Welcome to the Bulbagarden Archives, New Person!

Thank you for joining our community! By creating your account you are now able to upload images to support Bulbapedia and Bulbagarden's other projects. This is a brief introduction to the Archives rules and resources to help you get started:

  • Uploaded images must meet several requirements.
  • All images need categories and license tags. Save time and fill them out as you upload.
    • There are many different licenses - be sure to pick the best fit!
  • Use meaningful filenames. Make them descriptive so that searchers can find your images easily.
  • Personal images are not allowed. Any personal images found will be promptly removed.
  • If you don't have any images to submit, you can still help out.
  • If you have any more questions, see the FAQ or feel free to ask a staff member.
Thank you, and have a good time uploading here!

Card scans

Hi there! First off, thank you for your recent contributions, it's always great to see enthusiasm for TCG content.

Regarding a handful of scans that you recently uploaded, I wanted to let you know that we've reverted these back to their originals. While I really appreciate that you specifically scoped out cards tagged as bad images, we generally much prefer TCG card scans that users have provided themselves; per the manual of style, scans from other websites should only be used if no others are available, and they must be credited (and certain sources don't like their images to be used, even with credit). Even though the current images aren't up to the standard we'd like, they're still decent user-submitted images, so we wouldn't tend to replace them with externally sourced scans. However, I do own a small number of these, so I'll endeavour to scan them in the near future to replace our existing images.

Thanks again for your recent contributions, and if you have any questions about this or anything else, please don't hesitate to reach out. Thanks! Cipher (talk) 10:49, 12 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hey Cipher,
Thanks for the info. My bad. I didn't read that part in the manual and I saw other images, usually of TCG products, with watermarks from other websites without credit, like from CardTeam.co.uk.
Nonetheless, I will keep this in mind and I will only use external images when no others are available.
Thanks again. New Person (talk) 13:51, 12 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Don't worry about it! Product images are slightly different; user-provided images are totally fine, although there are usually some officially-released press/marketing images that don't have watermarks, and we tend to use those whenever they're available. (The ones you uploaded for the Fennekin and Froakie blisters are perfect, for example). Ultimately, while we do have some images with watermarks, poor quality etc., we ideally want to replace them all - even though it's bound to take time - and we may also need to look into more efficient ways of tagging unsatisfactory images, specifically in the TCG (it's on my to-do list). Product images

Hi there, thanks again for your recent contributions. I wanted to let you know that a small number of your recent product image uploads have been reverted. I should have been clearer about these in my previous message, so my apologies for that. Officially released press/marketing images are fine if they're sourced from somewhere that has legitimately received them (such as some online stores, such as Target or Best Buy), but not from other sites. With product photos or scans, as with card scans, these should also only come from user contributions (i.e. a user taking a photo or scan of their own copy) rather than someone else's image from a third-party website. While it's great that you've listed the source for each of these images - it's really important for us to confirm image sources wherever possible - a small number of them are still not able to be used for one or more of the above reasons, so have been reverted. Apologies again for not being clearer before, I hope this makes sense, and feel free to reach out if you have any questions about this or anything else. Cipher (talk) 11:12, 14 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Image summaries

Thank you for your work uploading new images to the archives, polite request that when you upload new images to provide a summary about the image, feel free to have a look at your recent images that I've edited to get an idea what I mean by this, if you're still unsure, feel free to ask me or another member, we're happy to help.--BigDocFan, Junior Admin Bulbapedia (talk) 00:30, 16 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hey BigDocFan,
I always mean to go back and add summaries to the images that I upload after I add them into the actual article but other people (probably active admins like you) end up beating me to it!
In the future, I will make sure to add an accurate summary right as I upload the image.
