Anime images
When uploading new images from the anime, can you ensure the images are cropped in future so there are no visible borders.--BigDocFan, Junior Admin Bulbapedia (talk) 09:05, 7 April 2023 (UTC)
Thank you, will do Thespeon196 (talk) 11:40, 7 April 2023 (UTC)
Celebrate
Noticed that there's a visible cursor in your Generation IX images of Celebrate. --FinnishPokéFan92 (talk) 09:50, 3 June 2023 (UTC)
- Woops! Thanks for telling me. Will upload a new one later. Thespeon196 (talk) 10:01, 4 June 2023 (UTC)
Title card screenshots
Hey, thank you uploading better quality screenshots of the movie title screens! If you have access to good quality sources of the movies, would you also be able to add screenshots for the movie opening themes? Apart from M20-M23, I used random screenshots from around the opening theme scenes when I made the table, but it would be useful to have actual screenshots of the main characters during the opening theme. If you're interested, it'd be a huge help. I'd be happy to help with relinking and anything else. Thanks! → SuperPikaPool13 16:18, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hey, sure I'm happy to help! I probably don't have time today but I'll definitely get it done by Thursday night. Thank you for asking, and I'd be happy to help in any future endeavour too! --Thespeon196 (talk) 17:50, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
Image Categories for Costumes
Hi! So I wanted to ask help with something: should certain Pokémon categories be added for images where a character is dressed up as a certain Pokémon for a costume? Because I've seen that some of Meowth's Pokémon disguises have a category for the respective Pokémon he's dressed up as, but that's not the case for other characters that are wearing Pokémon costumes, so I wanted to ask for your help with this topic. AnnieCat07 (talk) 15:30, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hi AnnieCat07. Yeah, I've thought the same thing in the past, some pages have the category of the Pokémon they are disguised/dressed up as, some not. I suppose if you've already started adding those categories to the pages, by all means carry on if it's something you want to do. At least we're being consistent that way.
- A nice addition too, though, would be a category for Team Rocket disguises, since I suspect that covers a lot of those disguises/dressing up, and would keep them all neatly in one place then. Something like
[[Category:Team Rocket disguises]]. Are you okay making the category? --Thespeon196 (talk) 15:58, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
- Yeah sure I'm okay with it! Though I can't create pages so if you want, you can create the Category. AnnieCat07 (talk) 16:02, 15 December 2024

Category:Team Rocket disguises! Thank you for your help in categorising and organising the Archives! --Thespeon196 (talk) 16:17, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
- Created
- No problem! Also btw, I also wanted to ask if you could create a separate Category for Jessie's Wobbuffet since I feel that he's a unique character with a ton of images just like Team Rocket's Meowth. AnnieCat07 (talk) 17:02, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
- Yeah I think that's a good call. He's in multiple series, countless episodes with the rest of TRT. Will take a while to add the category to all the files, but it will be worth it long term! Thespeon196 (talk) 17:39, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
New Pikachu Category
Hi! So I wanted to ask if you think that the Cosplay Pikachus should have their own Category? Cause I think that they're unique enough that they should be separate from just the regular Pikachu category. AnnieCat07 (talk) 18:07, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hi! I think an additional category for the Cosplay Pikachu would be good to group them together. I think it would be a good idea to leave
Category:Pikachuon the files as well (mostly to retain all of the Sugimori-style art at the top of Pikachu's category), but addCategory:Cosplay Pikachuto them too. --Thespeon196 (talk) 19:05, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
- Alright! Then I'll leave the
Category:Pikachuon the main Sugimori artwork, and I'll change it for the rest of the images like screenshots and TCG cards if you think that's okay. Thanks for creating the Category! AnnieCat07 (talk) 19:21, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
- Alright! Then I'll leave the
New Character Category
Hey so, I've been rewatching some anime episodes recently, and I was wondering if you could create an image Category for Clembot? Cause he's made enough apperances throughout the series that I think he deserve a separate Category for his images. AnnieCat07 (talk) 19:01, 27 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hey, that sounds good. I think you might be able to make the category yourself. Try clicking on this link here. On the page, put something like:
The following are images of {{bp|Clembot}}, who was built by {{an|Clemont}} in {{bp|Pokémon the Series}}. Add[[Category:Anime characters]]on the next line of the page too. Let me know if it works for you! --Thespeon196 (talk) 19:40, 27 December 2024 (UTC)
- Oh yeah it did work for me, thanks! AnnieCat07 (talk) 20:08, 27 December 2024 (UTC)
Regarding image summary
Hey!
I saw you had to edit the summary I provided for every image as of now.^^'
I just wanted to make sure if I should copy-paste your corrected version from now on? (of course with Pokémon name, etc. adjusted)
Well, specifically, I'm wondering if I need to include the first line (with summary and two = on each side) to create the summary section or if that's automatically generated? - unsigned comment from Moribundead (talk • contribs)
- Hey, thanks for your inquiry!
- Yeah, I think copy-pasting with the adjustment for the Pokémon etc. would be a good idea. It's usually good practice to look at similar, established images to the ones you are about to upload to see the approximate licensing and categories to add. You don't have to add the Summary with the two = using the upload form, so don't worry about that.
- It's no trouble at all for me to edit your image descriptions by the way - you are completely new here, and props for having had a good attempt too! --Thespeon196 (talk) 17:19, 1 February 2025 (UTC)
- Oh by the way, if you are going to copy-paste with the adjustments I've made, don't choose any licensing from the dropdown box on the upload form, as the text you've copied will include the licensing already! --Thespeon196 (talk) 17:25, 1 February 2025 (UTC)
Alright, thank you for your answer(s)! :)
I have another question, however... since I was worried about how fast unused images are deleted, I made two changes to the Tamato Berry page in order to feature my (1+2) new uploads in a gallery (in the merchandise section)... do you think that makes any sense or should I upload more images before editing it again? (and does it make any sense that I included a "WIP" (work in progress) there? I figured it'd be helpful to let whoever might happen to stumble across it today know it's not done yet, but it looks kinda... odd. I could probably mark it as a stub section or something, but it's not like I actually need any help with it.)
By the way, I totally forgot to sign last time... doing it now!
Moribundead (talk) 17:43, 1 February 2025 (UTC)
- No problem! Ideally, all images that are uploaded here on the Archives should be needed and used on Bulbapedia. If you intend to use more images on Bulbapedia, it would be fine to upload them all at once here, and then edit the Tamato Berry page after that. Unused images don't get deleted immediately, don't worry about not using them for a day or two! It's probably best not to include the "WIP" on the wiki page, and instead mention that you intend to do more editing of the page in the Edit Summary box before you save the changes. This should signal to other users that the section is a work in progress --Thespeon196 (talk) 18:00, 1 February 2025 (UTC)
Questions about image categories
Hey,
it's me again; this time I have some questions regarding image categories.
As you probably know, I also uploaded images of goods (not just figures), so I was wondering if they should have a category like figures do, too, so you can find them later. Either just "goods" or roughly what they are (keychain, plush, can badge, etc)?
I'm also wondering about what to do if a piece of merchandise features just a tiny bit of a location, like the gym stone statues salt and pepper shakers I uploaded earlier. Should the category be Location artwork? As of now, the file has no category, because nothing really seemed to fit...
Also, I'm not sure if you're the right one to ask about the following, but when I was looking through the TCG cards, I was wondering if I should add the Location artwork category to the images of the cards featuring them (or a category for the exact location)? I've seen it done for cards featuring items here and here, but not for locations as of yet as far as I know. I would find it to be helpful. What do you think?
Moribundead (talk) 21:00, 4 February 2025 (UTC)
- Hey again, thank you for all your contributions!
- In terms of further dividing "goods", plush certainly have a category (Category:Plushies), though keychains and can badges don't have their own category to my knowledge. Merchandise like this are usually categorised as part of the collection they were released in, though it wouldn't be a bad idea to create Keychain, Can Badge etc. categories inside of Category:Merchandise to make finding them easier, like you say.
- For the gym stone statues, if it's just one or two images, I think just add Category:Merchandise and Category:Bandai Namco to them. If there are more to come, it would be a good idea to create a category for them and place that inside Category:Merchandise. Even better, if you upload enough (say 4+) images which are part of a larger named collection of goods, they could be added to that category.
- It seems we don't really add categories for locations on non-TCG merchandise, and the TCG cards which do have them are of the location named on the card. I'm not sure how many locations there are in the backgrounds of TCG cards (TCG is not my specialist subject!), but, given how many cards there are, it would still be a large undertaking to try and add such categories! Given that we don't have categories for specific locations at all right now (which is potentially an interesting idea for the future!), maybe a compromise for the minute would be to create a "TCG locations" category for those cards already in the Location artwork category. Cards which have clearly identifiable locations could then potentially be added to this in the future when I/we get a rough idea of how many there would be.
- I can create the categories if you like, let me know what you think!
- Sorry it took me so long to reply, I'm not so great at concentrating at the moment...
- Alright, I didn't realize the merchandise category already existed. Since you mentioned larger series and specialist subjects, would it be okay if I just add the "keychain" category to this? There are over 200 more in that series and this is the only one with an item, so I'm not really interested in uploading the rest....
- By the way, do you agree that the category should just be "keychains" no matter if it's called "rubber mascot", "dangler", "charm", "strap", etc.? (I'm just asking this because I used to be on a website where items were further categorized like that, however causing interchangeability issues...)
- Also, it just dawned on me that those Gym Statue salt & pepper shakers should probably go into a "kitchenware" category...
- And I understood that I should add the manufacturer as a category as well (as long as there is no further division by product line like you mentioned).
- I had a look through all (I think) Unovan locations yesterday (some of which have an "In the TCG" section, which includes cards where it's just seen in the background) and I think there are 100+ cards in total (for just Unova). However, I placed bookmarks in my browser and am eager to add categories to the card images myself. I was just wondering if I was allowed to do so. By the way, there are locations with just one or a few cards, but there are also some with 10+ cards in the list (the Plasma Frigate, for instance). Would you say there should be an extra category for the latter case which would then go into a "Cards featuring locations" category where the others without a specific location category also go?
- (by the way, I also asked someone else about this specifically a few hours ago, let's wait to see what he thinks about it)
- Yes, that'd be nice of you if you could create the categories for the merchandise!
- By the way, what is your specialist subject if I may ask?
- Hey, no worries.
- I'll make a keychain category for that image, and add other categories which contain images of keychains to it too.
- Yeah, I think just "Category:Keychains" would suffice; if there are a significant amount of danglers/charms etc. specifically uploaded in the future, those images could then be put in another (sub)category as needed.
- Category:Kitchenware is a good idea. There is a snack dish to go with the salt shaker, so I'll bend convention slightly and create the category for the two images!
- On the TCG side of things, "Category:Cards featuring locations" sounds plausible as you have described, with less commonly featured locations being put directly inside this, and more commonly featured locations having their own subcategory. If you are up for the considerable task of categorising the TCG cards in this way then I don't see a reason not to.
- Yes, I saw your earlier message to our Editor-in-Chief/Head of TCG(!). Let's wait for his views on the matter.
- I'll create Category:Keychains and Category:Kitchenware now, but are there any other merchandise categories that you are ready to add files to that you'd like me to create?
- Personally, I wouldn't say I have a specialist subject, but if I had to pick an area which I enjoy the most it would be the animated series and character art (basically what I upload the most). My work on the site is mostly Archives focused right now. Thanks for asking!

- Right, I guess it was you who reviewed my message to him.
- I'm not sure yet how many/which goods I want to upload, since I'm mainly interested in figures and other 3D things. But I'll let you know if/when I do get to that part!
- Oh, alright. Well, mine is Items and Locations that have been featured on merchandise/cards, as you can tell, lol. ...oh and I'm on the lookout for everything in the Pokémon series that has been influenced by the Japanese culture!
- Done. Thanks for letting me know!
Moving
Hello, could you please rename one picture. I accidentally forgot to change one letter before uploading. Modesty Elyon (talk) 16:41, 22 March 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, I don't seem to be able to move the file to
File:Pokémon Movie Companion.pngright now because, for one reason or another, it says the (blank) page already exists and so would require deleting that blank page first before it can be moved. I'll look into it! --Thespeon196 (talk) 17:00, 22 March 2025 (UTC)- I accidentally created this when I was trying to classify a new file. If you can delete black to rename a needed picture, that would be good. Modesty Elyon (talk) 17:13, 22 March 2025 (UTC)
New Subway Bosses Image
The official Pokemon Tumblr shared this high-res image of the Subway Bosses. I downloaded it and added transparent background, but I would need permission to overwrite the original file File:Subway Bosses.png. I was about to upload it under a separate name so you or another admin could easily compare and contrast, but from reading the FAQ I think it might be better to just ask you outright if I can overwrite the image.
I'm also not a professional at GIMP, and I cleaned up the edges as best as I could, but I totally understand if another user would rather take on the job. Also I don't know if there's much of a difference between the file currently on Bulbapedia and the one the Pokemon Tumblr account shared.
Thanks in advance! --NylaTheWolf (talk) 21:05, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, welcome to the Archives! First of all, thank you very much for asking.
Feel free to upload it, and we can compare the one you have to the current one! We could even start a talk page discussion about it if that's what's needed. I'm not sure if the current image we have is from a cut-out (it's unsourced!), so it may well be that they're both cut-outs from an image with a background. - I've just had a look at Pokémon Tumblr source, and the biggest version of the image I could find is 1800x1523px. Is this the size of image that you obtained too? Thespeon196 (talk) 21:24, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
- Just to clarify, feel free to upload your image so that it overwrites the current image! Thespeon196 (talk) 21:47, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
- 1800x1523 was the size of the image I downloaded, but I cropped it to fit the content of the image and remove unnecessary whitespace, like the current image does.
- Thank you for the permission! NylaTheWolf (talk) 02:36, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
- You're welcome. You've done a great job with it. I'll just add the Tumblr link to the file so that users know where the source of the cut-out came from. Thank you for your contribution to the site, and hope you can make more in the future! Thespeon196 (talk) 12:16, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you so much! I'm super excited about having my image accepted! NylaTheWolf (talk) 19:00, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
- Just to clarify, feel free to upload your image so that it overwrites the current image! Thespeon196 (talk) 21:47, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
Changing Set Age on Bulbagarden
Hello! When initially creating my Bulbagarden account, I lied about my age. I'd like to have it changed to my actual age, and the section for it said, "please contact an administrator if it is incorrect." This is my Bulbagarden account: https://bulbagarden.net/members/girlpower.146418/
Thank you in advance!

RE: Adding template to animated series uploads
Sure thing. But I can't seem to add it on Bulbapedia's page itself, only on the Archives page. If I do, will it automatically edit on the main Bulbapedia page? HygorBH (talk) 23:41, 18 May 2025 (UTC)
- Good question. Adding templates to files like this should be done on the Archives. If you add it to the page on the Archives, it will update it on the Bulbapedia view of the file (after a while!). Thanks! Thespeon196 (talk) 23:46, 18 May 2025 (UTC)

Renaming a file
Hi there, you're the admin with the newest change so I'm bothering you :P
File:GO Delightful Days background.png needs to be renamed to File:GO 9th Anniversary background.png. @HeroponSuperT2 incorrectly assumed this was the Delightful Days background, but the Delightful Days background was just now pushed to the game and it's entirely different. Uploading personal images
Hi! I see that on the upload guidelines it states that I shouldn't upload a personal image. Is a personal image a picture that contains sensitive (personal) information or is it just an image that is of negligible value to Bulbapedia (i.e., a fan character). I'm wondering because if I create a user page for myself, I'm considering having an artwork I drew on it. Thanks in advance. Yoroidori (talk) 02:52, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks for checking. Basically, all images uploaded to the Archives should be needed and used on Bulbapedia, and so must have encyclopedic value. A personal image doesn't have this encyclopedic value, so they're not allowed on the site. This includes all fan art, made by yourself or by anyone else, and also includes images uploaded for use on a userpage.
- I'm glad you asked before uploading it, because we take a zero-tolerance approach to personal images, and any such image will be deleted on sight. Thespeon196 (talk) 10:41, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- Oh, gotcha. Thanks for letting me know. Yoroidori (talk) 14:13, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
reducing size to 1920px
Hello. Can you explain why you reduced the original size of the key frames to 1920px? Even the illustrations are always uploaded in the original size, this has always been acceptable for several years. Modesty Elyon (talk) 22:50, 8 September 2025 (UTC)
- Key frames are nice, but are not the most important images. We're trying to be stricter in the exceptions which we grant to images being allowed more than the 1920px general limit. The images are sourced, so the original sizes can always be viewed if required. Thespeon196 (talk) 23:00, 8 September 2025 (UTC)
- I don't quite understand what you mean by they are not that important and why they are reduced. If this applies to these pictures, does it mean that all images should be subject to such a limit including key visuals for seasons, illustrations, etc.? Modesty Elyon (talk) 23:03, 8 September 2025 (UTC)
- The general maximum image size on the Archives is 1920x1920. Images larger than this are very much an exception to this rule, such as for Sugimori artwork and key visuals for series, most often from the press site. As is stated on the Upload form, staff permission should still be sought for these images, and for other images, assessed on a case-by-case basis. The key frames are not important enough to be an exception to this, so I've reduced their size. Bear in mind that 1920px is still a large image, very much larger than is displayed on Bulbapedia, which is point of uploading here. Thespeon196 (talk) 23:29, 8 September 2025 (UTC)
- Well, what is not an exception then? There are many pictures in the archive, and the words "such as" do not help much. It can be very troublesome to ask for each of them, so there should be some common association for them so as not to confuse. For example, I do not understand why key frames were loaded for several years as illustrations but now suddenly became "not important." What is this based on?
- After all, each user can see any large picture and start reducing them. Modesty Elyon (talk) 23:39, 8 September 2025 (UTC)
- Some key frames were uploaded larger than they should have been without permission, and they do not need to be so large, so I've reduced them. There are no solid rules about what's important enough, and when permission is sought staff will judge whether an exception is appropriate. I've mentioned the press site, images from there are usually ok, but if not, and it hasn't been approved by staff, it will be reduced in size or marked with
{{oversized}}. To be clear, this isn't new policy but is current policy that's being enforced more strictly. Thespeon196 (talk) 23:58, 8 September 2025 (UTC)
