Change in flag after fall of Assad
Earlier this month, a renewal of armed hostilities during the Syrian civil war culminated in head of state Bashar al-Assad fleeing the country, resulting in opposition movements taking control. In light of this, the red-white-black tricolor is no longer officially used, and a 2:3 version of the old green-white-black flag has become its de facto replacement. Additionally, unlike the similarly exiled Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the Assad regime is no longer internationally recognized as the legitimate government of Syria. Given this, would it be a good idea to change the flag to the green-white-black one, or should we wait until an official announcement on its de jure status? - Hi, to give you an answer, in theory it can be updated if someone wants to but its also worth noting the file's use-case. In this case we only use it to denote which broadcasters were dubbing anime 20+ years ago for which the Assad era Syrian flag is still relevant, given that was the national flag at that time. Going forward for relevancy and recognisability's sake we can change that when a new flag is officially proclaimed but I dont think theres a rush that we need to do so right away and it is probably better to wait for de-jure recognition of the rebel flag. 4iamking 12:10, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
