Welcome to the Bulbagarden Archives, Shiny Noctowl!

As a new user, you may wish to learn a few things that will be useful in your uploading:

The Manual of Style, or MoS, outlines the format and guidelines of all images on Bulbagarden Archives.

All of our administrators are here to help! Talk to them if you have any questions or problems with the Archives.

Tagging images with correct licenses and categories is a must. These guidelines will help you learn more about tagging images.

Miscellaneous
  • Please read the checklist when you upload media files. The checklist is there to make sure you are doing everything necessary when uploading said media files.
  • Be sure to tag and categorize all images. This helps organize the vast amount of images we have here.
  • Check if your image already exists by searching through categories, and Bulbapedia pages. This action will help prevent unnecessary duplicates from appearing.
  • When adding a licensing tag to anime or game screenshots, please avoid just choosing "Screenshot". This is not descriptive and places the images in the wrong category. Make sure to choose "Screenshot from a Pokémon game," or "Screenshot from the Pokémon anime." This will put them in the right categories, and help keep the Archives clean.
  • Does your image have a purpose? Will you be using it on a Bulbagarden Project? Avoid uploading images because you think they are "Cute" or "Awesome". That clutters the Archives.
  • Personal images are limited to two for each User. Personal images include personal logos, personal trainer sprites, drawings, trainer cards and mostly any image that would only be used in the User: namespace and have no encyclopedic value to Bulbagarden and its affiliates. Please tag these with the {{i-Personal}} template for easier organization. Under no circumstance should a photograph of one's self ever be uploaded onto Bulbagarden Archives.
  • In addition, please upload images with meaningful names. Names that are just numbers, for example, do not describe anything about the image, and can make it difficult for searchers. Names are just as important as licenses and categories, so make them descriptive. Please be sure that the filenames contain alphanumeric characters only.
  • Due to the many automated templates used on the wiki, lowercase extensions are imperative. That means jpg and png instead of JPG and PNG. It looks cleaner, it works better, and it does not cause any problems. Make sure to always use lowercase extensions.
  • If you're confused about the requirements for uploading files, have a look at this guide.
Thank you, and have a good time uploading here!

BW Prelease Route 1.png

May I ask where you got this image from? Last I checked, they were not available on the BW site. If it's taken from Serebii or any other site, we're going to have to delete it. JelloTalk 03:25, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Why does it matter if it's from another site? Because it's fair use, Serebii or anyone else wouldn't have any copyright claims. --Shiny Noctowl 19:40, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
It does matter, last time I checked Serebii didn't like having his images taken, and neither would any other site. Also, the reason I asked is, these specific images come from a press kit that's usually e-mailed to the media, and as far as I know only Serebii (from the Pokémon fandom that is) actually receives these press kits. Right now Bulbanews is in the process of getting these press kits as well, but for now we can't have people taking these screenshots from other sites. (Unless they appear on the official site themselves) I hope you understand. JelloTalk 19:51, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
A lower-quality version of this image was in the most recent CoroCoro issue, so it's not like it's a completely new image that hadn't been revealed before. --Shiny Noctowl 19:59, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
Alright, I'll let this one go for now, but in the future if some site has an exclusive, then I'd advise you not to take it from them without permission. JelloTalk 20:01, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
Heh. Look at places like 4Gamer, Game Watch, etc.--immewnitythemew 21:18, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Couple of things

that went wrong when you uploaded those screenshots. First, the filenames are not alphanumeric. Second, they should be in .png format, NOT .jpg and finally, you went over the size limit of 1080 by 1080 pixels, which is conveniently placed on top of the site. You have been here long enough to know the rules by now. JelloTalk 01:56, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

Also, upload it right the first time before you revert a JA. --Psyライダー 02:00, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
According to the upload page, the main problem is with multi-byte characters, not other single-byte characters. Why should the files be in .png when the original source was .jpg? Finally, why is there a limit on image dimension? Wouldn't a limit on file size make more sense? --Shiny Noctowl 02:02, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
