Welcome

Bulbagarden Archives logo.png
Welcome to the Bulbagarden Archives, Pokeant!

As a new user, you may wish to learn a few things that will be useful in your uploading:

The Manual of Style, or MoS, outlines the format and guidelines of all images on Bulbagarden Archives.

All of our administrators are here to help! Talk to them if you have any questions or problems with the Archives.

Tagging images with correct licenses and categories is a must. These guidelines will help you learn more about tagging images.

Miscellaneous
  • Please read the checklist when you upload media files. The checklist is there to make sure you are doing everything necessary when uploading said media files.
  • Be sure to tag and categorize all images. This helps organize the vast amount of images we have here.
  • Check if your image already exists by searching through categories, and Bulbapedia pages. This action will help prevent unnecessary duplicates from appearing.
  • When adding a licensing tag to anime or game screenshots, please avoid just choosing "Screenshot". This is not descriptive and places the images in the wrong category. Make sure to choose "Screenshot from a Pokémon game," or "Screenshot from the Pokémon anime." This will put them in the right categories, and help keep the Archives clean.
  • Does your image have a purpose? Will you be using it on a Bulbagarden Project? Avoid uploading images because you think they are "Cute" or "Awesome". That clutters the Archives.
  • Personal images are limited to two for each User. Personal images include personal logos, personal trainer sprites, drawings, trainer cards and mostly any image that would only be used in the User: namespace and have no encyclopedic value to Bulbagarden and its affiliates. Please tag these with the {{i-Personal}} template for easier organization. Under no circumstance should a photograph of one's self ever be uploaded onto Bulbapedia Archives.
  • In addition, please upload images with meaningful names. Names that are just numbers, for example, do not describe anything about the image, and can make it difficult for searchers. Names are just as important as licenses and categories, so make them descriptive.
  • Due to the many automated templates used on the wiki, lowercase extensions are imperative. That means jpg and png instead of JPG and PNG. It looks cleaner, it works better, and it does not cause any problems. Make sure to always use lowercase extensions.
  • If you're confused about the requirements for uploading files, have a look at this guide.
Thank you, and have a good time uploading here!

Lowercase extensions

If you would have bothered to read the welcome, you would know that "PNG" instead of "png" is against the rules. Stop doing it. MaverickNate 15:03, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

All Images

They need summaries, and categories. Read the welcome: it explains everything you are supposed to do. Don't just mass upload...do them correctly. MaverickNate 21:19, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

HGSS trainer sprites

Hi, I noticed all the sprites you have uploaded arent transparent. I am working on getting them transparent. I suggest getting a program such as GIMP in the future. Blake 13:31, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

DP Camper

Did you just upload the HGSS camper over the DP camper? I would suggest fixing that. Blake 13:58, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

Location things

Any more eyecatches please upload as File:HGSS_Location_Name-Time.png. Don't worry about the other ones, I'll move them later. —darklordtrom 08:45, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

So....

....Any reason for changing the size of Silver's Sprite?--Force Fire 12:16, 12 October 2009 (UTC)

Hey

Can you change the sizing for the Gen II gym trainer sprites? I'm changing the gif to png. Apparently both were uploaded and users decided on the gif one... ht14 02:34, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

Hey

Just to let you know the new trainer sprite naming standard is Spr BW Trainername/class (F/M).png I'm going to have to move all these sprites to their correct names, but I hope you'll change them on the 'pedia side. Jellotalk 15:17, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

Hey (3)

All right, here's the deal. Do not forget to categorize. Next off, it's Pokémon, not Pokemon. ht14 21:59, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

PPM requests

Can you upload images of Blue's Pokémon, and the Pokémon that Red and Green used in the curry competition of PM027? With our teamwork, we can get the Pocket Monsters manga articles up to date. Pattyman 03:13, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

Manga filenames

Please make sure to capitalize Pokémon names in the filenames when you upload. Please also make sure to include a summary for each upload. Thanks. G50 04:06, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

What you did with Blaine's Primeape is exactly what she was saying. Good job. Pattyman (talk) 04:17, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

Pokémon Pocket Monsters manga

To tag Pokémon Pocket Monsters manga images, you can add ==Licensing:== {{i-Fairuse-manga-PM}} to the summary box on Upload Media. :) G50 14:25, 15 October 2012 (UTC)

RGB Artwork

Hello, I saw your messages on my talk page. The Ken Sugimori artwork is very confusing but I think your sandbox does a really good job of explaining it. Make sure you tell the admins so the file names can be changed. Just a few things I'd like to add:

  • I plan on uploading the two pictures of Pikachu from Yellow over the next few days. I'll make sure to name them 025Pikachu Y.png and 025Pikachu Y 2.png
  • I recently purchased a Japanese book apparently dated 1997 featuring the later RG art. I plan on using it to upload better quality images but how quickly I upload depends on how much spare time I have. If the date is correct, we know the art was definitely released before Japanese Yellow. You mentioned on your Sandbox that it was released before Japanese Blue, do you know this for certain? I was under the impression it was released later.
  • this video might show where the later artwork originally came from but apparently some of the cards were released as late as 1998? It's worth looking into.

Mew artwork

Hey, just making sure you saw my response on my talk page. I looked at a pdf of the Crystal Nintendo Power guide and I noticed that as well as that Mew and Horsea artwork it features Clefairy artwork that I've never seen before and the redesigned Jynx. I have uploaded both of these.
