Welcome
Welcome to the Bulbagarden Archives, CycloneGU! | |
By creating your account you are now able to upload images to help Bulbapedia and Bulbanews. Before you jump in, take a look at these helpful tips:
| |
Thank you, and have a good time uploading here! |
Route 10 (Unova)
Hello, it has come to my attention an image you recently uploaded, which was found at File:B2W2 Rt10.png (which has now been moved to File:Unova Route 10 B2W2 closed.png due to reasons I will explain later). I must inform you of several mistakes you have made and therefore expect a better understanding once you upload a second time.
- First, comes the linking. As you can see, this is Bulbagarden Archives, it's a separate entity from Bulbapedia and as such, using the standard linking method won't work here, as it'll link non existant articles here. For these cases, you'll have to use the
{{bp}}
template. - Second, the summary. You did well by creating that summary, but it was overloaded with information. You don't need to describe it in detail, a brief (but relevant) piece of information works just as fine.
- Third, the file quality. We aim for high quality and native resolution when getting screenshots, this means that screenshots must not be zoomed in or blown up.
- Fourth, you need to categorize your files when you're showing a character, so the image will be featured in said category.
These are crucial steps to become a great editor in this community, of course, reading the Manual of style always helps. If you have any questions, you can ask me or any other Staff member. We're always available for help. Thank you. Masatoshitalk 02:57, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
Pokémon Shuffle areas
Would it be possible for you to upload an image of the Touch Screen in each of the areas, along with the Special Stages and the Expert Stages? --Abcboy (talk) 11:02, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
- Just to clarify, do you mean a picture of each of the stage layouts at the beginning of the stage? There might be complications with that:
- I have to burn Hearts to get them all, so it will take me a long time at five Hearts per run and limit my ability to play and complete events.
- I'm not sure if we can take the screenshots without posting them all to Miiverse, and posting 190+19 (and eventually Mewtwo and Genesect) stage layouts to Miiverse is not ideal, though I'll test the screenshot function. Without the screenshot function, Expert stages are completely out unless I hold off updating the one system.
- I can definitely grab the Daily stages as they go by, and perhaps Shaymin (and eventually Victini and Meowth's Coin Mania), but old special stages are out unless they get remakes (like the Rotom squad did). CycloneGU (talk) 12:44, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
- This was just tested when I went into the Drilbur stage. I cannot take screenshots from within the game. So if I'm going to do this, I'd literally have to get every Expert stage prior to updating the main system, and I'm not at the Genesect level yet (I have Mewtwo, but not beaten). CycloneGU (talk) 12:58, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
- Those would also be ideal, but I was actually referring to the level selection screen. Those images would be useful if/when we split off the area locations. --Abcboy (talk) 19:34, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
- I can work on those; I wondered if you meant that, in fact. I also realized I can go to Youtube videos (yeah, it's not ideal, but we have no choice for special stages) to get stage layouts, as well. For area layouts, we can only get five stages in a line at a time, so would we be looking to have all ten/fifteen/thirty/infinity available in different shots? ("infinity" means any other number, not an infinite number.) CycloneGU (talk) 23:14, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
- The first five stages should be fine. The images are really only for illustrating the area articles if/when those get split out. The top screen might also be useful, if you can get that. --Abcboy (talk) 01:57, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
- Since that would involve two separate screens, and the bottom area already shows the theme to an extent - and it would look weird on Miiverse for me to repeatedly post the top screen of the area select - I would either have to get very creative with my posts or just post the lower screens. I can be creative, but it has its limits, and I don't think even I can be creative for 13 different area screens in addition to the map screens. Man, I wish we could take screenshots the conventional way here... CycloneGU (talk) 03:39, 28 May 2015 (UTC)

(resetting indent)Have you gotten these yet? These would be nice to have if/when the area pages get split out. --Abcboy (talk) 05:47, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
- I was thinking I'll start looking into these tomorrow. I have to literally post them on my Miiverse. I might be able to post one when I first attempt stages in the latest group of 10, then I'll just reply to it with each area before then deleting that post. That first post, BTW, won't be a screen for the area; it'll be the actual post, and the later one at the start of the latest area (181-185) will cover the area screen. Shuffle sprites
Weren't the face icons used in Shuffle actually first used in Battle Trozei? If that's the case wouldn't "BTrozeiXXX" be a better filename for them, especially since Shuffle doesn't have all 719 (up to Diancie) Pokémon? - Chosen of Mana 11:39, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
- I actually already wondered about that. Abcboy already notified me they are different. So therefore, two sets of files would be needed for the games, hence why these are just "Shuffle###"; I had originally planned to use "MTT" as a tempalate name, but am going to do some other abbreviation for Shuffle; maybe ShImg or something since the filename built in will have "Shuffle" on it, and that will be in the template. CycloneGU (talk) 14:33, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
- The Shuffle sprites you're uploading really should be 128x128; the raw sprites from the RAR file on User talk:SciresM are of that size. --Abcboy (talk) 19:18, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
- Are they really? I might be able to try editing them down to that via that paint.net; I think transparency is maintained from the previous work. I have to rename a huge batch of them anyway, so I might be able to do that at the same time. Initially, I figured it out as every sprite was 130x130 in a file of size 4,032 x 3,512; dropping off 2 from each figure was divisible by 130 evenly on both sides, so I thought that was the size. Hopefully I can find a quick and easy shortcut to cropping.
- Either way, there's a batch there if anything is to be tested using them now. So they work in the short term for that purpose. CycloneGU (talk) 19:41, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
- I've already renamed SciresM's files to the Bulbapedia standard and am currently optimizing their filesize. It shouldn't take too much longer for that to finish. --Abcboy (talk) 19:44, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
- I found the crop shortcut (Ctrl-SHIFT-X) but don't see a fast way to select from 1,1 to 129,129 (to then crop to 128x128, sO I have to do that part manually. This will take a little more time. LOL CycloneGU (talk) 19:49, 13 June 2015 (UTC) But I will upload the Bulbasaur-Mega Blastoise group again when I have them all. CycloneGU (talk) 19:49, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
- I have lots of different programs I use for different things. I use paint.net for general editing, Microsoft Office Picture Manager for mass-image cropping, TileMage Image Splitter for splitting up tiled images, and PNGGauntlet for reducing image filesize. Right now, I'm using PNGGauntlet to compress all 830 of SciresM's 128x128 Shuffle sprites, and when I'm finished, I'll upload a ZIP file of them to Dropbox for you to upload to the Archives. Okay? --Abcboy (talk) 19:56, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
- One question. Microsoft Office Picture Manager. Never heard of it. I COULD USE THIS. LOL
- I find that paint.net also optimizes filesize, so I could run them all through that while I am renaming them to chop off a few bytes. Is PNGGGauntlet better for that? I could ZIP all these up and send them over to you. We should probably create a Battle Trozei template too; I'll look at the one Kogoro created yesterday and see if I can create a similar one based on that here (which can then be locked LOL). I'll finish through 009 now and I can ZIP up everything including those if you want to mass-crop them to save some time, but note only from 010 onwards need the cropping; they can all get whatever other enhancements you might want to give them. If you know a mass-renaming tool to get rid of the hyphen in filenames, that would save me time as well. LOL CycloneGU (talk) 20:01, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

Oh, wait...I have Picture Manager. How does mass-cropping work? CycloneGU (talk) 20:05, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
- Cropped and renamed them all. Here. --Abcboy (talk) 20:14, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
- All transparent too? Making my last two days look wasted. LOL CycloneGU (talk) 20:19, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
- Yup. --Abcboy (talk) 20:21, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
- Fixed the names to have "Mega" in full as other forms and such can use M as an abbreviation, and it keeps forms and evolutions distinct. If short form is still preferred, I can always do that; I just think it's better to note them as such in the filename.
- Cherrim comes out in Overcast Form and changes to Sunshine Form, so I made Overcast the default even though Shuffle looks like the other way around (we don't know if the sprite will go unused). I'm surprised that we use "G" for Sandy and "S" for Trash, however, on the Burmy and Wormadam groups; I had S for Sandy and T for Trash, similar to the "Rotom convention" in naming (using "R" for Frost Rotom, for instance, because it's a "R"efrigerator). National list shows G and S, however, so I'll match the convention.
- Everything else matches what I had to a T. CycloneGU (talk) 20:44, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
- I see Kogoro did move the other uploads, so I guess that answers the "M" vs. "Mega" thing. M it is. LOL CycloneGU (talk) 20:51, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
- and now looks like it's dinnertime here, so I'll start uploading right after that. I'll see if I can get 'em all after that in one go, but for the time being fixed Shuffle000.png for the new size. Changing the template at BP as well for 64px before I take off briefly. =) CycloneGU (talk) 20:56, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

Battle Trozei sprites
When you upload them, you can type
==Summary== {{BT|<Pokédex number>|{{subst:Num2N|<Pokédex number>}}}} ==Licensing== {{i-Fairuse-sprite-game}}
The code subst:Num2N
will turn the Pokédex number into the Pokémon's name upon saving it. --Abcboy (talk) 02:12, 26 June 2015 (UTC)
- Just tried that. Cool. Thanks! I usually don't mind typing it out, since a number typo can cause a complete name error anyway (and I have forgotten to change numbers before), so I guess either method works. CycloneGU (talk) 02:16, 26 June 2015 (UTC)
Your offer
I would love to take you up on your offer to learn how to edit this this part of the Wiki. Just tell me what I need to do. Thank you! Rahl (talk) 00:57, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
- I want you to notice what I've been uploading lately; I still have some 600 or so of these images to put up. What I'll do is intentionally leave the wrong licensing (just slightly) on some of them. This will give you a chance to correct it and at the same time see how the categorization of images is done when saving each one. One I was going to have you interact with would have been putting in the template call yourself, thus adding Pokémon categories, but I figured a blank summary would be bad (Pokémon categories must accompany anything they appear in, which this template actually does for this group).
- The files to look at (I said it's the Johto starter group) will be BT152.png to BT160.png once uploaded. You can find them via the upload log, which can be seen via Recent Changes under Tools. I'll start with other ones, so reply ASAP to let me know if you're around and I'll start uploading them when I see the reply. What you will do is change {{i-Fairuse-game}} to read {{i-Fairuse-sprite-game}}. Look at the license line and also the category section before and after the first few to see how it changes the page. Licensing is a very important step for any images uploaded (I've uploaded at Wikipedia too, it's super strict), and you will actually select the license yourself when uploading, but if you know the code - like the sprite one being used here, for instance - you don't even have to select it, instead just including it in the summary box, which converts it correctly during the upload.
- I do not know the exact requirements for edits to upload images yourself (even if I did, I couldn't tell you), but editing these may be enough. If you still can't upload after that, I'll set up another group for you. Just look at BT152-BT160, just to clarify; they will be intentionally left incorrect. CycloneGU (talk) 03:59, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
- There will also be a comment tag on them. You can delete the comment tag when making the change. It will refer back to here. CycloneGU (talk) 04:11, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
- Uh... Yeah, let's not intentionally do things wrong. Kay? - Kogoro - Talk to me - 08:57, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
I appreciate how you tried to help me but it seems someone else already fixed them because it wasn't a good way to help me learn. I do understand what you said though and hope it helps me if I ever find an actual error. Is there anything else that I could do to start editing? Rahl (talk) 12:24, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
- Just trying to help him learn how to edit over on this side, Kogoro. Pattyman actually intentionally left things for me to fix on a few to help me get to the point where I could upload, so I followed the same idea.
- Other than looking up other images and fixing other mistakes or adding missing categories, Rahl, I have no idea. Maybe you can ask Pattyman for assistance? You can also upload the images somewhere for me or anyone else to upload, then you can edit the description and such as you intend. CycloneGU (talk) 13:46, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
How would I upload the image for you to upload? I've never tried that before. Rahl (talk) 13:56, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
Alright I just set up a dropbox. Do you want me to post the link to the image here or something else? Rahl (talk) 14:25, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
- Yeah, you can do that. I'm getting ready to head out for a while, but Kogoro, Pattyman, or anyone can help with uploading images. I'll ask Pattyman to keep an eye over here, too. CycloneGU (talk) 15:22, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

Quick reminder
Don't forget to add categories when uploading files, thanks~ ht14 13:52, 13 November 2015 (UTC)
- There's no easy way to do it from the upload page. Also, notice I asked Pattyman to check for me that I even gave it the proper license, since I wasn't sure it was the right one. CycloneGU (talk) 17:01, 13 November 2015 (UTC)
Gen VI OD's
Wow man, it's awesome you can make the overworld models from Sun and Moon, so later to finish that, can you make the Gen VI ones? --HoopsterJohn (talk) 16:38, 17 January 2017 (UTC)
- I simply assisted with uploading and tagging them as appropriate; I did not make any of them. If you want to make a request for sprites, Lady Ariel was who asked for my assistance; you can contact her. I'll make her aware of your request, as well, in case she knows something about the status of them already. CycloneGU (talk) 17:22, 17 January 2017 (UTC)
- I am planning on working on the overworld models from Generation VI eventually. However, they seem to be very different than the ones from Sun and Moon. In Sun and Moon they were in a default T-Pose, but their files also included their animations which allowed me to get them out of the T-Pose. However, from what I have found from XYORAS so far is that the models are in a default T-Pose, but their animations aren't included with the models. So that means I have to figure out where the animations are or how they changed their pose. Lady Ariel (talk) 17:38, 17 January 2017 (UTC)
Missing ODs
I must say, I too am extremely impressed by your S&M OD uploads. However, when I went through all the ODs you (and Lady Ariel) had uploaded, I saw that Gladion and the Black Belt class are still missing their ODs (as far as I'm aware, those two are the last remaining ones). Do you not just possess those ODs yet, or is there some other reason why you haven't uploaded them yet? --FinnishPokéFan92 (talk) 17:15, 19 January 2017 (UTC)
- I just asked Lady Ariel about this. If it's something we don't have ATM, she can reply to note what is going on or if there are other known missing ones. CycloneGU (talk) 17:30, 19 January 2017 (UTC)
- Not sure how those files were missed, but I do have them and will upload them shortly. Lady Ariel (talk) 19:51, 19 January 2017 (UTC)
New Shuffle Icons
I guess it's better to move the discussion here? Thank you for responding. Regarding the sprites, the female Wobbuffet has been released this week, and Meloetta's Pirouette Forme is due for release next week. The released Pikachu sprites have already been added. However, I'm wondering if the archives allow for uploading part of the unreleased sprites as well - especially the Gen VII Pokemons. That was done in the past so that the sprites are ready to be used on the Shuffle list. The other variants (original designs for Shuffle) can't really be uploaded yet because we don't know what the game will name them. So is it possible for Pokemon #722-#802, the Alolan variants, and alternate formes from main games (Deoxys, Castform, Meloetta, and female Wobbuffet) to be added if the current rules still allow for it? Those are based on main game Pokemon designs, so it's a definite that they'll be released. It would be better to add them now than do it as they release. The Shiny variants, Pikachu variants, and the Zygarde formes (these formes weren't actual Pokemon in the Sun/Moon) can be put on hold. Those aren't as certain to be released after all. Thank for you taking your time to do this though! Sucoleo (talk) 08:52, 30 March 2017 (UTC)
- I definitely agree that I think the Pokémon sprites themselves should be added for the ones from 722-802; after all, there's no way of knowing when a certain one will become a special stage or when they might get added as a group to main stages (yeah, right). However, some invoke questions while others now need some thought.
- In the latter group are Hippopotas and Meloetta. I know that Meloetta's Pirouette Forme is what is used here, and I have no issue with preparing it for possible use as they kinda need something for special stages again. Hippopotas...are they adding a separate female sprite? In the former category, you bring up the Pikachu variants; how many of the 16 numbered variants and 6 lettered variants are in there now? The Mega formes in general are all already there, again suspecting that the rest would become full stages I think we agreed due to fluidity of the game to update weekly that it was best to just keep them readily available; the only question to their inclusion is whether there are certain things changed? Also, what is pokemon_icon.png? I see both Zygardes in there and am curious if those will appear, as well.
- The most important thing, if we do add them, is that the images have to be numbered to match our existing onesl; see for instance the below image, which has its Archives home at http://archives.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:Shuffle152.png (coincidentally, I uploaded it in 2015):
- To find any Pokémon, take the file link above and change the number to any number (up to 721) to find every one of the 721 Pokémon and add letters for some variants in the same style as our other sprites (like Keldeo having a 647R form in Shuffle, and Meowstic's 678F which is numbered differently from the other in game). All future files have to be named using their numbers before being used. I can go through and look at this.
- With that said, I want to confirm 100% your source. Did you rip these from the game yourself directly, or are they posted on someone else's site? I personally have no objection with uploading them, again due to the update fluidity this game likely will have, but at the same time know we don't want to upload something we either need to obtain permission to use first (in which case it might still be added later once we contact that site) or to upload something that we are not certain is going to be used (I'm looking at the Shiny forms here, and if one ever does get used, then we'll prep the whole lot of them). CycloneGU (talk) 17:23, 30 March 2017 (UTC)
- Yes, they are adding a female sprite for Hippopotas and Hippowdon. Of the numbered Pikachu variants, only four of them (#4-7) have been introduced in the game. It appears that a user has already added those four sprites into the Archives. None of the lettered variants and Ash Pikachu are in yet. I do not know why certain Mega sprites are included. I compared them to older sprites, but there doesn't seem to be any differences. pokemon_icon.png is Crabrawler. I don't think these are the original names of the sprites, and it's likely the original uploader renamed them for identification purposes. Those Zygarde formes are still a mysterious for now.
- I am not the original uploader of these files. These sprites were publicly shared by this person - who obtained it on a Discord channel. I do not know who ripped the files. It's best to contact that redditor or the person who uploaded the files ([email protected]). Sucoleo (talk) 11:52, 31 March 2017 (UTC)
- I heard from GlowingTail this morning before leaving for a while. We have the permission to use them - in fact, ANYONE does, apparently. So I'll be getting to work on naming files appropriately for upload from my copy of the ZIP, though the four already up I will talk to someone about to decide whether those filename formats will apply for the others or whether we change them. Thanks for bringing the ZIP to our attention! CycloneGU (talk) 00:49, 1 April 2017 (UTC)

I just noticed that there is a mobile rip of the sprites, and I saw your response to it as well. Do you think we could replace the old files with the mobile ones? The 3DS sprites seem to have size discrepancies. Take male and female Wobbuffets for example. The more recent sprite (female) is larger than the older one (male) despite both being 128x128. Vivillion sprites also have a weird size difference as well. However, the size remains consistent in the mobile ones. Using the mobile ones adds consistency to the presentation of these sprites. It's jarring when alternate formes of certain Pokemons differ in size despite it not being the case in-game. It seems that I'm capable of uploading now, so perhaps I can assist you in replacing those files with the higher quality ones. My other contributions aren't that stellar, and I think I used the bad image tag wrongly. So I think I'll refrain from helping in areas where I'm not familiar with. Replacing images with higher quality ones (provided they are available) is a simple task for me though! I'll await your response before taking any actions. Sucoleo (talk) 18:38, 6 April 2017 (UTC)
