Welcome

Bulbagarden Archives logo.png
Welcome to the Bulbagarden Archives, Masatoshi!

As a new user, you may wish to learn a few things that will be useful in your uploading:

The Manual of Style, or MoS, outlines the format and guidelines of all images on Bulbagarden Archives.

All of our administrators are here to help! Talk to them if you have any questions or problems with the Archives.

Tagging images with correct licenses and categories is a must. These guidelines will help you learn more about tagging images.

Miscellaneous
  • Please read the checklist when you upload media files. The checklist is there to make sure you are doing everything necessary when uploading said media files.
  • Be sure to tag and categorize all images. This helps organize the vast amount of images we have here.
  • Check if your image already exists by searching through categories, and Bulbapedia pages. This action will help prevent unnecessary duplicates from appearing.
  • When adding a licensing tag to anime or game screenshots, please avoid just choosing "Screenshot". This is not descriptive and places the images in the wrong category. Make sure to choose "Screenshot from a Pokémon game," or "Screenshot from the Pokémon anime." This will put them in the right categories, and help keep the Archives clean.
  • Does your image have a purpose? Will you be using it on a Bulbagarden Project? Avoid uploading images because you think they are "Cute" or "Awesome". That clutters the Archives.
  • Personal images are limited to two for each User. Personal images include personal logos, personal trainer sprites, drawings, trainer cards and mostly any image that would only be used in the User: namespace and have no encyclopedic value to Bulbagarden and its affiliates. Please tag these with the {{i-Personal}} template for easier organization. Under no circumstance should a photograph of one's self ever be uploaded onto Bulbagarden Archives.
  • In addition, please upload images with meaningful names. Names that are just numbers, for example, do not describe anything about the image, and can make it difficult for searchers. Names are just as important as licenses and categories, so make them descriptive. Please be sure that the filenames contain alphanumeric characters only.
  • Due to the many automated templates used on the wiki, lowercase extensions are imperative. That means jpg and png instead of JPG and PNG. It looks cleaner, it works better, and it does not cause any problems. Make sure to always use lowercase extensions.
  • If you're confused about the requirements for uploading files, have a look at this guide.
Thank you, and have a good time uploading here!

Regarding Pokémon Daisuki Club CD

Just thought I would like to let you know. ht14 14:29, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

Oh, alright, well, I had asked CoolPikachu about that and he told me that. Thanks for clearing it out. Masatoshitalk 14:31, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

Uploading

How do you upload so fast!?—★Pika3323 20:57, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

Thanks to this. Masatoshitalk 20:58, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
Ah, man there has to be a plug-in for google chrome to upload to this place. Then speed would sky rocket. =(—★Pika3323 21:04, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
I'm actually okay with it, I like doing it one by one, checking any visible differences from the RS sprites, better to be a steady tortoise than a speedy (and possibly messy) hare. :P Masatoshitalk 21:06, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, one by one. Once I'm done with the sprites I delete them to prevent in the folder I store them in (which is by the way called "footprint" leftover from my footprint uploading days.) from clutter. To bad Heart gold back sprites only be unique. That would also speed things up. Back to Gloom (the pokemon...)!—★Pika3323 21:19, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
I worry about deletion after I did all of them. Hey, at least HG's sprites aren't different from SS's. :P Masatoshitalk 21:50, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
Oh phew! I thought I was alone here! Welcoming neglected users (who contributed) but enough of that! Back to the sprites!—★Pika3323 21:20, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

APNGs

One thing I forgot to tell you, make sure the first frame of the animation is set at 0ms (set it to skip this first frame) and actually has a shot of the move in action so that people without APNG support can at least see the move, instead of just a normal looking screen. Jellotalk 17:09, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

Dark Pulse

Dark Pulse IV.png How does this look? --Coolピカチュウ! 07:36, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
Well, you forgot to click on "Skip first frame", and it seems to be a tad fast again. Also, remember, if you're going to animate the blinking Pokémon, do it at around 100ms. Masatoshitalk 15:52, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

Congrats

Your hard work has paid off. Welcome aboard the staff as a Junior Administrator. If you have any questions, bug the staff. --P S Yライダー 21:05, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

Yay, thank you. Masatoshitalk 21:06, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

No what?

What did you mean by no for the image? Pattyman 03:16, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

Ani-quest

Can you upload a newer image of Metal Claw as it is a bit blurry? Pattyman 00:53, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

All in due time. I'm doing them alphabetically, it will take some time, but it'll be there. Masatoshitalk 01:13, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
Well, keep up the good work then. Pattyman 01:34, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

File

I tried to upload animated version of SelfDestruct but... damn, upload does nothing... It says "waiting for achives.bulbagarden.net" or what the hell it said... After page finishes "loading", I am still on upload page...this equals to wasting time. Also, there is way to decrease file size? 97 frame animation's size is 2,45 MB... Marked +-+-+ 11:44, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

What are you using? And you can't upload it because it's over 2MB, if you want, I can upload it for you, but I'd like you to tell me what you exactly use. I get 97 frames in around 1 MB. Masatoshitalk 14:54, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
What you mean by "What are you using?" - If you mean how I upload...well I just upload directly by upload media button... It looks that file is just too big, because I uploaded Bite in third generation with 40 frames (yeah, suprisingly short) and about 1MB, and in first* generation, with 39 frames and 352 KB (Generation I has less complex graphics and in effect animation has smaller size), both uploaded without bigger problems. Marked +-+-+ 15:15, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
No. I mean, how do you make your anipngs? And yes, that's what I had in mind with using moves that changed its type, such as Gust, good to know you got it. Masatoshitalk 15:17, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
Uh wait, did not YOU said to me how to do make animated png? If not you, then who?(AnimGet for making screenshots of move->Photoshop for converting into .png->JapngEditor to make animaton)...Okey, I need to go, but I should be back in less than hour.Marked +-+-+ 15:24, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

I don't know HOW, but I got 19 (NINETEEN[!]) frames on Tackle in Generation I, with ONLY 3(!!!) being animation, the other 16 is "yyy used xxx!" What the hell? Marked +-+-+ 19:09, 8 April 2011 (UTC) PS.Shortness of some moves is reallly suprising... Wait... TWO. TWO frames of move (that removed is the very begginning of blinking after being hit)... o_O- unsigned comment from Marked +-+-+ (talkcontribs)

Yes, I was the one, I'm trying to check if you follow the same procedure I have done, it seems that you do, you don't have to worry about the file size, however, if some of them exceeds the 2 MB limit, give it to me so I can upload it instead. Also, for steadiness, I'd ask you to rather follow a move list in alphabetic order, pick a generation and start from Absorb 'till last move, please. That way, it's easier for us to track which ones aren't moving or the ones that need an animation, you should check the moves list in Bulbapedia for an accurate listing, click to toggle the Generation one, and do that one and the previous ones (if that's the case).
And don't be surprised for the frames, remember that Generation I was pretty simple on moves + everything white + shitty graphics, especially with Tackle and Leer, by far the most basic moves. Also, please, sign EVERY new comment you do (even the P.S. ones), that way I know when you replied. D: Masatoshitalk 21:28, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
Also, yeah, the preview button is your friend, try not to edit that much in a short amount of time, that's what the preview button is for. :V Masatoshitalk 21:33, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

How I can "give" them to you? Marked +-+-+ 07:52, 9 April 2011 (UTC) PS.Thunderbolt has unusual split, it's splitted for Japanese one (watch out, it's like the EP038 accident, if not worse) and "our" version. Unfortuantely I do not have any Japanese version :P Marked +-+-+ 07:55, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

Remember to indent your comments, please. D:
Also, give them to me through here, and once I come back I can upload them. Yeah, it's kinda hard to find a <removed>, but you need to intensify your search. And I saw the video, I think you can upload that, I don't think we'll get a seizure unless we stare at it for ages. :P Masatoshitalk 15:23, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

1)"Give" them to you by...imageshack or something of it kind? 2)Getting<removed> is easy part. Understanding that all stuff there in Japanese and getting Thunderbolt is harder part. 3)What you do to upload files bigger than 2MB? :P 4)You mentioned once that one move took you 300 frames. What the heck it was? Marked +-+-+ 18:51, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

Guys, please don't discuss you know what here. We can get into serious trouble. Also, administrators are able to upload beyond the 2MB limit that's why he's asking you give him the animation once it's done. Jellotalk 19:29, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
Marked, again, please, indent your comments. Actually, through imgur is good, or even tinypic. Well, since I'm a (Junior) Administrator, I can bypass that, so if you can give it to me, I'll upload it for you. And I honestly don't remember which one it was, I've gotten a lot of files with >300 frames lately, thanks to Black and White.
Jello, you got it. No more discussions about that. Now, if you excuse me, I'll beat it. Will be back in a few hours. Masatoshitalk 20:55, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
Sorry for that but... until I read dictionary, I (almost) had no idea what indent means D: Marked +-+-+ 21:04, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

Counter (Generation I)

I can't find Pokémon with which it would work. I tried with Pidgey's Quick Attack, but every time it's says that it (Counter) missed. Any ideas on what Pokémon I should try using it? Note that in Generation I it works only with Normal-type or Fightning-type moves. I skipped it, to do rest of moves. (I also skipped: Bide, because I don't have that TM and Clamp, because of version-exclusive Pokémon) Marked +-+-+ 18:41, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

It's up to you, honestly. Masatoshitalk 21:06, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

Japng

What settings should I use when I create an animation with Japng? At the moment I just set the display time to 16 ms and leave everything else blank. Frugali 03:43, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

Well, depends on the power of the computer and the FPS set. In DPPt I use 33ms/F, in BW I use 40~44ms/F. Masatoshitalk 03:54, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

Server malfunction?

I checked Drill Peck. One time it says that there is no such file, one time it is... In Drill Peck article when I used "Show preview", picture was, but now I see just "File:Drill Peck I.png" in red... About 1-2 minute(s) ago I saw it on Bulbapedia, now it says "No file by this name exists."... Marked +-+-+ 12:31, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

Did you upload the image? It is best to do so before putting it on Bulbapedia. Pattyman 12:46, 13 April 2011 (UTC)
I uploaded file yesterday, while I edited article today Marked +-+-+ 15:11, 13 April 2011 (UTC)
If you were able to go through the upload form and were directed to the file again, then it got uploaded, however, due to server sync related issues, you might have to reload the page in order to see it, or at least purging it by clicking on the clock right at the left of your nick, which is on the top left corner of your screen. Anyways, the file can be seen, although it can only be seen with underscores currently, so I'll take a wild guess and say it's because of sync problems (has happened before, will happen again). But yeah, if you upload it, go through the upload form, it's been uploaded and can be seen anywhere (if we expect the person who uploaded it to not change the link first on Bulbapedia). Masatoshitalk 17:17, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

TM 52

I made the file smaller and re-uploaded it. Mantine 23:38, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

Haze

It's animation in Generation I is very fast... I will have to skip it, at least for now... Still Counter is biggest problem, as for now, I have how it works in this generation I... PS.Is there is a list of ALL moves that ARE in Generation III (NOT introduced, a list of moves in total), sorted alphabetically? That would help with Generation III. Marked +-+-+ 10:44, 12 May 2011 (UTC)

You could sort them through Generations and start from the first one that is in III and keep on it until you finish Generations II and I. Also, if the animation is too fast, then slow it down. Masatoshitalk 05:07, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
Slow down? I don't think if I even will be able to record it without skips... Okey 2nd try and got... 89 88 frames... Wtf? 89 88 frames (and that's ONLY move, with text [mentioned later] it's more)? That's a LOT for this generation. Now I will have to "fix" text (All STATUS changes are eliminated) with Paint (copy and paste method), since game for no reason speeded up there (and ONLY there)... Marked +-+-+ 08:20, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
Decided to made text appear instantly, since just animation is a whopping 1,81MB. Marked +-+-+ 08:34, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
When I say "slow down", I'm talking about the frames, add some FPS until you deem the animation accurate. Also, here's a tip; from now on, after getting the animated png, use this optimizer, it will greatly reduce the amount of space it takes for one to animate these files, have you seen I'm normally getting less than one MB now? I used to have animations between 2~4 MB. That's thanks to that optimizer. Masatoshitalk 13:40, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
Okey.(response after like 3 weeks? Kinda late). As you say, that optimizer is useful - it cut about 600KB from Night Shade (from 2,40MB to 1,81MB) Marked +-+-+ 16:37, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

Wait a moment. What the hell? That just broke animation. Marked +-+-+ 16:45, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

When you optimize an animation it does that. That particular program doesn't display it properly, but the animation still works nonetheless. Jellotalk 22:38, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
Yes, it's because the program tries to get rid of any useless frame/part of image and thus makes it lighter. You will see a lot of "glitched" animations, but any browser will show it properly. Masatoshitalk 22:43, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

Regarding ArtChampions.png

I uploaded ArtChampions.png (the character artwork of the main series League Champions) for use on the Pokémon Champion page, which previously contained sprites but no character artwork. If that seems unnecessary by Bulbapedia's standards (and indeed said revision was undone minutes after its completion), then by all means remove the picture. ...and I see someone already has. Lovely how that works. Alderryeguy 18:52, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

Japanese Thunderbolt.

Just uploaded. About 148 frames (~1,5MB before and 742KB after optimizing)... Japanese Yellow uses new animation (that toned down and shorter), not sure which one is used in Japanese Blue (Note:Probably old, due to Japanese Blue [{not so} obviously] being released before Red and Blue). Does Mv template is capable of saying "Red and Green"? Also, SonicBoom in Japanese Gold differs from the in international Silver or Crystal. (I have no idea if it still in Japanese Crystal. check Trivia section of SonicBoom). Marked +-+-+ 13:27, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

PS.Nevermind, SnorlaxMonster already modified template to include "RBY", "RGB" combination and SonicBoom case. Marked +-+-+ 15:29, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

Finally... done...

Somehow Counter worked... Lovely Kiss was the last one... (At least) 2 months... Now goes animation in Gen III. Few are already done (Bite, Metal Claw, Selfdestruct and Explosion)... Marked +-+-+ 21:17, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

I noticed that the Metal Claw one was a bit blurry. Pattyman 00:54, 27 June 2011 (UTC)

Seriously?

Well Amnesia got 2.5MB after optimizing, but that's nothing compared to Blizzard - 329 (330 with "skip first frame" stuff) frames (giving about 11,5MB... obviously before optimizing) And that's enough frames to get Exception in JapngEditor. x_x Marked +-+-+ 16:48, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

I honestly don't get why you get that filesize. Will see how to fix that later. Masatoshitalk 16:57, 17 July 2011 (UTC)
That's because, unlike in other generations, Amnesia has moving background. As I saw, in Gen IV and Gen V, background is just plain black, while in Gen II and Gen I well... they're enough old to not have background... Gen III looks like this. Marked +-+-+ 17:10, 17 July 2011 (UTC)
Ah, I see. Try optimizing an optimized file? If nothing can happen, then give me the file and I'll upload it for you. Masatoshitalk 17:31, 17 July 2011 (UTC)
Optimizing file that's already optimized does not work. I could sent file if I knew your e-mail or site to upload file (NOT Rapidshare or Rapidshare-like site. And Imageshack.us fails with animated files). 08:30, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
Try imgur, I think I could upload them there with no problems at all. Masatoshitalk 01:47, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
"Image failed to upload" stuff. >_< Confuse Ray - 294 frames (technically less but it includes the "it's confused" animation)... EXCEPTION AGAIN... (I guess it stops working at about 300 frames...) I'll guess now I will record HMs in overworld (and moves like Flash or Sweet Scent in overworld) before continuing on in-battle animation. In the first games you had to manually use HM (or TM if it works outside of battle) through Party... Marked +-+-+ 09:34, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
Upload them to Mediafire, then. I'll download them and then upload them later. If you're going to do the overworld ones, try to do them like this: [Move] [Generation number] OW.png, example: Cut I OW.png. I'll be in charge of the BW ones, but it will take me some time. Masatoshitalk 14:12, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
Already done Cut and Flash. Replaced the .gif with .png. Now going with Fly... Hope that it won't get exception like Blizzard or Confuse Ray. And Amnesia's here. Firefox reads it correctly. Marked +-+-+ 14:38, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

Fusion attacks

They need two animations both... one with normal attack and second after powered-up by Fusion Flare/Fusion Bolt

Powered-up Fusion Flare has some SERIOUS zoom-out. Marked +-+-+ 10:45, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

Don't worry, I'll get to that soon. Masatoshitalk 12:00, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

Animated PNG help?

I was wondering of you know how to upload animated PNG images? I've asked Pattyman, and he said you or Marked would maybe know about this sort of thing. I've tried uploading one in both Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox, and it doesnt seem to work in either browser. It just keeps returning me to the Upload Media page, but it doesnt display any error message. Vuvuzela2010 21:41, 9 August 2011 (UTC)

It's probably bigger than the limit for uploading. Upload it to imgur and link it here, I want to see it. Masatoshitalk 06:48, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
It wont let me upload it on that site, because its larger than 2MB, so yeah, thats whats happened. Its basically a png version of this file. Vuvuzela2010 22:34, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
Then create a Dropbox account, store your file in the Dropbox folder within your computer, paste the public URL for it in here. Also, have you used APNG Optimizer? That'll reduce the filesize as much as possible. Masatoshitalk 19:47, 11 August 2011 (UTC)
Here it is: [1] (there are also two other variations [2] [3]). Oh, and I optimised them like you said. These are the first animated images I've mad, so please tell me if there's something wrong with them, so I won't make the same mistake again :S . Vuvuzela2010 00:17, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
Error 403. Did you go to your Dropbox folder in the site, clicked in the dropdown box at the right side of the filename and clicked on "Copy URL"? Can't see your file. Masatoshitalk 01:29, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
They wernt in the public folder at first, but they should work now. [4] [5] [6] Vuvuzela2010 02:05, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
Okay, thanks. I'm gonna upload them after in the day. They will retain the filenames you've put. Masatoshitalk 23:22, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
Shazam, wham and kablam! They're quite heavy, though. Good luck with them when thumbnailed, gonna have to ask people to click on it to see its full effects. The 56k dial-up users will have a rough time, though... Masatoshitalk 01:30, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
Thanks! Yeah I noticed that they dont animate, is that normal for animated PNGs? Or is it because of the size (MB, or that actual size of the image)? Vuvuzela2010 02:17, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
You're welcome, if you need my help, I'll be there. They don't animate unless you're in a browser that supports it (Firefox, for instance), AND they won't animate if they are thumbnailed. See the moves I'm animating? They move because the infobox doesn't thumbnail it. Masatoshitalk 07:21, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
I would suggest resizing them so that the width is 150px so that it doesn't get resized by the anime move box, because if an APNG is resized by MediaWiki it loses its animation. It would also decrease the file size. --SnorlaxMonster 09:11, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
I've resized it to 150 width by 120 height (the size is much better, now only 338KB), but its still not animating in the move box? Do both need to be 150 (it would make it look a bit square though)? Oh, and I'm using Firefox. Vuvuzela2010 15:48, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
Resetting indentation 1st animation (Castform changing to normal) is working for me fine (ofk using Firefox). I don't know what problems you have. Marked +-+-+ 11:09, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
It works now, it was probably because it had just been uploaded. Vuvuzela2010 23:33, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

By the way of animated PNG files, have you got any idea for the exception (click here) I counted that 5 animations got exception (Blizzard, Confuse Ray, Fly Dream Eater and recently, Fire Spin). Marked +-+-+ 10:48, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

Try not thumbnailing the file, if you're using "thumb", it's small so there's no need of having it thumbnailed. And regarding Marked: it means that the file is too large and it exceeds the memory the application is granted. You'll have to edit it with APNG Anime Maker. It does not support first frame skip, though, you'll have to use APNG Anime Maker first, set it up, save it, optimize it, and then use one of the untouched frames (from the folder the files are in) as the first frame. Skip and save. Was it clear enough? Masatoshitalk 22:31, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
1)Either Bulba has problems, or my PC is enough old to start having problems.2)What the hell is with these rollbacks?3)It took me some time until I got that I have to:a)Add all frames to APNG Anime Maker.b)Optimize it via option IN Anime Maker (I used that apng optimizer first time).c)Add first frame (though I should do this as first step ._.)d)Save it.e)Skip first frame via Japng.f)...g)PROFIT! (lol) Anyway... Firefox displays it almost correctly. Almost. Compare it (I used old and newer save)... Wtf is with that grey background? It should be white. Marked +-+-+ 10:18, 18 August 2011 (UTC)
Ugh. Checked two animations... Confuse Ray - the ducks (I animated from move to "xxx is Confused" part :p) leave a "trail" that makes that part more transparent (or brighter... it just looked more "whiter", idk if it's even a word)... Fly in Overworld - Well... looks fairly right. When optimizing, I have these options: Tolerance - 10; Lossy (ON); Selected Image Only (OFF); Selected Region Only (ON); Loop - 0; Compression Level - 6 Marked +-+-+ 14:11, 18 August 2011 (UTC)
Bulba's having issues lately. Yeah, when you're using Anime APNG Maker, things will go a bit slower, especially when you're not used to it. Maybe you changed some settings in the Anime APNG Maker? I'd advise you not to touch a thing if you did. Masatoshitalk 21:51, 18 August 2011 (UTC)
I was thinking if you could upload those two Seed Flare images* that are on my talk page (they are in links) since I wasn't able to upload them. Pattyman 23:31, 18 August 2011 (UTC)
I don't know if I changed something or not. :/ These stuff isn't heavily affecting animations anyway (unlike that black stuff when viewing through japng after optimizing). Also, when I became Junior Administrator? Seriously I had no idea about that until I checked active users. Marked +-+-+ 07:45, 19 August 2011 (UTC)
Congratulations! Psychic Rider did a staff renewal and chose you as a Junior Administrator amongst some other people. Well, if you didn't change much, there's not an issue to fix, at least for now. Masatoshitalk 23:36, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

How do I handle this situation?

I don't know who to ask specifically about this, but I'd like to upload some replacement pictures, specifically animated png versions of Psystrike and Pay Day. It says I need to be an autoconfirmed user to upload over existing images though, and since I doubt I'd be hitting that anytime soon (I really don't update much, just when I spot something off, though I'm thinking of making more animated move pictures), how should I upload my stuff so that it ends up with the right filename while getting rid of the old picture? -- Trainer Hunter 17:35, 6 September 2011 (UTC)

Well, you can either try and do some minor stuff in files, you can find some mistakes here and there, or you could upload it while letting us know first, or you could give it to me so I can upload it instead. Masatoshitalk 01:20, 7 September 2011 (UTC)
Still sounds pretty lame. Eh. Well, at least there's still a bunch of stuff I CAN upload, now that I checked. I hope you don't mind being a relay for these few things then. Or in case I get stuff over the 2 MB limit.

Files "missing".

For most files in this category it says File missing. What the hell happened in these ~18 hours? Marked +-+-+ 14:48, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

I see no issues there... Masatoshitalk 06:33, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

Adding to the over-2MB list

Any chance you can add these two to the previous four uploads I linked?

Werd and I have uploaded them all, there you go. Masatoshitalk 06:33, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
Welp, got five more things I can't upload.

http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/293/roaroftime.png
http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/5793/memento.png (I'm surprised at how small it optimized considering it's over 1000 frames. Probably because of lack of fancy background or something.)
http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/8619/rockslide.png (Derived from the memento animation since I used a move as demonstration. I saw how Destiny Bond just cut to the fainting, but I figured it'd look awkward for grudge due to how the PP loss text comes before the grudge test. This is also the only replacement PNG)
I hope you don't mind this pestering to keep going, because I'm trying to get a bunch of moves done every day to keep up the pace. - Trainer Hunter 09:29, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
Sorry for giving you a load of work, but could you upload these animated images? Cheers.

God, Pokémon Colloseum and XD weighs a lot more than games of main series due to being of different console. And I can't pass the 2MB limit. Yet. x_X Marked +-+-+ 12:45, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
If you had a capture card or something for the TV that would probably work. Anyhow, yet another replace-able image, which makes six from my end. Trainer Hunter 00:28, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
Guys, we can't talk about that. There is one, though, you'll have to have a powerful computer for it to properly run. Also, I will upload them during the night. Also, Trainer Hunter, your files are too fast. Gonna have to slow 'em down, to around 35~45 ms per frame, check Memento for example. Look how fast that goes, you can barely read what it says. Also, the file needs the final frame to be of at least a second long, to be able to tell better when the animation ends. Masatoshitalk 03:07, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
New petition, Hunter, could you not press anything when the text shows up? Let the text flow through, and let the game run its course, so people will read what it says without making them rush before it disappears. Masatoshitalk 09:26, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
Er... well, this is a pickle. I'm recording them at the same speed the game plays, and I don't press a thing (So the text autocancels by itself). The only difference I guess is that I set the ingame text to fast. Since I thought people would want to see the move in action or something. And I haven't had a problem reading the text. So... I guess I'll wait to see what you have to say then. I won't be looking forward to remaking 100+ animated PNGs, though. I've been at this the past few days while I had no internet and it kinda sucks to see that they're all obsolete. Are there some animation guidelines on the site anywhere so I can check? - unsigned comment from Trainer Hunter (talkcontribs)
Sorry about the sudden new comment, but I just realized a few things. Like how I can just set up examples to help things along. Do you like mid speed or slow speed? I'm probably not gonna set up the text speed like that for the move announcement since, you know. People know the move by the time they see the image. And as far as I've seen every other image doesn't scroll the text on the move announcement. But I'll change up the text speed for any image I've made that involves text that pops up after the move (like for status moves). I'm NOT changing the animation speed though. 16ms is the exact same speed the game plays, and I've done side-by-side comparisons between the PNGs I've made and my own game. I'd like to keep the animation speed the same as the game for accurate re-enactment. Also I don't like that second-length pause. It's kinda long and disorienting. Though I guess to some that sudden shift would be disorienting. Still, I personally think the shift is a pretty good transition myself (Especially since the game usually has some frames or even a second of cooldown before the damage flash) but eh, you're the mod, not me. Anyhow, I've given my examples and said my thoughts so now I'd like to see what you say before I change or don't change any of the masses of images I've got here. - Trainer Hunter 22:31, 15 September 2011 (UTC)
Well, some will need to be remade, but I can back you up on those. Regarding the animation guidelines, there isn't one written, but:
  • Frame speed should range between 30~40 ms, in doubt, just ask and show proof.
  • Last frame should have a pause of 1000ms.
  • Text speed should be normal.
  • The text is automatic, even if you don't press any button, the text will go through after a certain amount of time, so let it flow.
  • Same goes for the animation for the stats either going up or down.
  • Every file shall have a first frame for browsers that do not support animated png.
  • With certain exceptions, the last frame should be the first one that shows the foe's information after the Pokémon attack.
  • Moves that attack consecutively, for example.
  • Animations with attacks that hit several turns later should not include the foe's move unless the move used by the Pokémon gets benefits from it (i.e.: Bide).
All I can think of at the moment. Also. I have that speed because that's what people with the game and the console had advised me, I've shown them countless images, and they say the speed I did is good enough, so that's why I'm suggesting it. Although a person I'm asking about this says it's fine, but PsychicRider tells me that yours are too fast (he has both games and a console), and that they should be slowed down. Plus he agrees that it's better to have it slower so people can read whatever the text is. Masatoshitalk 23:48, 15 September 2011 (UTC)
Hm, well, I guess if that's what the higher-ups say, I can't go against it. Anyhow I whipped up a quick speed test right here, what do you think? This is at 30ms. And again, the text letter entry stating the move is only there so I can demonstrate the text speed. By the way, what do you mean by "the foe's information after the pokémon attack"? The health bar? Or something else? - Trainer Hunter 00:40, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
Resetting Hm... and now it's a bit slow. It depends, then, try with 25ms, and what are your frame settings? - And yeah, that's the text scrolling speed I like. And yes, the health bar. Masatoshitalk 01:38, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
Frame settings? I don't know what you mean by that. And I admit I didn't see the life bar freeze on any image before today so eh, I guess I'll just have to replace everything I uploaded too. Anyhow, here's some 20ms and 25ms examples. Once I have a speed confirmation I can get started on re-recording all hundred-something images I've made. Tomorrow. Because I'm kinda tired today. - Trainer Hunter 02:03, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
Oh, one more thing since this seems wrapped up after the speed is decided. I know this is kinda unrelated (But I don't want to start a new topic line while we're still in discussion here), but I don't want to forget to ask about this by the time I do this. How would I handle putting the multiple variations of 5th gen Weather Ball onto the Weather Ball page? I'm thinking of recording them soon but I want to know how to deal with the actual page technicalities. - Trainer Hunter 02:19, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
25ms version looks fair enough. You don't need to do them all at once, take your time. Upload every instance of Weather Ball as a separate file, it's like what I did with Curse, although this one might be a bit trickier, we'll decide what to do by then. Masatoshitalk 02:50, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
Yeah I saw what you did with Curse, but with more than two variations, yeah it'd be a jumble. Anyhow, making these PNGs doesn't take me a lot of time at all, and I have a lot of time to kill, so I'll just pace around 10-20 of them a day if I can (more if I'm feeling like making a bunch), so this is no trouble. Thanks for all the input, I'll be getting back to this soon. And when I have the Weather Ball variations up I guess I'll point them out to you and you can figure out how to handle them. - unsigned comment from Trainer Hunter (talkcontribs)

More to do.

Movegen infobox was updated for 3D games (Battle Revolution, Colloseum, XD, Stadium, Stadium 2). Also, stuff like Weather Ball (including ???-type, which is done for XD) or Curse... Gonna add Fury Swipes, Fury Attack and Fly, then switch to directly by alphabet, not by generation then by alphabet (say thanks to this), and that means I will start with Aerial Ace after switching (since this is first move available in Gen III games and not done yet in these games). I have Air Cutter already done, I don't remember even when I did it. Now how many moves differ between Hoenn and Kanto games? Marked +-+-+ 18:57, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

Yet more 2MB stuff

Figured now would be a good time for a new subject. I've got five moves today that are over the limit:
Draco Meteor
Healing Wish (I really hope it doesn't get any bigger than this, but I wouldn't be surprised.)
Lunar Dance
Magma Storm
Psycho Boost
My plans are essentially to re-record everything I've got then record the rest of the moves that don't have Gen 5 pictures. After that I'll be doing replacements in bulk (Seems I can do that now!) and after that... I guess I could work on Gen 4 recordings? But that's gonna be a while. Especially since there's just above/below 200 moves with no gen 5 images. - unsigned comment from Trainer Hunter (talkcontribs)

Healing_Wish.png‎ (256 × 192 pixels, file size: 3.21 MB, MIME type: image/png, looped, 1579 frames, 40s) - HOW YOU DID THAT? 1579 frames? SERIOUSLY? Marked +-+-+ 18:51, 20 September 2011 (UTC)
He probably used Anime PNG Maker, I needed that for +1000 frames. Masatoshitalk 20:51, 20 September 2011 (UTC)
I screwed Blizzard with Anime PNG Maker (background was gray-like instead of white, and when ice shard moved through the gray background, it changed to white... wtf?) . Meh, why not give them to you (they're pretty heavy, about 70MB in total)? I fail at using that program. Marked +-+-+ 17:08, 21 September 2011 (UTC)
Basically I make an animated png in APNG Anime Maker, open it in Gimp (version 2.7.3 with an APNG plug-in) and re-save it (This time while forcing it to skip the first frame), and then I optimize it with the APNG Optimizer. If I had a way to skip the first frame and set the speed fast without crashing when there's more than 460-ish frames I'd use that but I have no idea where to find such. At least I have something that works. Anyhow, got another file that's too big for me to upload:
Heart Swap
Would have uploaded stuff earlier but I think I was burnt out after realizing I had to redo over 100 images all over again. And I'm busy with some stuff on the side so we'll see how uploading goes. - Trainer Hunter 07:42, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
How the hell you managed to make Imageshack play anipng? It does not work for me (when I uploaded Aromatherapy, it was stuck on first frame). ._. Marked +-+-+ 15:34, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
Since I answered that over there, back to over the limit!
Heal Order
Spacial Rend
U-Turn
Volt Tackle
That should do it for today. More over the limit than I hoped. - Trainer Hunter 06:31, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
Got GIMP 2.6.11, no idea how the hell you are supossed to get 2.7.3, and can't find APNG plug-in for my version. Marked +-+-+ 20:09, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
And with that question answered, some more stuff.
Eruption
Fire Blast
Mirror Coat
Rage Powder
Water Spout
And with that, my backlog of images has been worked through! Next I'll be readjusting the speed of my first uploads, then I'll get to working on the rest of the moves that have no 5th gen images, so you won't have to worry too much about those. Oh, and I got the Weather Ball variants up.
Weather Ball: Fire
Weather Ball: Water
Weather Ball: Ice
Weather Ball: Rock
I... honestly don't have any idea on how to set them up on the page. Perhaps cycle the Weather Ball variations like how it cycles Castform's form on the Castform page? Go ahead and bring it up to whoever would have an idea if you know who would, because I don't know if there's anyone specific in staff who'd know. And thanks again. - Trainer Hunter 08:33, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

Since these two files aren't so much related to these above (they are Gen III whilst the most all of above are from BW) I resetted the discussion (to not confuse generations). :p Marked +-+-+ 13:23, 27 September 2011 (UTC)

Just to leave this as a note, someone else uploaded all of my stuff. You don't have to worry about it whenever you get back. - Trainer Hunter 05:02, 11 October 2011 (UTC)
Oh, I'm so sorry, Marked! I'll upload them right away. And I know, Hunter. Since I'm back, you can give them to me again if you want to. Masatoshitalk 17:27, 29 October 2011 (UTC)

Alright, I will wait for a few hours, as I need to discuss how the filename for combined attacks will be in the end, and in the meanwhile, I'll have to ask you to re-do Explosion, since it's an attack that makes the Pokémon faint; those need to be animated until the Pokémon disappears after fainting. Masatoshitalk 23:44, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
Well the only reason I did that was because you didn't say anything about it the last time I gave you an Explosion png to upload but eh, sure. It's an easy fix anyhow, the way I have things set up.

I am the one who should be sorry, as I knew I was forgetting something when I told you about the "guideline" on animated images, and it happened to be this. And we decided to use the following system: [Element] Pledge [Sea of Fire/Swamp/Rainbow].png. I'll upload them tomorrow, as I'm currently studying for a test I'm sure I'll fail. Images of the moves

Where did you get those high quality images of the animated moves from, the ones you made on your own? Pattyman 02:25, 22 September 2011 (UTC) A little addition, I already have the software to create animated pngs so I won't need to know that. Pattyman 02:30, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

Sprite Constraints

There is a guideline that says that Gen IV sprites should be in an 80x80 box. However, when trying to animate a Regigigas sprite (Diamond and Pearl) the recording shows it jumping around way out of these constraints. What to do?--Chalkwriter 19:46, 23 October 2011 (UTC)

Upload it anyways, we're thinking of ways on how to resolve this issue. Masatoshitalk 02:55, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

More APNG help

So, I uploaded several .apngs of moves from Gen III, and the problem is that I don't know how to change the first thumbnail to one for browsers that don't support .apng animations. The method I used was to record the animation on vba with Hypercam, create a .gif from the resulting video, then convert that to an .apng file. It works fine in Firefox, but Chrome shows only the first frame. Marked +-+-+ also talked about changing the speed of different actions in the animation (text speed, etc.), although I don't see why that is an issue. I think if I can at least get the thumbnail correct, it should be fine. Please help! --Jdthebud 05:33, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
