Welcome

Bulbagarden Archives logo.png
Welcome to the Bulbagarden Archives, PsychicRider!

As a new user, you may wish to learn a few things that will be useful in your uploading:

The Manual of Style, or MoS, outlines the format and guidelines of all images on Bulbagarden Archives.

All of our administrators are here to help! Talk to them if you have any questions or problems with the Archives.

Tagging images with correct licenses and categories is a must. These guidelines will help you learn more about tagging images.

Miscellaneous
  • Please read the checklist when you upload media files. The checklist is there to make sure you are doing everything necessary when uploading said media files.
  • Be sure to tag and categorize all images. This helps organize the vast amount of images we have here.
  • Check if your image already exists by searching through categories, and Bulbapedia pages. This action will help prevent unnecessary duplicates from appearing.
  • When adding a licensing tag to anime or game screenshots, please avoid just choosing "Screenshot". This is not descriptive and places the images in the wrong category. Make sure to choose "Screenshot from a Pokémon game," or "Screenshot from the Pokémon anime." This will put them in the right categories, and help keep the Archives clean.
  • Does your image have a purpose? Will you be using it on a Bulbagarden Project? Avoid uploading images because you think they are "Cute" or "Awesome". That clutters the Archives.
  • Personal images are limited to two for each User. Personal images include personal logos, personal trainer sprites, drawings, trainer cards and mostly any image that would only be used in the User: namespace and have no encyclopedic value to Bulbagarden and its affiliates. Please tag these with the {{i-Personal}} template for easier organization. Under no circumstance should a photograph of one's self ever be uploaded onto Bulbagarden Archives.
  • In addition, please upload images with meaningful names. Names that are just numbers, for example, do not describe anything about the image, and can make it difficult for searchers. Names are just as important as licenses and categories, so make them descriptive. Please be sure that the filenames contain alphanumeric characters only.
  • Due to the many automated templates used on the wiki, lowercase extensions are imperative. That means jpg and png instead of JPG and PNG. It looks cleaner, it works better, and it does not cause any problems. Make sure to always use lowercase extensions.
  • If you're confused about the requirements for uploading files, have a look at this guide.
Thank you, and have a good time uploading here!

Because logging onto AIM would be far too silly

I see you've been fixing people's crappy uploads. If possible, could you get these higher-quality versions in png format, reupload to a new filename and tag the old one with delete? If the ones you are finding are in jpg already feel free to ignore this message; just that png is preferred and if we can get png, it would be good to have it. —darklordtrom 21:47, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

As silly as this sounds, nah...If I save them as File.png, it shows as a png, but it makes them unable to upload to the Archives. --PsychicRider 21:51, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
You need to upload to a new filename. png cannot replace a jpg image. —darklordtrom 21:54, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
I saved Oreburgh as Oreburgh as .png, but it told me "The file is corrupt or has an incorrect extension. Please check the file and upload again." ----PsychicRider 21:55, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
Assuming you mean the Oceanic museum... I just got it as png. No idea what's wrong. —darklordtrom 22:03, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
Well I saved my own Oceanic Museum using all types when I was saving it, so it went to png automatically, but it still said above... D:. The only ones that work to upload, are JPEG...----PsychicRider 22:05, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
Maybe if you save it explicitly as png? I'm really not sure what's happening. —darklordtrom 22:15, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
...When I'm supposed to save as png, I save it as File.png, or I rename it as file.png...It always fails...Like seriously, no joke...If it's anything but png, it's like "OhMaGawd! I'm funna be on Bulbagarden", PNGs are like "No! Does not want"...----PsychicRider 22:20, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

Anime Images

Whenever uploading images of anime scenes, please upload them as PNG files. A JPEG file is typically of lesser quality than a PNG file and, as a result, just about everything outside of TCG scans are supposed to be PNGs.

Also, don't convert JPEGs to PNGs and expect them to pass. Doing such retains all of the JPEG qualities and serves to merely increase the size of a lower-quality file. Very rarely does such an image remain in usage for long before it gets replaced. Instead, whenever you want to upload an anime screenshot, save it directly as a PNG. It's not that hard, as many image editors support PNG these days, and even Paint in Windows 7 saves images in PNG by default. --Shiningpikablu252 18:27, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

Yeah I don't have any image editors...BUT, Paint did the trick~. Thanks so much. :D --PsychicRider 20:58, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

Uploading new files

Read the top. i.e. no é. ht14 19:21, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

Also, when using {{delete}}, please write the reason for it no matter how obvious it may seem. ht14 19:22, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
As in not writing that it's no longer needed because it's JPG/JPEG? --PsychicRider 19:47, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
Yes that, but more like labeling certain duplicates, like "duplicate/copy of <insert file here>." That's the purpose of the reason section. If it's extremely obvious though, then fine. ht14 19:48, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
D:. Sorry, I don't really use the Delete thing here usually...So I didn't know...As for the é, I figured it was well OK since it's common in the name...D:. --PsychicRider 19:51, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
Because of a user who added parentheses in the filename, the server crashed for about a third of a day. Not pleasant. I got yelled at even though it wasn't even my fault... x.x Oh well. There seems to be no problems at the moment though. ht14 19:57, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
Well, should it be added that é's should also not be added because it seems like it would be more common to add cause it's in Pokémon so often? --PsychicRider 20:12, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
Interesting point, but the other welcome page says that é should be there... so... ht14 22:03, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
I was wrong, on the basis of Maverick, but I'm right on the basis of Kevzo... so... ht14 23:52, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
I really don't want to block you, but don't forget about no non-alphanumeric characters in the title. I personally don't mind, but... yeah. ht14 01:37, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

For using apostrophes? --Psyライダー 01:39, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Yup. I personally disagree and think it's only issues with hyphens and other symbols at the end of the file, but if you disagree (like me), then ask. I'm not sure if Mav is ok with it, but Kevzo is changing them, so... yeah. See here for details. 01:43, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
Oh, well I knew that I couldn't use alphanumeric characters, but I didn't realize that even though it is something different, that ' would be able to cause problems...>>. My bad...--Psyライダー 01:45, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
As DETH said, we're not sure if it does cause problems, but to be on the safe side. ht14 01:48, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
OK. --Psyライダー 01:49, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Templates

{{p}} and {{m}} are still in effect here. Thus, it'd be {{p|Budew}} using {{m|Mega Drain}} in the anime, not {{bp|Budew}} using {{bp|Mega Drain}} in the anime. Yeah, don't forget to tag the move as well. Thanks. ht14 02:39, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

JPG->PNG

It's obvious that these are converted. The RGB Kanto was for sure JPG->PNG. I have the original.--immewnitythemew 21:10, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

...FAIL. Well, the version you uploaded was a JPG version of the other one we had. I'll upload this "perfect" version.--immewnitythemew 21:17, 21 May 2010 (UTC)
You know, you don't have to be a dick about it. You can go take your little snobby attitude elsewhere, kthanx...I'm not interested in your problems. I uploaded a PNG, and you didn't like it. It's as simple as that to come and tell me that instead of saying FAIL the first time, got it? Also, if you want to not worry about it, how about you upload the image in a better quality the first time... --Psyライダー 21:30, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

Preference

You notice how most of the anime images are File:X anime.png, not File:X Anime.png? Can you try that as well? Consistency purposes. It's up to you though. ht14 17:15, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

Well...to be honest...I noticed that some were File:Xanime, File:X anime, and some before were File: X Anime...and I kinda like File:X Anime, so I adapted to that...So sorry...D: --Psyライダー 17:25, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
As I said, preference, so no worries. =] ht14 17:27, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
Should I upload to lowercase anime? --Psyライダー 17:28, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
Preference? Consistency? The choice is yours. ht14 17:35, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
Alright, I'll try to remember anime, but no promises, cause I'll likely forget...D; --Psyライダー 17:40, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks!

For the hires cat thing. It made it go by a LOT faster. Now just to find images people forgot to categorize...--immewnitythemew 20:20, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
