Bulbagarden Archives logo.png
Welcome to the Bulbagarden Archives, Masatoshi!

As a new user, you may wish to learn a few things that will be useful in your uploading:

The Manual of Style, or MoS, outlines the format and guidelines of all images on Bulbagarden Archives.

All of our administrators are here to help! Talk to them if you have any questions or problems with the Archives.

Tagging images with correct licenses and categories is a must. These guidelines will help you learn more about tagging images.

  • Please read the checklist when you upload media files. The checklist is there to make sure you are doing everything necessary when uploading said media files.
  • Be sure to tag and categorize all images. This helps organize the vast amount of images we have here.
  • Check if your image already exists by searching through categories, and Bulbapedia pages. This action will help prevent unnecessary duplicates from appearing.
  • When adding a licensing tag to anime or game screenshots, please avoid just choosing "Screenshot". This is not descriptive and places the images in the wrong category. Make sure to choose "Screenshot from a Pokémon game," or "Screenshot from the Pokémon anime." This will put them in the right categories, and help keep the Archives clean.
  • Does your image have a purpose? Will you be using it on a Bulbagarden Project? Avoid uploading images because you think they are "Cute" or "Awesome". That clutters the Archives.
  • Personal images are limited to two for each User. Personal images include personal logos, personal trainer sprites, drawings, trainer cards and mostly any image that would only be used in the User: namespace and have no encyclopedic value to Bulbagarden and its affiliates. Please tag these with the {{i-Personal}} template for easier organization. Under no circumstance should a photograph of one's self ever be uploaded onto Bulbagarden Archives.
  • In addition, please upload images with meaningful names. Names that are just numbers, for example, do not describe anything about the image, and can make it difficult for searchers. Names are just as important as licenses and categories, so make them descriptive. Please be sure that the filenames contain alphanumeric characters only.
  • Due to the many automated templates used on the wiki, lowercase extensions are imperative. That means jpg and png instead of JPG and PNG. It looks cleaner, it works better, and it does not cause any problems. Make sure to always use lowercase extensions.
  • If you're confused about the requirements for uploading files, have a look at this guide.
Thank you, and have a good time uploading here!

Regarding Pokémon Daisuki Club CD

Just thought I would like to let you know. ht14 14:29, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

Oh, alright, well, I had asked CoolPikachu about that and he told me that. Thanks for clearing it out. Masatoshitalk 14:31, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

How do you upload so fast!?—★Pika3323 20:57, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

Thanks to this. Masatoshitalk 20:58, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
Ah, man there has to be a plug-in for google chrome to upload to this place. Then speed would sky rocket. =(—★Pika3323 21:04, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
I'm actually okay with it, I like doing it one by one, checking any visible differences from the RS sprites, better to be a steady tortoise than a speedy (and possibly messy) hare. :P Masatoshitalk 21:06, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, one by one. Once I'm done with the sprites I delete them to prevent in the folder I store them in (which is by the way called "footprint" leftover from my footprint uploading days.) from clutter. To bad Heart gold back sprites only be unique. That would also speed things up. Back to Gloom (the pokemon...)!—★Pika3323 21:19, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
I worry about deletion after I did all of them. Hey, at least HG's sprites aren't different from SS's. :P Masatoshitalk 21:50, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
Oh phew! I thought I was alone here! Welcoming neglected users (who contributed) but enough of that! Back to the sprites!—★Pika3323 21:20, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

One thing I forgot to tell you, make sure the first frame of the animation is set at 0ms (set it to skip this first frame) and actually has a shot of the move in action so that people without APNG support can at least see the move, instead of just a normal looking screen. Jellotalk 17:09, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

Dark Pulse

Dark Pulse IV.png How does this look? --Coolピカチュウ! 07:36, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
Well, you forgot to click on "Skip first frame", and it seems to be a tad fast again. Also, remember, if you're going to animate the blinking Pokémon, do it at around 100ms. Masatoshitalk 15:52, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

Your hard work has paid off. Welcome aboard the staff as a Junior Administrator. If you have any questions, bug the staff. --P S Yライダー 21:05, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

Yay, thank you. Masatoshitalk 21:06, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

No what?

What did you mean by no for the image? Pattyman 03:16, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

Can you upload a newer image of Metal Claw as it is a bit blurry? Pattyman 00:53, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

All in due time. I'm doing them alphabetically, it will take some time, but it'll be there. Masatoshitalk 01:13, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
Well, keep up the good work then. Pattyman 01:34, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

I tried to upload animated version of SelfDestruct but... damn, upload does nothing... It says "waiting for" or what the hell it said... After page finishes "loading", I am still on upload page...this equals to wasting time. Also, there is way to decrease file size? 97 frame animation's size is 2,45 MB... Marked +-+-+ 11:44, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

What are you using? And you can't upload it because it's over 2MB, if you want, I can upload it for you, but I'd like you to tell me what you exactly use. I get 97 frames in around 1 MB. Masatoshitalk 14:54, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
What you mean by "What are you using?" - If you mean how I upload...well I just upload directly by upload media button... It looks that file is just too big, because I uploaded Bite in third generation with 40 frames (yeah, suprisingly short) and about 1MB, and in first* generation, with 39 frames and 352 KB (Generation I has less complex graphics and in effect animation has smaller size), both uploaded without bigger problems. Marked +-+-+ 15:15, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
No. I mean, how do you make your anipngs? And yes, that's what I had in mind with using moves that changed its type, such as Gust, good to know you got it. Masatoshitalk 15:17, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
Uh wait, did not YOU said to me how to do make animated png? If not you, then who?(AnimGet for making screenshots of move->Photoshop for converting into .png->JapngEditor to make animaton)...Okey, I need to go, but I should be back in less than hour.Marked +-+-+ 15:24, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

I don't know HOW, but I got 19 (NINETEEN[!]) frames on Tackle in Generation I, with ONLY 3(!!!) being animation, the other 16 is "yyy used xxx!" What the hell? Marked +-+-+ 19:09, 8 April 2011 (UTC) PS.Shortness of some moves is reallly suprising... Wait... TWO. TWO frames of move (that removed is the very begginning of blinking after being hit)... o_O- unsigned comment from Marked +-+-+ (talkcontribs)

Yes, I was the one, I'm trying to check if you follow the same procedure I have done, it seems that you do, you don't have to worry about the file size, however, if some of them exceeds the 2 MB limit, give it to me so I can upload it instead. Also, for steadiness, I'd ask you to rather follow a move list in alphabetic order, pick a generation and start from Absorb 'till last move, please. That way, it's easier for us to track which ones aren't moving or the ones that need an animation, you should check the moves list in Bulbapedia for an accurate listing, click to toggle the Generation one, and do that one and the previous ones (if that's the case).
And don't be surprised for the frames, remember that Generation I was pretty simple on moves + everything white + shitty graphics, especially with Tackle and Leer, by far the most basic moves. Also, please, sign EVERY new comment you do (even the P.S. ones), that way I know when you replied. D: Masatoshitalk 21:28, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
Also, yeah, the preview button is your friend, try not to edit that much in a short amount of time, that's what the preview button is for. :V Masatoshitalk 21:33, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

How I can "give" them to you? Marked +-+-+ 07:52, 9 April 2011 (UTC) PS.Thunderbolt has unusual split, it's splitted for Japanese one (watch out, it's like the EP038 accident, if not worse) and "our" version. Unfortuantely I do not have any Japanese version :P Marked +-+-+ 07:55, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

Remember to indent your comments, please. D:
Also, give them to me through here, and once I come back I can upload them. Yeah, it's kinda hard to find a <removed>, but you need to intensify your search. And I saw the video, I think you can upload that, I don't think we'll get a seizure unless we stare at it for ages. :P Masatoshitalk 15:23, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

1)"Give" them to you by...imageshack or something of it kind? 2)Getting<removed> is easy part. Understanding that all stuff there in Japanese and getting Thunderbolt is harder part. 3)What you do to upload files bigger than 2MB? :P 4)You mentioned once that one move took you 300 frames. What the heck it was? Marked +-+-+ 18:51, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

Guys, please don't discuss you know what here. We can get into serious trouble. Also, administrators are able to upload beyond the 2MB limit that's why he's asking you give him the animation once it's done. Jellotalk 19:29, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
Marked, again, please, indent your comments. Actually, through imgur is good, or even tinypic. Well, since I'm a (Junior) Administrator, I can bypass that, so if you can give it to me, I'll upload it for you. And I honestly don't remember which one it was, I've gotten a lot of files with >300 frames lately, thanks to Black and White.
Jello, you got it. No more discussions about that. Now, if you excuse me, I'll beat it. Will be back in a few hours. Masatoshitalk 20:55, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
Sorry for that but... until I read dictionary, I (almost) had no idea what indent means D: Marked +-+-+ 21:04, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

Counter (Generation I)

I can't find Pokémon with which it would work. I tried with Pidgey's Quick Attack, but every time it's says that it (Counter) missed. Any ideas on what Pokémon I should try using it? Note that in Generation I it works only with Normal-type or Fightning-type moves. I skipped it, to do rest of moves. (I also skipped: Bide, because I don't have that TM and Clamp, because of version-exclusive Pokémon) Marked +-+-+ 18:41, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

It's up to you, honestly. Masatoshitalk 21:06, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

What settings should I use when I create an animation with Japng? At the moment I just set the display time to 16 ms and leave everything else blank. Frugali 03:43, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

Well, depends on the power of the computer and the FPS set. In DPPt I use 33ms/F, in BW I use 40~44ms/F. Masatoshitalk 03:54, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

Server malfunction?

I checked Drill Peck. One time it says that there is no such file, one time it is... In Drill Peck article when I used "Show preview", picture was, but now I see just "File:Drill Peck I.png" in red... About 1-2 minute(s) ago I saw it on Bulbapedia, now it says "No file by this name exists."... Marked +-+-+ 12:31, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

Did you upload the image? It is best to do so before putting it on Bulbapedia. Pattyman 12:46, 13 April 2011 (UTC)
I uploaded file yesterday, while I edited article today Marked +-+-+ 15:11, 13 April 2011 (UTC)
If you were able to go through the upload form and were directed to the file again, then it got uploaded, however, due to server sync related issues, you might have to reload the page in order to see it, or at least purging it by clicking on the clock right at the left of your nick, which is on the top left corner of your screen. Anyways, the file can be seen, although it can only be seen with underscores currently, so I'll take a wild guess and say it's because of sync problems (has happened before, will happen again). But yeah, if you upload it, go through the upload form, it's been uploaded and can be seen anywhere (if we expect the person who uploaded it to not change the link first on Bulbapedia). Masatoshitalk 17:17, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

TM 52

I made the file smaller and re-uploaded it. Mantine 23:38, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

It's animation in Generation I is very fast... I will have to skip it, at least for now... Still Counter is biggest problem, as for now, I have how it works in this generation I... PS.Is there is a list of ALL moves that ARE in Generation III (NOT introduced, a list of moves in total), sorted alphabetically? That would help with Generation III. Marked +-+-+ 10:44, 12 May 2011 (UTC)

You could sort them through Generations and start from the first one that is in III and keep on it until you finish Generations II and I. Also, if the animation is too fast, then slow it down. Masatoshitalk 05:07, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
Slow down? I don't think if I even will be able to record it without skips... Okey 2nd try and got... 89 88 frames... Wtf? 89 88 frames (and that's ONLY move, with text [mentioned later] it's more)? That's a LOT for this generation. Now I will have to "fix" text (All STATUS changes are eliminated) with Paint (copy and paste method), since game for no reason speeded up there (and ONLY there)... Marked +-+-+ 08:20, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
Decided to made text appear instantly, since just animation is a whopping 1,81MB. Marked +-+-+ 08:34, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
When I say "slow down", I'm talking about the frames, add some FPS until you deem the animation accurate. Also, here's a tip; from now on, after getting the animated png, use this optimizer, it will greatly reduce the amount of space it takes for one to animate these files, have you seen I'm normally getting less than one MB now? I used to have animations between 2~4 MB. That's thanks to that optimizer. Masatoshitalk 13:40, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
Okey.(response after like 3 weeks? Kinda late). As you say, that optimizer is useful - it cut about 600KB from Night Shade (from 2,40MB to 1,81MB) Marked +-+-+ 16:37, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

Wait a moment. What the hell? That just broke animation. Marked +-+-+ 16:45, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

When you optimize an animation it does that. That particular program doesn't display it properly, but the animation still works nonetheless. Jellotalk 22:38, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
Yes, it's because the program tries to get rid of any useless frame/part of image and thus makes it lighter. You will see a lot of "glitched" animations, but any browser will show it properly. Masatoshitalk 22:43, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

Regarding ArtChampions.png

I uploaded ArtChampions.png (the character artwork of the main series League Champions) for use on the Pokémon Champion page, which previously contained sprites but no character artwork. If that seems unnecessary by Bulbapedia's standards (and indeed said revision was undone minutes after its completion), then by all means remove the picture. ...and I see someone already has. Lovely how that works. Alderryeguy 18:52, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

Japanese Thunderbolt.

Just uploaded. About 148 frames (~1,5MB before and 742KB after optimizing)... Japanese Yellow uses new animation (that toned down and shorter), not sure which one is used in Japanese Blue (Note:Probably old, due to Japanese Blue [{not so} obviously] being released before Red and Blue). Does Mv template is capable of saying "Red and Green"? Also, SonicBoom in Japanese Gold differs from the in international Silver or Crystal. (I have no idea if it still in Japanese Crystal. check Trivia section of SonicBoom). Marked +-+-+ 13:27, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

PS.Nevermind, SnorlaxMonster already modified template to include "RBY", "RGB" combination and SonicBoom case. Marked +-+-+ 15:29, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

Finally... done...

Somehow Counter worked... Lovely Kiss was the last one... (At least) 2 months... Now goes animation in Gen III. Few are already done (Bite, Metal Claw, Selfdestruct and Explosion)... Marked +-+-+ 21:17, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

I noticed that the Metal Claw one was a bit blurry. Pattyman 00:54, 27 June 2011 (UTC)

Well Amnesia got 2.5MB after optimizing, but that's nothing compared to Blizzard - 329 (330 with "skip first frame" stuff) frames (giving about 11,5MB... obviously before optimizing) And that's enough frames to get Exception in JapngEditor. x_x Marked +-+-+ 16:48, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

I honestly don't get why you get that filesize. Will see how to fix that later. Masatoshitalk 16:57, 17 July 2011 (UTC)
That's because, unlike in other generations, Amnesia has moving background. As I saw, in Gen IV and Gen V, background is just plain black, while in Gen II and Gen I well... they're enough old to not have background... Gen III looks like this. Marked +-+-+ 17:10, 17 July 2011 (UTC)
Ah, I see. Try optimizing an optimized file? If nothing can happen, then give me the file and I'll upload it for you. Masatoshitalk 17:31, 17 July 2011 (UTC)
Optimizing file that's already optimized does not work. I could sent file if I knew your e-mail or site to upload file (NOT Rapidshare or Rapidshare-like site. And fails with animated files). 08:30, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
Try imgur, I think I could upload them there with no problems at all. Masatoshitalk 01:47, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
"Image failed to upload" stuff. >_< Confuse Ray - 294 frames (technically less but it includes the "it's confused" animation)... EXCEPTION AGAIN... (I guess it stops working at about 300 frames...) I'll guess now I will record HMs in overworld (and moves like Flash or Sweet Scent in overworld) before continuing on in-battle animation. In the first games you had to manually use HM (or TM if it works outside of battle) through Party... Marked +-+-+ 09:34, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
Upload them to Mediafire, then. I'll download them and then upload them later. If you're going to do the overworld ones, try to do them like this: [Move] [Generation number] OW.png, example: Cut I OW.png. I'll be in charge of the BW ones, but it will take me some time. Masatoshitalk 14:12, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
Already done Cut and Flash. Replaced the .gif with .png. Now going with Fly... Hope that it won't get exception like Blizzard or Confuse Ray. And Amnesia's here. Firefox reads it correctly. Marked +-+-+ 14:38, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

Fusion attacks

They need two animations both... one with normal attack and second after powered-up by Fusion Flare/Fusion Bolt

Powered-up Fusion Flare has some SERIOUS zoom-out. Marked +-+-+ 10:45, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

Don't worry, I'll get to that soon. Masatoshitalk 12:00, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

Animated PNG help?

I was wondering of you know how to upload animated PNG images? I've asked Pattyman, and he said you or Marked would maybe know about this sort of thing. I've tried uploading one in both Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox, and it doesnt seem to work in either browser. It just keeps returning me to the Upload Media page, but it doesnt display any error message. Vuvuzela2010 21:41, 9 August 2011 (UTC)

It's probably bigger than the limit for uploading. Upload it to imgur and link it here, I want to see it. Masatoshitalk 06:48, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
It wont let me upload it on that site, because its larger than 2MB, so yeah, thats whats happened. Its basically a png version of this file. Vuvuzela2010 22:34, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
Then create a Dropbox account, store your file in the Dropbox folder within your computer, paste the public URL for it in here. Also, have you used APNG Optimizer? That'll reduce the filesize as much as possible. Masatoshitalk 19:47, 11 August 2011 (UTC)
Here it is: [1] (there are also two other variations [2] [3]). Oh, and I optimised them like you said. These are the first animated images I've mad, so please tell me if there's something wrong with them, so I won't make the same mistake again :S . Vuvuzela2010 00:17, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
Error 403. Did you go to your Dropbox folder in the site, clicked in the dropdown box at the right side of the filename and clicked on "Copy URL"? Can't see your file. Masatoshitalk 01:29, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
They wernt in the public folder at first, but they should work now. [4] [5] [6] Vuvuzela2010 02:05, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
Okay, thanks. I'm gonna upload them after in the day. They will retain the filenames you've put. Masatoshitalk 23:22, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
Shazam, wham and kablam! They're quite heavy, though. Good luck with them when thumbnailed, gonna have to ask people to click on it to see its full effects. The 56k dial-up users will have a rough time, though... Masatoshitalk 01:30, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
Thanks! Yeah I noticed that they dont animate, is that normal for animated PNGs? Or is it because of the size (MB, or that actual size of the image)? Vuvuzela2010 02:17, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
You're welcome, if you need my help, I'll be there. They don't animate unless you're in a browser that supports it (Firefox, for instance), AND they won't animate if they are thumbnailed. See the moves I'm animating? They move because the infobox doesn't thumbnail it. Masatoshitalk 07:21, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
I would suggest resizing them so that the width is 150px so that it doesn't get resized by the anime move box, because if an APNG is resized by MediaWiki it loses its animation. It would also decrease the file size. --SnorlaxMonster 09:11, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
I've resized it to 150 width by 120 height (the size is much better, now only 338KB), but its still not animating in the move box? Do both need to be 150 (it would make it look a bit square though)? Oh, and I'm using Firefox. Vuvuzela2010 15:48, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
Resetting indentation 1st animation (Castform changing to normal) is working for me fine (ofk using Firefox). I don't know what problems you have. Marked +-+-+ 11:09, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
It works now, it was probably because it had just been uploaded. Vuvuzela2010 23:33, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

By the way of animated PNG files, have you got any idea for the exception (click here) I counted that 5 animations got exception (Blizzard, Confuse Ray, Fly Dream Eater and recently, Fire Spin). Marked +-+-+ 10:48, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

Try not thumbnailing the file, if you're using "thumb", it's small so there's no need of having it thumbnailed. And regarding Marked: it means that the file is too large and it exceeds the memory the application is granted. You'll have to edit it with APNG Anime Maker. It does not support first frame skip, though, you'll have to use APNG Anime Maker first, set it up, save it, optimize it, and then use one of the untouched frames (from the folder the files are in) as the first frame. Skip and save. Was it clear enough? Masatoshitalk 22:31, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
1)Either Bulba has problems, or my PC is enough old to start having problems.2)What the hell is with these rollbacks?3)It took me some time until I got that I have to:a)Add all frames to APNG Anime Maker.b)Optimize it via option IN Anime Maker (I used that apng optimizer first time).c)Add first frame (though I should do this as first step ._.)d)Save it.e)Skip first frame via Japng.f)...g)PROFIT! (lol) Anyway... Firefox displays it almost correctly. Almost. Compare it (I used old and newer save)... Wtf is with that grey background? It should be white. Marked +-+-+ 10:18, 18 August 2011 (UTC)
Ugh. Checked two animations... Confuse Ray - the ducks (I animated from move to "xxx is Confused" part :p) leave a "trail" that makes that part more transparent (or brighter... it just looked more "whiter", idk if it's even a word)... Fly in Overworld - Well... looks fairly right. When optimizing, I have these options: Tolerance - 10; Lossy (ON); Selected Image Only (OFF); Selected Region Only (ON); Loop - 0; Compression Level - 6 Marked +-+-+ 14:11, 18 August 2011 (UTC)
Bulba's having issues lately. Yeah, when you're using Anime APNG Maker, things will go a bit slower, especially when you're not used to it. Maybe you changed some settings in the Anime APNG Maker? I'd advise you not to touch a thing if you did. Masatoshitalk 21:51, 18 August 2011 (UTC)
I was thinking if you could upload those two Seed Flare images* that are on my talk page (they are in links) since I wasn't able to upload them. Pattyman 23:31, 18 August 2011 (UTC)
I don't know if I changed something or not. :/ These stuff isn't heavily affecting animations anyway (unlike that black stuff when viewing through japng after optimizing). Also, when I became Junior Administrator? Seriously I had no idea about that until I checked active users. Marked +-+-+ 07:45, 19 August 2011 (UTC)
Congratulations! Psychic Rider did a staff renewal and chose you as a Junior Administrator amongst some other people. Well, if you didn't change much, there's not an issue to fix, at least for now. Masatoshitalk 23:36, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

How do I handle this situation?

I don't know who to ask specifically about this, but I'd like to upload some replacement pictures, specifically animated png versions of Psystrike and Pay Day. It says I need to be an autoconfirmed user to upload over existing images though, and since I doubt I'd be hitting that anytime soon (I really don't update much, just when I spot something off, though I'm thinking of making more animated move pictures), how should I upload my stuff so that it ends up with the right filename while getting rid of the old picture? -- Trainer Hunter 17:35, 6 September 2011 (UTC)

Well, you can either try and do some minor stuff in files, you can find some mistakes here and there, or you could upload it while letting us know first, or you could give it to me so I can upload it instead. Masatoshitalk 01:20, 7 September 2011 (UTC)
Still sounds pretty lame. Eh. Well, at least there's still a bunch of stuff I CAN upload, now that I checked. I hope you don't mind being a relay for these few things then. Or in case I get stuff over the 2 MB limit. (Gravity's not a replacement but it exceeds 2 MB)
Think you can upload these? - Trainer Hunter 02:53, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

Files "missing".

For most files in this category it says File missing. What the hell happened in these ~18 hours? Marked +-+-+ 14:48, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

I see no issues there... Masatoshitalk 06:33, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
Meh, you're late. Problem went away. Marked +-+-+ 13:14, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

Adding to the over-2MB list

Any chance you can add these two to the previous four uploads I linked?

And thanks. - Trainer Hunter 04:01, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

Werd and I have uploaded them all, there you go. Masatoshitalk 06:33, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
Welp, got five more things I can't upload. (I'm surprised at how small it optimized considering it's over 1000 frames. Probably because of lack of fancy background or something.) (Derived from the memento animation since I used a move as demonstration. I saw how Destiny Bond just cut to the fainting, but I figured it'd look awkward for grudge due to how the PP loss text comes before the grudge test. This is also the only replacement PNG)
I hope you don't mind this pestering to keep going, because I'm trying to get a bunch of moves done every day to keep up the pace. - Trainer Hunter 09:29, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
Sorry for giving you a load of work, but could you upload these animated images? Cheers.

God, Pokémon Colloseum and XD weighs a lot more than games of main series due to being of different console. And I can't pass the 2MB limit. Yet. x_X Marked +-+-+ 12:45, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
If you had a capture card or something for the TV that would probably work. Anyhow, yet another replace-able image, which makes six from my end. Trainer Hunter 00:28, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
Guys, we can't talk about that. There is one, though, you'll have to have a powerful computer for it to properly run. Also, I will upload them during the night. Also, Trainer Hunter, your files are too fast. Gonna have to slow 'em down, to around 35~45 ms per frame, check Memento for example. Look how fast that goes, you can barely read what it says. Also, the file needs the final frame to be of at least a second long, to be able to tell better when the animation ends. Masatoshitalk 03:07, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
New petition, Hunter, could you not press anything when the text shows up? Let the text flow through, and let the game run its course, so people will read what it says without making them rush before it disappears. Masatoshitalk 09:26, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
Er... well, this is a pickle. I'm recording them at the same speed the game plays, and I don't press a thing (So the text autocancels by itself). The only difference I guess is that I set the ingame text to fast. Since I thought people would want to see the move in action or something. And I haven't had a problem reading the text. So... I guess I'll wait to see what you have to say then. I won't be looking forward to remaking 100+ animated PNGs, though. I've been at this the past few days while I had no internet and it kinda sucks to see that they're all obsolete. Are there some animation guidelines on the site anywhere so I can check? - unsigned comment from Trainer Hunter (talkcontribs)
Sorry about the sudden new comment, but I just realized a few things. Like how I can just set up examples to help things along. Do you like mid speed or slow speed? I'm probably not gonna set up the text speed like that for the move announcement since, you know. People know the move by the time they see the image. And as far as I've seen every other image doesn't scroll the text on the move announcement. But I'll change up the text speed for any image I've made that involves text that pops up after the move (like for status moves). I'm NOT changing the animation speed though. 16ms is the exact same speed the game plays, and I've done side-by-side comparisons between the PNGs I've made and my own game. I'd like to keep the animation speed the same as the game for accurate re-enactment. Also I don't like that second-length pause. It's kinda long and disorienting. Though I guess to some that sudden shift would be disorienting. Still, I personally think the shift is a pretty good transition myself (Especially since the game usually has some frames or even a second of cooldown before the damage flash) but eh, you're the mod, not me. Anyhow, I've given my examples and said my thoughts so now I'd like to see what you say before I change or don't change any of the masses of images I've got here. - Trainer Hunter 22:31, 15 September 2011 (UTC)
Well, some will need to be remade, but I can back you up on those. Regarding the animation guidelines, there isn't one written, but:
  • Frame speed should range between 30~40 ms, in doubt, just ask and show proof.
  • Last frame should have a pause of 1000ms.
  • Text speed should be normal.
  • The text is automatic, even if you don't press any button, the text will go through after a certain amount of time, so let it flow.
  • Same goes for the animation for the stats either going up or down.
  • Every file shall have a first frame for browsers that do not support animated png.
  • With certain exceptions, the last frame should be the first one that shows the foe's information after the Pokémon attack.
  • Moves that attack consecutively, for example.
  • Animations with attacks that hit several turns later should not include the foe's move unless the move used by the Pokémon gets benefits from it (i.e.: Bide).
All I can think of at the moment. Also. I have that speed because that's what people with the game and the console had advised me, I've shown them countless images, and they say the speed I did is good enough, so that's why I'm suggesting it. Although a person I'm asking about this says it's fine, but PsychicRider tells me that yours are too fast (he has both games and a console), and that they should be slowed down. Plus he agrees that it's better to have it slower so people can read whatever the text is. Masatoshitalk 23:48, 15 September 2011 (UTC)
Hm, well, I guess if that's what the higher-ups say, I can't go against it. Anyhow I whipped up a quick speed test right here, what do you think? This is at 30ms. And again, the text letter entry stating the move is only there so I can demonstrate the text speed. By the way, what do you mean by "the foe's information after the pokémon attack"? The health bar? Or something else? - Trainer Hunter 00:40, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
Resetting Hm... and now it's a bit slow. It depends, then, try with 25ms, and what are your frame settings? - And yeah, that's the text scrolling speed I like. And yes, the health bar. Masatoshitalk 01:38, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
Frame settings? I don't know what you mean by that. And I admit I didn't see the life bar freeze on any image before today so eh, I guess I'll just have to replace everything I uploaded too. Anyhow, here's some 20ms and 25ms examples. Once I have a speed confirmation I can get started on re-recording all hundred-something images I've made. Tomorrow. Because I'm kinda tired today. - Trainer Hunter 02:03, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
Oh, one more thing since this seems wrapped up after the speed is decided. I know this is kinda unrelated (But I don't want to start a new topic line while we're still in discussion here), but I don't want to forget to ask about this by the time I do this. How would I handle putting the multiple variations of 5th gen Weather Ball onto the Weather Ball page? I'm thinking of recording them soon but I want to know how to deal with the actual page technicalities. - Trainer Hunter 02:19, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
25ms version looks fair enough. You don't need to do them all at once, take your time. Upload every instance of Weather Ball as a separate file, it's like what I did with Curse, although this one might be a bit trickier, we'll decide what to do by then. Masatoshitalk 02:50, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
Yeah I saw what you did with Curse, but with more than two variations, yeah it'd be a jumble. Anyhow, making these PNGs doesn't take me a lot of time at all, and I have a lot of time to kill, so I'll just pace around 10-20 of them a day if I can (more if I'm feeling like making a bunch), so this is no trouble. Thanks for all the input, I'll be getting back to this soon. And when I have the Weather Ball variations up I guess I'll point them out to you and you can figure out how to handle them. - unsigned comment from Trainer Hunter (talkcontribs)

More to do.

Movegen infobox was updated for 3D games (Battle Revolution, Colloseum, XD, Stadium, Stadium 2). Also, stuff like Weather Ball (including ???-type, which is done for XD) or Curse... Gonna add Fury Swipes, Fury Attack and Fly, then switch to directly by alphabet, not by generation then by alphabet (say thanks to this), and that means I will start with Aerial Ace after switching (since this is first move available in Gen III games and not done yet in these games). I have Air Cutter already done, I don't remember even when I did it. Now how many moves differ between Hoenn and Kanto games? Marked +-+-+ 18:57, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

Yet more 2MB stuff

Figured now would be a good time for a new subject. I've got five moves today that are over the limit:
Draco Meteor
Healing Wish (I really hope it doesn't get any bigger than this, but I wouldn't be surprised.)
Lunar Dance
Magma Storm
Psycho Boost
My plans are essentially to re-record everything I've got then record the rest of the moves that don't have Gen 5 pictures. After that I'll be doing replacements in bulk (Seems I can do that now!) and after that... I guess I could work on Gen 4 recordings? But that's gonna be a while. Especially since there's just above/below 200 moves with no gen 5 images. - unsigned comment from Trainer Hunter (talkcontribs)

Healing_Wish.png‎ (256 × 192 pixels, file size: 3.21 MB, MIME type: image/png, looped, 1579 frames, 40s) - HOW YOU DID THAT? 1579 frames? SERIOUSLY? Marked +-+-+ 18:51, 20 September 2011 (UTC)
He probably used Anime PNG Maker, I needed that for +1000 frames. Masatoshitalk 20:51, 20 September 2011 (UTC)
I screwed Blizzard with Anime PNG Maker (background was gray-like instead of white, and when ice shard moved through the gray background, it changed to white... wtf?) . Meh, why not give them to you (they're pretty heavy, about 70MB in total)? I fail at using that program. Marked +-+-+ 17:08, 21 September 2011 (UTC)
Basically I make an animated png in APNG Anime Maker, open it in Gimp (version 2.7.3 with an APNG plug-in) and re-save it (This time while forcing it to skip the first frame), and then I optimize it with the APNG Optimizer. If I had a way to skip the first frame and set the speed fast without crashing when there's more than 460-ish frames I'd use that but I have no idea where to find such. At least I have something that works. Anyhow, got another file that's too big for me to upload:
Heart Swap
Would have uploaded stuff earlier but I think I was burnt out after realizing I had to redo over 100 images all over again. And I'm busy with some stuff on the side so we'll see how uploading goes. - Trainer Hunter 07:42, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
How the hell you managed to make Imageshack play anipng? It does not work for me (when I uploaded Aromatherapy, it was stuck on first frame). ._. Marked +-+-+ 15:34, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
Since I answered that over there, back to over the limit!
Heal Order
Spacial Rend
Volt Tackle
That should do it for today. More over the limit than I hoped. - Trainer Hunter 06:31, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
Got GIMP 2.6.11, no idea how the hell you are supossed to get 2.7.3, and can't find APNG plug-in for my version. Marked +-+-+ 20:09, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
And with that question answered, some more stuff.
Fire Blast
Mirror Coat
Rage Powder
Water Spout
And with that, my backlog of images has been worked through! Next I'll be readjusting the speed of my first uploads, then I'll get to working on the rest of the moves that have no 5th gen images, so you won't have to worry too much about those. Oh, and I got the Weather Ball variants up.
Weather Ball: Fire
Weather Ball: Water
Weather Ball: Ice
Weather Ball: Rock
I... honestly don't have any idea on how to set them up on the page. Perhaps cycle the Weather Ball variations like how it cycles Castform's form on the Castform page? Go ahead and bring it up to whoever would have an idea if you know who would, because I don't know if there's anyone specific in staff who'd know. And thanks again. - Trainer Hunter 08:33, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

Since these two files aren't so much related to these above (they are Gen III whilst the most all of above are from BW) I resetted the discussion (to not confuse generations). :p Marked +-+-+ 13:23, 27 September 2011 (UTC)

Just to leave this as a note, someone else uploaded all of my stuff. You don't have to worry about it whenever you get back. - Trainer Hunter 05:02, 11 October 2011 (UTC)
Oh, I'm so sorry, Marked! I'll upload them right away. And I know, Hunter. Since I'm back, you can give them to me again if you want to. Masatoshitalk 17:27, 29 October 2011 (UTC)

Alright, I will wait for a few hours, as I need to discuss how the filename for combined attacks will be in the end, and in the meanwhile, I'll have to ask you to re-do Explosion, since it's an attack that makes the Pokémon faint; those need to be animated until the Pokémon disappears after fainting. Masatoshitalk 23:44, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
Well the only reason I did that was because you didn't say anything about it the last time I gave you an Explosion png to upload but eh, sure. It's an easy fix anyhow, the way I have things set up.

Fixed every self-fainting damaging move I've uploaded, sorry for the trouble. Oh, as for the combined attack filename, I made my suggestions up there. Feel free to use/not use them as a suggestion or inspiration. -- Trainer Hunter -- 02:21, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
I am the one who should be sorry, as I knew I was forgetting something when I told you about the "guideline" on animated images, and it happened to be this. And we decided to use the following system: [Element] Pledge [Sea of Fire/Swamp/Rainbow].png. I'll upload them tomorrow, as I'm currently studying for a test I'm sure I'll fail. Shell Smash
Jeez, Shell Smash, why must you be so ridiculous? Anyhow, is there any rule of thumb regarding resetting these talk lists? Just so I don't squeeze the text too small to work with. And I admit I've never really had any reason to extend a talk page this long before. -- Trainer Hunter -- 12:07, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
Not really, other than resetting it to indentation level 2 when it's too high and to the right if the conversation is still relevant. Small trivia: The previous Heal Pulse was uploaded on November 6th, 2010; and yours was uploaded on November 6th, 2011. Anyways, done. Masatoshitalk 23:52, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
Hah, I was wondering if that happened anywhere.
Woo, once this is uploaded we'll have animations for all in-battle 5th gen moves (I'm pretty sure. I'll make an observation sweep later). This calls for a party. -- Trainer Hunter -- 23:40, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
Almost forgot. Any chance you can move Sand_Attack_II.png and Sand_Attack.png to respective "Sand-Attack" pages? -- Trainer Hunter -- 23:47, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
Sorry to triple-line here, but don't worry about Sand-Attack. I remembered there were article-moving templates and just tagged them on there and someone else moved them. -- Trainer Hunter -- 00:08, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
Okay, resetting indentation because it's getting too narrow, and yay, party. (Done, by the way) Masatoshitalk 07:26, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
Welp, party's over.
Quiver Dance
Seems I missed a grand total of six moves. Got them all up now. At least the final check went by fast since after the D moves I uploaded most of the images and remembered a fair bit of what I uploaded. I guess that just leaves Japanese Imprison, the remaining overworld moves, and speed readjustments before I get started on 4th gen. -- Trainer Hunter -- 17:43, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
Just wanted to test all this out before I go back to my slight break. Do you prefer the 20ms version or the 25ms version? Honestly I think the 25ms version's kinda sluggish but I'd like this brought up so I don't have to redo loads of images again. And for the record the text is on mid speed again. -- Trainer Hunter -- 03:55, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
Hrm... try making one that has a speed of 15ms. They don't finish convincing me. Masatoshitalk 05:08, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
As I mentioned before this is more or less 60 frames per second, so see if this works for you since it should be game-accurate speed. Probably should have thrown it in earlier but I recall hearing how slower was usually better or something. Once I've got this confirmed I'll upload the nine 4th gen moves I've recorded so far.
And by the way you didn't miss the Quiver Dance link, did you? Don't want to make you miss a link there just because of a subject change (Which I only did because I'm fiddling around with my settings so I can streamline the 4th gen png-making process). -- Trainer Hunter -- 08:52, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Whenever you upload the Quiver Dance link and check the 16ms image I linked, here's some more stuff. Whenever you're available, of course. -- Trainer Hunter -- 08:40, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
Well, I relayed them over to Jo. You seem pretty busy so I figure it'd be best not to trouble you too much about it, if it's been this long and all. -- Trainer Hunter -- 20:33, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
Sorry about that, I'm ending my school year with exams soon to follow, and I get busy sometimes, and by the time I finish studying, I just forget about the wikis. Good to see they've been posted, then. And the 16ms version looks perfect. Masatoshitalk 03:22, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

Images of the moves

Where did you get those high quality images of the animated moves from, the ones you made on your own? Pattyman 02:25, 22 September 2011 (UTC) A little addition, I already have the software to create animated pngs so I won't need to know that. Pattyman 02:30, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

Sprite Constraints

There is a guideline that says that Gen IV sprites should be in an 80x80 box. However, when trying to animate a Regigigas sprite (Diamond and Pearl) the recording shows it jumping around way out of these constraints. What to do?--Chalkwriter 19:46, 23 October 2011 (UTC)

Upload it anyways, we're thinking of ways on how to resolve this issue. Masatoshitalk 02:55, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

More APNG help

So, I uploaded several .apngs of moves from Gen III, and the problem is that I don't know how to change the first thumbnail to one for browsers that don't support .apng animations. The method I used was to record the animation on vba with Hypercam, create a .gif from the resulting video, then convert that to an .apng file. It works fine in Firefox, but Chrome shows only the first frame. Marked +-+-+ also talked about changing the speed of different actions in the animation (text speed, etc.), although I don't see why that is an issue. I think if I can at least get the thumbnail correct, it should be fine. Please help! --Jdthebud 05:33, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

Thanks to Photoshop and animget (this makes .bmp every 10ms, do not use it all full screen, but at normal, default size). Photostop converts it into .png via... I think it was called batching or something, I don't remember.... And then I make apng in Japng editor (or, in case of 220+ frames, APNG Anime Maker as japng editor runs out of memory in bigger animations). Frame 0 represents the still frame for browsers that don't support animated .pngs, and I click skip first frame to make it not appear in animation, yet be saw in thumbnail (like this. After making animation, I optimize it to make it fit in limit (though that failed for Blizzard and Dream Eater due to background). And the text... if text is too fast people won't be able to read it. I saw few times where text was too fast, and I couldn't read it. Masatoshi gave links for programs I need. Marked +-+-+ 12:31, 8 November 2011 (UTC)
Here's what I ended up doing. I loaded the apng I made already into JapngEditor (it loads frames from apng but not gif), then took a screenshot of the thumbnail for nonsupported browsers and inserted it at the top and skipped the first frame. Then I played around a bit with the frame speed (mostly first and last) where applicable (didn't fool around much with the actual move animation speed, as it was good already) and saved it. Checking it out, it showed the thumbnail in Chrome and the animation in Firefox. This won't work for the long animations that need APNG Anime Maker, as it won't load the inidividual frames from anpg or gif files, but I don't think any of the moves I uploaded (except maybe Rock Blast or something) will need me to use AnimGet and APNG Anime Maker. Thanks for your help, Marked +-+-+! --Jdthebud 23:34, 8 November 2011 (UTC)

gen IV move animations

So now I want to try and do some gen IV move animations. Should I use no$gba or Desmume? I just don't know which one gives the best representation of the DS animation for the Gen IV games. I've heard that no$gba doesn't render transparency at all, but Desmume seems to have it's own problems rendering animations, especially in Platinum. HG/SS seems to be fine, though. Which one should I use? --Jdthebud 19:19, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

I would use Desmume, because no$gba does have a problem in the fact that it doesn't transparentise at all (meaning there are loads of black patches; see this as an example). Desmume also runs at the speed of the computer, so the animation speed is always the same.--Chalkwriter 17:10, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
What Chalkwriter said, Desmume emulates the DS environment a lot better than NO$GBA. Platinum having problems? Are you sure? Whenever I animated for Platinum I saw no issues. Masatoshitalk 05:00, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
Okay, I think I know what the issue might have been. I was using the recording feature on Desmume, and that when I noticed that the screen would be overly bright, making moves like Dark Pulse be ethereal. When I checked again by playing normally, the animations seem to be fine, if only a bit different with transparency. I'll try and make sure with some more experimentation, then I'll get back to you if I find any issues. Thanks for your input. --Jdthebud 08:20, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Please explain

Why would you want to block someone who was following the rules to a T and fighting vandalism, and claim that a second offense for (not) edit warrig deserves quintuple the punishment from the first time, and give the other participant half the block quantity? I'm outraged by your unfair, completely bised actions and I have every right to be outraged and confront you on this matter--SandmanDP 21:41, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

Following the rules equals to avoid breaking them, the edit war is a violation of the rules. And you should have read my reply in your talk page on Bulbapedia, there's my reasons. Masatoshitalk 06:15, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

3DS complications

You do not understand... I was only blocked that first time for 3 DAYS. 3*2 does not equal 14. Darthrai jumped right ahead to put incorrect information 5 days after it was settled. I was doing what was right. Right now, this talkpage is my only way of contact. Please consider at least shortening my block--SandmanDP 05:38, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

Uh, what does the 3DS have to do with this? Also, you could have tried mailing me through the e-mail feature. We aren't talking about that edit war, we're talking about this one. You and Darthrai both reverted each other a total of seven times (that means, you reverting him, him reverting you, you reverting him and so on), giving you both a week, but since you already participated in another edit war with Satoshi before (and blocked because of that), the time is doubled due reincidence. I don't get what's so hard to understand. Masatoshitalk 06:15, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
The 3DS is what I was using to access this page... You said you blocked me based on the first edit war, so yes, the first one has everythig to do with this "Second block due to it." The first block was 3 days. You were supposed to double that. Not the week you gave Darthrai AFTER you blocked me. You are showing an extreme case of bias and I don't see why you should've blocked me in the first place. That means you're placing the blame on me when I specifically used the talkpage to prevent an edit war. Look man, tomorrow's my birthday, so I'd really like it if my birthday present here is that my block is lifted. Considering no staff member ever gave me a warning for any of my three blocks, and didn't tell me I did anything wrong until after I was blocked, that seems very much like an abuse of power. 3*2 does not equal 14--SandmanDP 12:13, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
Okay, this is getting really tiring, I've told you that the ban depends on how many edits both offending parties had in the edit war, in this case, seven. Since it's your second block due to edit warring, the time is double. 7*2 does equal 14. You participated in a war twice already (actually three times, but you had a perfectly good reason once and we didn't think you should get punished for reverting a guy who was replacing the redirect with a somewhat empty article). Jo blocked you in that opportunity, she was trying to make you two stop, because you were more than edit warring, you were actually in a quarrel, so she gave you and Satoshi a three day cooldown. Not even a full week. I'm going through the path of edit war (one day per reverted edit, I think I already mentioned it, and this is your second block because of it, I think I mentioned it too). You are showing an extreme case of denial and I don't see why I should lift your block (this is no longer in my hands since you already e-mailed a member of the Editorial Board, they'll get to it soon). Regarding the talk page, I told him he should have waited until a consensus was reached, something he understood, he will now try to be more careful regarding that. Your birthday is on January 31st? Could have sworn it was on August 10th. In any case, I still won't lift your block, that's up to the EB from now on. Regarding your claim that nobody warned you, if this isn't any sort of a warning, then I don't know what it is. Trust me, this isn't abusing our power, it's just endorsing the Bulbapedia policies, which is what Administrators are for. I am no longer replying to this in Archives, should you want to keep at it, use the e-mail feature, but if you try to appeal here again and not the aforementioned proper procedure, I'll have to ban your Archives account to expire at the same time than your Bulbapedia account, and all further blocks will be replicated across all Bulbawikis, I saw you undo Pattyman who was doing the right thing, and even Kogs, but that's another story. Masatoshitalk 15:55, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

That was not a warning by a staff member and not about anything I was actually blocked for. You are following your own policies, and YOU SAID the block was based on the previous one, not edits, in your block summary. 3 times 2 does not equal 14. You did not decide on the length of the block until after you blocked me by halving mine to give to Darthrai. YOU WERE WAY TOO HARSH. I was doing what any of you administrators would do IN THE EXACT SAME SITUATION. You are holding unnecessary double standards--SandmanDP 20:34, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

Anything to do on Archives? (even though I already have stuff to do on Bulbapedia, ie. moves' descriptions...) Could upload something from Pokémon Stadium (both), or Mystery Dungeon (also both, still have Red Rescue Team and Explorers of Sky, though it will be much easier on Rescue Team). The animation should be doable for Rescue Team, but not for other games, since the program screenshots more than I need (just the shiny star had to be done with the help of Paint and GIMP). Marked +-+-+ 20:27, 21 February 2012 (UTC)

Anything you feel you can upload that we need will be good enough. Masatoshitalk 20:36, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
Well okay but the problem is that I stopped uploading the animations, since due to resizing they got little blurry, like here... at least when compared to this (which wasn't uploaded by me) Marked +-+-+ 20:58, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
Resizing? It shouldn't be resizing... was it a .gif saved as .png then merged together with APNG Maker? Masatoshitalk 23:52, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
.Gif? What .gifs? I recorded them directly from the game, though the window was twice as big as it should be (480x320 instead of 240x160), so screenshots were also, and they got resized when batching in Photoshop, since it was set to save files in resolution 240x160. Marked +-+-+ 17:17, 22 February 2012 (UTC)
You recorded these with AnimGet? If not, you could use that. Masatoshitalk 20:05, 22 February 2012 (UTC)
Wait... didn't you told me about it? I used it, then either APNG maker or... anime-something if the former ran out of memory (about 270 frames and up). However, the screenshot size is equal to the window size, and the default size of it is 2 times as big as 240x160. Marked +-+-+ 16:40, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
Yes, I told you, but maybe you changed into something a bit more... useful? Hm, is the batch properly cropping the images? Not resizing anything at all? I'm sorry, but I'm just shooting in the dark because I haven't enough info on what your issue is. Masatoshitalk 01:59, 25 February 2012 (UTC)

Linking to the images

Is {{delete|#redirect [[File:filename.png]]}} known as linking to the images? Pattyman 03:56, 28 February 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, just use the route (filename.jpg), don't link it. Or you could just say it's a redirect. Masatoshitalk 04:50, 28 February 2012 (UTC)
I have two other questions (don't mean to raid on your talk page), what does it mean to replace the whole article? Also, is Mt. Moon different in Red and Blue, and Yellow as I found two images from their respective appendix pages? Pattyman 13:11, 28 February 2012 (UTC)
Instead of just slapping the {{delete}} tag, remove everything else first; if there's a redirect, remove it and place the tag. They'd be the same, just with a color difference, however, the colorful one had ugly tags that wouldn't let us keep it. Masatoshitalk 13:20, 28 February 2012 (UTC)
My talk page says to just add the tag instead of removing everything. Pattyman 13:41, 28 February 2012 (UTC)
Oh, okay, Nate says so. Then I'm sorry, yeah, just add the tag. Masatoshitalk 13:46, 28 February 2012 (UTC)

Template Location

A little problem if a location's name is different from the respective article's name: for example, for One Island I want to link to One Island (town) but to have visible text "One Island". Should another parameter be added to the template? Ruxax 19:32, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

Added support for it. Masatoshitalk 05:57, 1 March 2012 (UTC)

Two Things

Is the difference in color shading? I'm having trouble seeing the difference. :(

Is the editor thing at the bottom of editing page no longer going to be there now? G50 04:07, 16 June 2012 (UTC)

As animation of some moves changed between DPPt and HGSS, so that happened to BW and B2W2. Double-Edge, Freeze Shock, Ice Burn, Psychic, Superpower and Waterfall are uploaded (though Kyurem's signatures not by me), Flare Blitz in better quality will be uploaded when I will be able to. Absorb, Aerial Ace and Searing Shot also have new animations (thought wasn't sure about the second one until someone else confirmed it; before I was thinking it's an error or something). Oh god, moving files without creating redirect would make it much better (as I manually delete redirect and upload files. However, they were still seen as the old version on Bulbapedia for some time). Marked +-+-+ (talk) 19:21, 19 July 2012 (UTC) PS. Or at least actually delete these redirects via the delete button, not via blanking the page. :s

Sorry if I bloated the edit summary, but yeah, this is the first Wiki I've uploaded an image to that is actually hosted at a sister Wiki (obviously I've done others at Wikipedia that are hosted, well, at Wikipedia, not Commons). As for the image, I can truthfully say I didn't do anything to blow it up; that's the size I got the image at; also, doesn't high quality violate something in the fair use guidelines? I know from Wikipedia when uploading, for instance, an album cover (example of copyrighted material), high resolution is forbidden and would be deleted if uploaded. If it's actually blown up somehow as I added it, a reduced version can be made. In the spot I used it, it actually is under the 250 px resolution which I found on an image in another article.

I'll have to learn what this BP template is (I know that's a template hence the curly braces - again, longtime Wikipedian here), and categorizing...well, first image uploaded, and found it finally allowed me to upload after a month of lockdown, so I was happy just to get it up and didn't think about categories or how to do them (as again, it's something I've never had to worry about before); perhaps guidance on that might help. =) Nonetheless, I don't foresee myself uploading a large number of images, and for all I know this could be my only one as I tend to look more at text editing, so it may not be an issue in the end.

And yes, this is not Wikipedia, I know...I'm just referencing past experience. CycloneGU (talk) 03:51, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

Oh, and I get the name change, it explains the image better. No need to explain; I was trying to keep the filenames simple but if the description can somewhat go in the name, that works too. CycloneGU (talk) 03:56, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
Our guidelines are different to Wikipedia's. We want the best quality possible. Remember we are not Bulbapedia in this specific site, it's a sister wiki and as such should be linked properly, either as [[bp:Opelucid City]] or {{bp|Opelucid City}}. The resolution subject at Bulbapedia is probably because it's a thumbnail and it appears fine that way, but when we click it, it doesn't look really good. The {{bp}} template allows us to link to an article in Bulbapedia, it's just like using the external link to a sister wiki. Category:Images will help you on where to add your file to, take a good look at it and you'll understand, we're not that complicated :P. By the way, yeah, from now on, if you upload any further images, try to not cut back on the name, see if there's a pattern for the image you're uploading and name it as it should be like. Masatoshitalk 19:06, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
As I'm not in possession of White 2, I don't have the ability to get a good-quality image; it would take me forever to get to that image, too.
I found a video (Black 2 though) where a guy walks right through the fence (cheats obviously) and shows the fence on the other side, plows through THAT and into the forest. The music even changes (different theme) as if Route 10 was originally there without a gatehouse, but no Route 10 marker comes up. I think Route 10 might have been included initially, but perhaps the theme belongs to the default border trees themselves, not what would have been Route 10. Too bad they didn't find a way to reopen part of it after beating the E4 (in other words, script the construction barriers and blocking fence away); it would have been a great way to hide a super item or TM.
I'll keep that in mind on the filename in the future, and if someone is playing in Opelucid maybe I can get a save state of it or something to capture the higher-quuality image quickly. At worst, I'm sure a better version can be added on top by someone who wants to improve it. For reference, what dimensions should a screenshot be? I figured this was good because the thumb in the article is smaller. CycloneGU (talk) 23:17, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
The same size you see in your DS screen, that's the preferred version, unless it's a full map. Masatoshitalk 01:19, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

Oh. dear. Arceus. Emerald front sprites are just. Some of sprites are badly ripped (Shiny Scyther, Masquerain, Gastly, Totodile... and well Lugia animations actually need to be "recorded" from an actual battle as on status it gets cut by few pixels). They also seem too fast for me. Marked +-+-+ (talk) 13:51, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

File:Thunderbolt Japanese I.png

We may need put some kind of... warning (I kinda did that on Bulbapedia already). After all, the original was capable of epileptic seizures. I have no idea how to do that, though. Marked +-+-+ (talk) 17:14, 18 March 2013 (UTC) PS. I mean warning that would actually make it safe (like the warning pops up and file wouldn't open until you click "yes" or something along these lines). Marked +-+-+ (talk) 17:15, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

Ash XY

Just wondered why the Unsatisfactory template was readded to the Ash XY.png file? The file I uploaded is clean and transparent.. not sure what "Jpg artifacts" there still is? Not trying to be rude just generally curious haha --S2daam (talk) 17:18, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

It's just that I still see some artifacts, nothing to get worried about anyways, since we'll get a better quality image as the series premiere draws near. Masatoshitalk 07:43, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

Castform and Cherrim minisprites

There's problem. HGSS added static minisprites of their forms. BW the animated ones. The problem's, BW changed Cherrim's Sunshine minisprite (the one we currently have is HGSS's one, though planning to upload the BW one, reupload HGSS one at different name and put it into the article, since it is technically used in the HGSS Pokédex)... Plus they all exist since HGSS (animated ones since G5; Cherrim has that trolly thing with two static minis, first used in HGSS, second for G5 {{.}}_{{.}}), so you can't say "This is the menusprite of #351 Castform from the Generation III, IV, and V Pokémon games." on Rainy Form's sprite, since it's not truth; and yes I checked Platinum, and seeing only the "female/male" for them. (On other hand, Spiky-eared Pichu seems to use regular minisprite) Marked +-+-+ (talk) 11:44, 26 July 2013 (UTC)

Noted. I told Kogoro about it and she will set an override parameter so it requires to note the generation, it would be the third parameter ({{{3}}}). Masatoshitalk 15:48, 26 July 2013 (UTC)
Third parameter ended up being taken, so it's actually the fourth. Example of the override parameter in use can be seen on the template's talk page. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 16:11, 26 July 2013 (UTC)

.gif to .png

I have a question. Do all .gif need to be replaced with an animated .png? Also, if that is the case, would you tag those files with the gif template? Adamws (talk) 22:02, 25 September 2013 (UTC)

Only animated .gif files. Scans, sprites, screenshots, icons and diagrams should be in .png alone; photographs and cards should be in .jpg. The template used for tagging .gif to .png is {{Gif}} indeed. Masatoshitalk 22:32, 25 September 2013 (UTC)

ok, thanks. Adamws (talk) 22:38, 25 September 2013 (UTC)

Okay, look. Sylveon's right paw is colored the same way as its skin is an error, Randy's hair on his forehead is briefly colored the same way as his skin is an error, Sylveon's tail is missing is an error, and the background appears over Serena's ponytail is an error. Force Fire told me and they can be added. Go to Force Fire's Trivia's Policy and you'll see I'm not lying. Pikachu65 (talk) 21:28, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
Alright. First of all, sorry for taking so long to reply. Now, I checked through every picture you uploaded, and I concede that all of them are legit errors. However, I checked these pictures with Kogoro just to make sure about whether including all of them or not. The ones that got deleted were not important enough, and she alongside Werdnae decided the following:
  • No more than five error images per episode should be uploaded, unless an exemption is made by the Bulbapedia Editorial Board.
  • In the case of there being more than five images, the most significant and certain errors will be kept.
    • Any other errors can be noted in the episode errors section, but without an image.
  • Summaries need to be easy to read. Some of the summaries given might not convey the intended meaning.
Please note that this isn't a crusade against your efforts. This is being made so that users can hone their skills as great contributors. Masatoshi talk 22:05, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
I don't care about! I'm doing my best here, that's why. There's no need to do like that, I hate that. The errors I have uploaded are the erors, not the non-errors. Xerneas' MS

I was considering switching Xerneas' Active Mode menusprite to File:716MS.png, since its Active Mode seems to be the "default" form featured in most of its artwork, and the only form it takes in battle. The other file would be moved to "File:716NMS.png" - Chosen of Mana 14:51, 30 January 2014 (UTC)

Did you ask Kogoro about this change? Masatoshi talk 04:00, 31 January 2014 (UTC)
While Xernas is in Active Mode while in battle, it reverts to inactive when outside of battle. Battle-only forms do not take precedence over everything else. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 05:09, 31 January 2014 (UTC)

Question about Return Gen III move animation

Not sure if you are the best person to ask, but I was wondering what the policy should be in recording the Gen III Return move animation. Since different levels of friendship result in different move animations, should I record all of them and put them in one file, or just one? I believe Frustration has this same effect, although the one that is there now just has one animation playing. - unsigned comment from Jdthebud (talkcontribs)

Whoops, sorry about the non-signing there. Also, I am attempting to upload this image for the Dive Gen III animation. It is over 2 MB so I am trying to link to it, but the Upload form just reloads when I try to upload it. Image link --Jdthebud (talk) 22:20, 22 February 2014 (UTC)
Well, I could be wrong, but I think that just showing one animation (highest friendship level) will be enough for now. If we do end up needing more, we'll use those. Regarding the animated file, did you optimize it? That could trim its size if it hasn't yet. Otherwise, you could cut a few frames when May is underwater. If the issue remains after trying these suggestions, then I'll upload it for you. Masatoshi talk 00:45, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
I was able to get the Dive III OW file size under 2 MB after a re-record, and will use the max friendship animation. Thanks. --Jdthebud (talk) 08:58, 23 February 2014 (UTC)

Sprite gifs to png?

Do we want current animated sprites that are in gif form (Crystal, Emerald, Pinball, Trozei) to be anipng, or does it matter since the quality is the same regardless? Reason I'm asking is because I am going to make the Pinball animated sprites transparent, and they are currently in gif form. Also, none of them are tagged as needing to be transformed to anipng. --Jdthebud (talk) 00:42, 24 February 2014 (UTC)

It's still a pending decision, so I wouldn't really know yet. But I'd think that we'd want that. I'd ask Kogoro whether it's going to be a future project or not, though. Masatoshi talk 02:10, 13 March 2014 (UTC)

Uploading move animations that are over 2MB

Hi there, I have been completing the new B2W2 move animations, and have several that are over 2MB in size. Does the Source URL tool work in the Upload menu, or do I have to give it to someone else here to upload? Jdthebud (talk) 19:58, 12 March 2014 (UTC)

Only the staff can upload images through the Source URL option. Did you optimize them? Sometimes that'll help trim the file a lot, like it happened to me before. If you did, then you'll have to ask us for us to upload the files. Masatoshi talk 02:10, 13 March 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, I use Apng Assembler, which optimizes it automatically, and running it through the optimizer actually increases the size sometimes lol. So no way to reduce the file sizes, especially for the moves with more arty graphics like Nightmare and Sacred Fire, and long moves like V-Create. I may also try to get a better quality version of some moves I already uploaded that will be bigger since I took frames out of them to make it smaller. Here are ones I have right now. Again, these are for B2W2 move animations.
Volt Tackle
Psycho Boost
Sacred Fire
Ice Burn
Inferno - I actually uploaded one earlier that uses 30 fps, this one is 60 fps. It's up to you whether you want to replace the one I uploaded.
Thanks! Jdthebud (talk) 04:31, 13 March 2014 (UTC)
Uploaded all of them except for the final one. Masatoshi talk 03:43, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
Here are two more for you, and that should be it for B2W2 move animations. I will come back if I have any large Gen IV ones, but since Gen IV games run at 30 fps, they should be far and few between.
Bolt Strike - I looked at this move again, and it needed to be 60 fps as there is supposed to be flashing at the beginning of the animation. The current one uses 30 fps so it doesn't have that. Unfortunately, the 60 fps file is over 2 MB. Jdthebud (talk) 09:19, 17 March 2014 (UTC)
Done. Masatoshi talk 23:29, 17 March 2014 (UTC)

Garchomp Mega Evolving image (large file size)

I uploaded a sample of Garchomp Mega Evolving, with the animation running at 5 fps. That was the best frame rate I could get and come under the Archives size limit, but it's kind of choppy. I'd like to offer some alternatives at higher frame rates and larger file sizes, so that maybe you (or someone) could upload a better quality file where I can't.

If there's some combination of/modification to the above that you'd like to see, just ask.

(All of the above start at the transformation's beginning, and don't have an "ideal" initial frame. If you tell me which version you're partial to, I can easily adjust that. Or maybe you can, with some program. I haven't done that myself, but I think there are supposed to be some that'll do that out there.) Tiddlywinks (talk) 04:14, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

The problem with these images is that they are too busy and contain a lot of information. That will make the files too heavy even while optimized. While it's a good idea to animate these, we don't think we need these for the moment, especially since they are too heavy. We can allow animated images slight above the 2 MB limit, but going from 4 to 24 MB is too much and will take a toll on those who need to pay based on their internet traffic, not to mention that no image should be as heavy as this. Second of all, this looks like taken from YouTube and the quality is not high enough. If we were to try animating these, we ought to have a capture card device with us to have the best quality. Imagine how heavy the image would be if the quality was clean. A YouTube video showing how the Mega Evolution works would be the best solution for now, so I'm sorry for putting down your work like this. Masatoshi talk 20:48, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
So even if I could get animations of some moves from the same or other YouTube videos at 30 fps and only slightly over 2 MB, that wouldn't be good enough quality to use? I actually made an animation for Mud Shot first, at 30 fps, and that was 20 KB over 2 MB (1 KB when optimized as much as possible, but that one took forever to finish). Tiddlywinks (talk) 01:57, 17 March 2014 (UTC)
Sorry, but I don't think we could work on that. YouTube videos are usually a series of jpg frames and receive quality loss, as opposed to getting the images from the game itself with a special capture device or program. Masatoshi talk 03:29, 17 March 2014 (UTC)

Transform Gen IV animation

Hi there, I am currently working on Gen IV move animations. I am attempting to get a better animation of Transform IV, however I can't get it to animate as the current file shows. More info on that file's talk page, but basically I see an instant backsprite replacement with no pixely transforming, in HeartGold, Platinum, and Pearl. And yes, animations are turned on, of course. Can you help me figure out what's going on? Jdthebud (talk) 06:14, 28 March 2014 (UTC)

Speed of Emerald animated sprites

I have noticed that a lot of the Emerald animated sprites are faster than the in-game speed, such as Mudkip. Is this intentional? There are also some Crystal animated sprites tagged as being too fast - i.e Hitmonchan, so I wondered if this is something that should be addressed. Jdthebud (talk) 22:35, 9 April 2014 (UTC)

I'm working on the Emerald animated sprites. If you can slow the Crystal sprites down, then feel free to do so. Masatoshi talk 01:42, 11 April 2014 (UTC)
Cool. Do you know of any kind of frame rate standards for Crystal sprites? Jdthebud (talk) 07:10, 11 April 2014 (UTC)
Trial and error. In any case, try 30 FPS. Masatoshi talk 20:45, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

Rain Gen V Field image for upload

Hey there, I actually asked around about this several weeks ago, but didn't get a conclusion on this. I was able to upload all the field weather condition images except for the rainstorm summoned by Thundurus/Tornadus in BW, as the resulting file is too big - the animation is about 4.5 MB due to a) 60 fps, b) high detail, and c) length of the animation. I did experiment with 30 fps, but he animation wasn't clean and the file size barely dropped anyway, even fully optimized. Are you able to upload this?
As an aside on the type of rain it is, I originally thought it was a thunderstorm, but there is no lightning, so I decided it didn't fit with previous generations and reclassified it as Heavy rain instead. FYI, the games say it's "stormy weather". What are your thoughts on this?
The file name should be "Rain V Field Heavy.png" (with Thunderstorm instead of Heavy if you think it should be a thunderstorm). The summary should be a location template "Route 7 during heavy rainfall".

Jdthebud (talk) 23:47, 30 May 2014 (UTC)

So it seems that the file I have there shows a Hurricane instead - look at the Rain page for more info. I will upload a still image for now, so please upload over that if possible. I will also see how big a thunderstorm file will be, and let you know if I need help uploading that as well. Thanks. Jdthebud (talk) 09:18, 1 June 2014 (UTC)
I was able to upload a thunderstorm image, but it only shows one kind of flash - if multiple types of lighting flashes are more desirable (the one I have has a single then a double) it would be around 3.5 MB. Let me know what you think about that, and also if you are able to uploaded the animated hurricane image. Jdthebud (talk) 04:45, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
Uploaded. It's a good thing that I waited to reply, then. Regarding the thunderstorm issue, I'd rather see what the product looks like before making a judgement on whether to keep this image or use the new one, although so far, I'm waiting for the image to be pruned so that I can take a look at it. Masatoshi talk 22:40, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
Thanks! However, I don't understand your last sentence. Which image are you referring to, and what do you mean by "pruned"? Also, I uploaded a anipng with two different lighting strikes here, although it ended up bigger than my estimate, as I had to balance out the time in between flashes - 4 MB: Thunderstorm V -Jdthebud (talk) 08:03, 5 June 2014 (UTC)
Sorry, it was a typo, I meant "purged". I also meant that I wanted to see what you created before uploading it, comparing both files. The file seems to be missing. Masatoshi talk 03:03, 15 June 2014 (UTC)
Whoops, had a space in there for some reason. Correct link: Thunderstorm V Jdthebud (talk) 08:04, 15 June 2014 (UTC)
Hm... to be honest, we don't need the 4 MB one, the current file works just as fine. Masatoshi talk 03:38, 19 June 2014 (UTC)

My aPNG is to big

Hi, I made a video of Astonish from XY, which I first saved as a .mp4 (~1MB). Because after searching around I didn't find a program with which I could convert .mp4 to animated .png, I created a sequence of .png files (alltogether ~11MB) and then used the program, APNG Assembler, to convert that into an animated .png file - which then was 8MB. Obviously this is way to big. Is there anything I did wrong? Or is there another way I totally missed? - Mr. Flix | My talkpage 00:34, 1 August 2014 (UTC)

Hi. Great to see we have someone else who can help us with XY images! I'd need to know the details of your 8 MB file. Is there a site you could save it in? Imgur, Photobucket or any image sharing site, I would like to see what you have so far. Do you capture and animate both screens? Because we only need the superior screen and if you're capturing both, you can save a lot of space by cropping the files. Masatoshi talk 02:37, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
Have you used APNG optimizer? It helps reducing the file's size, by removing redundant parts (You should do it at the very end, though, as editing an optimized animation makes it messy, due to the way program works). For example, this file was about 536KB before it went through optimization. You should also include a first frame in the animation that's skipped in the actual animation (as I've done in the file, which is reflected by thumbnail), for the browsers that do not support anipng. Also, I am assuming you've used the 3DS capture card, right? If yes, you'll probably be asked by staff member to upload a specific screenshot, presumably a nicknamed Bulbasaur, as a proof of having it. Eridanus (talk) 08:22, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
Uploaded the image here. @Eridanus: Is there any APNG optimizer you can recommend?
Now I finally see what the 'Skip the first frame'-Option is about, thanks! I will use it next time I make that animation.
I am already approved to upload XY-Images by Kogoro, but thanks anyway :)- unsigned comment from Mr. Flix (talkcontribs)
Eridanus: While I appreciate you helping as well, please let me try to talk to him first, since he was directed here. Flix: As Eridanus said, you'd need to optimize your animated png files. This is the one I recommend. Just choose your OS and run it, you don't need to install it (as far as I remember). Drag the file into the executable file, and post the result. I'll see if we can use animated images for moves, or if we should stick to stills for this Generation. I'll be honest, though; with the background and the Pokémon moving, there are hardly any redundancies in those stills for the optimizer to get rid of. I hope I'm wrong. Also, please remember to sign your comments. Masatoshi talk 16:37, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
Ah, sorry, forgot the signing there, won't happen again. Your prediction seems to be correct, after optimizing the 8.45MB file, it was 8.73MB. Also, I just discovered that the abovementioned APNG Assembler has the options, 'Optimize palette' & 'Optimize color type', on by default, so I guess it was already optimized... - Mr. Flix | My talkpage 16:59, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
So I checked, they really are optimized. These files are too large to be extensively used in Bulbapedia, so I'm afraid we'll have to stick with static images. However, the task will be easier now, gotta look at the bright side of things. Masatoshi talk 19:12, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
Yay^^ Okay, onto capturing then, thanks for your help :) - Mr. Flix | My talkpage 19:25, 1 August 2014 (UTC)

Just so you know, it seems we are still missing Mega Aggron. Eridanus (talk) 13:50, 23 September 2014 (UTC)

Yeah, we are. We weren't able to get it, so we'll be missing that one for the time being. Masatoshi talk 03:20, 25 September 2014 (UTC)
Aren't we getting them from PokéWiki though? I know they have a Mega Aggron MS. - Chosen of Mana 14:43, 25 September 2014 (UTC)
Well, that's interesting. They didn't seem to have it back when we were uploading the MS sprites. I'll get to it later. Masatoshi talk 00:03, 26 September 2014 (UTC)

File naming

I plan to upload clothing images in the near future and I was kind of wondering about the naming scheme I intend. My intention is to use names like "Clothing Logo Cap Black.png" and "Clothing Logo Cap Blue.png". I don't really know how much "proper" capitalization is a concern here in the Archives, so I don't know if it's any sort of problem to have the colors capitalized like that when, in-game, they're all lowercase. But I want to use those sorts of names so it's dead simple for the clothing template to automatically form image names without the need for any new parameters (or any operations on the parameters, like changing the case). So are those sorts of names okay? Tiddlywinks (talk) 19:48, 4 October 2014 (UTC)

Firstly, would you mind telling me where you intend getting these images from? Masatoshi talk 21:25, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
From me. Photo spots show clothes just fine. The only thing that's not really possible is male bags. Tiddlywinks (talk) 22:03, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
Well... we'd rather have clean shots from capture cards, instead of taking them from photo spots, as they are saved in a lossy jpg format. Masatoshi talk 22:19, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
You're right. It's not "perfect" or "ideal". But it's far better than nothing (or even the prospect of nothing for months or years or whatever). Accepting photo spot images for the time being would also allow someone who actually has a capture card to prioritize other needed images over whatever shows up in photo spots. There's just too much that needs doing and far too few people willing and able to do it at the optimal quality to be that tight-fisted about it, IMO. Imperfect images can always be improved later.
So can I ask you to be a bit clearer about this "preference"? Should I absolutely not upload what I have, or I shall I go ahead with what I have and with the naming as I mentioned above? If possible/necessary, I would ask that you bring it up with general/appropriate staff and return a more or less "official" position for me. Please and thank you... Tiddlywinks (talk) 23:09, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
Before giving my reply, I contacted Kogoro about this, and we both agreed that it would be ideal to obtain the models from capture cards themselves instead of having to resort to photo spots, as the capture cards will be clearer to take pictures from, as well as being able to capture every clothing model in detail from the stores. While it's true that we might not have enough people to help, we will eventually get to it; so there's no need to rush it, we have more important things to focus on right now. Masatoshi talk 23:45, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
Reasons are all well and good. However, they do not necessarily answer my question. I think I know it, but assumptions leave room for mistakes or exceptions or...whatever, which I am loathe to allow. So, to be sure I understand: I absolutely should not upload my images of clothing from photo spots, correct? Tiddlywinks (talk) 00:42, 6 October 2014 (UTC)
Correct. Masatoshi talk 00:53, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

ORAS Demo Sprites

Our partner PokéWiki, who we recently sourced for our Gen VI sprites, uploaded the sprites for the Demo's Mega Stones and MS sprites for the four new accessible Mega Pokémon. Do we have clearance to upload those sprites to the Archives? - Chosen of Mana 12:44, 23 October 2014 (UTC)

Sorry for my late reply. We do. Masatoshi talk 00:21, 28 October 2014 (UTC)

X & Y Games and Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire battle sprites

Many battle sprites of Pokemon in the four games that I mentioned in the headlines are missing from the Pokemon pages on Bulbapedia. It's too long for me to list, but you and Spriteit forgot to upload the remaining images for the four games mentioned in the headline. Do you think you can find and upload the missing battle sprites (You might have to look at each of the various Pokemon pages on Bulbapedia to know which pages are missing images? Examples of Pokemon missing battle sprites includes Gyarados and Steelix. The missing battle sprites (in national Pokedex order) start at the page of Venusaur and end at the page of Hoopa. Ctc1017 (talk) 02:25, 20 October 2015 (UTC)

It's not that we forgot, it's that those were all the files that were available to us. I know what you mean, but we do not have the proper hardware to get the missing sprites from, which is why we need the help of users who do have a video capturer. Masatoshi talk 17:31, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
