whoever wants can upload a new version, at least this way someone will notice.----DJWolfy 19:01, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
That only creates more work. Please just hold off on uploading screenshots at all. Jo The Marten 19:05, 11 April 2012 (UTC)

Fine, I'll just upload screenshots I'm able to unwatermark them. Is that ok ? Btw, relating to the images you are uploading, do you take screenshots from episodes which don't have watermarks or do you use something else ?----DJWolfy 19:09, 11 April 2012 (UTC)

About before, I was wrong. 16:9 is the actual resolution. 1280 x 720 is the maximum size. Anything below that is okay too (as long as it isn't itty bitty.) I have some episodes that don't have any watermarks or logos at all, and the ones that do have logos I will photoshop. We aren't against photoshops as long as you can't tell that it has been shopped. Jo The Marten 19:16, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
Is it possible for a image that has been cropped to have a 16:9? Or at least to not appear "distorted" ?----DJWolfy 19:21, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
It would still be distorted. You seem to be confused on the definition of distorted even though I sent you a definition. Basically if you alter the image in any way that it is noticeable, that is distortion. For example, with this image, I knew Cilan was originally in the shot, and when I noticed he wasn't in your screenshot, I knew you had cropped the image. That's distortion. So even if you kept the 16:9 resolution, it would still be distorted because parts of the image that should be there wouldn't be. Jo The Marten 19:30, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
So it's distorted just because some notices it that something it misses. Well, even so, it's supposed to show an error not to focus on someone else, exactly as WTP, they focus on the Pokémon not on the random black and white tiles. Seriously, I thought you are seeing the image shaky or blurry. But it turned out it was just because someone was missing. Again, I don't understand the integrity of this since it should only focus on its main error or character.----DJWolfy 19:35, 11 April 2012 (UTC)

Duplicated Photos Deleted

You deleted the photos that I uploaded, and said that they were duplicates. Could you please link me to the other photos? I'm a newbie, so sorry about that. ^^ ----Torlup24 05:12, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

They were uploaded a few seconds before yours. Jo The Marten 05:34, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

Okay! :) Thank you! ----Torlup24 05:36, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

DVD covers

Should they be in jpg or png format ?----DJWolfy 21:57, 15 April 2012 (UTC)

png please. Jo The Marten 23:49, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
That's what I thought, I saw a dvd cover was in jpg format on M12's page and I was in doubt if I should convert it or not. Thanks !----DJWolfy 06:28, 16 April 2012 (UTC)

To-Do list

For the Crystal back sprites section, what is missing? It looks complete when I look through it. G50 21:16, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

I don't know. Jo The Marten 22:46, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

Here's a bigger map of Oblivia

Hi, could you upload this map in the Oblivia article on Bulbapedia? It's a much bigger resolution (1921 x 1364). I found it on the official Pokémon Ranger site as a background picture: [1] I would upload it myself, but I don't have the rights and maybe not the knowledge either. PokeAwesome94 9 June 2012

Nah. It's past our size limit, and the white on the sides hides the trench in the Eastern part of the sea. Ours is a perfectly acceptable size, and shows the entire Oblivia. Jo The Marten 23:03, 9 June 2012 (UTC)

Overworld sprites for B2W2.

Out of curiosity... you have them from the game itself? If yes, then remember to also get the OD sprites of any Generation V Pokémon that appear in overworld (as the 493 Pokémon from previous games have these from HGSS) Marked +-+-+ (talk) 20:40, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

Ah, sure. Jo The Marten (talk) 22:28, 23 June 2012 (UTC)
