Welcome

Bulbagarden Archives logo.png
Welcome to the Bulbagarden Archives, PsychicRider!

As a new user, you may wish to learn a few things that will be useful in your uploading:

The Manual of Style, or MoS, outlines the format and guidelines of all images on Bulbagarden Archives.

All of our administrators are here to help! Talk to them if you have any questions or problems with the Archives.

Tagging images with correct licenses and categories is a must. These guidelines will help you learn more about tagging images.

Miscellaneous
  • Please read the checklist when you upload media files. The checklist is there to make sure you are doing everything necessary when uploading said media files.
  • Be sure to tag and categorize all images. This helps organize the vast amount of images we have here.
  • Check if your image already exists by searching through categories, and Bulbapedia pages. This action will help prevent unnecessary duplicates from appearing.
  • When adding a licensing tag to anime or game screenshots, please avoid just choosing "Screenshot". This is not descriptive and places the images in the wrong category. Make sure to choose "Screenshot from a Pokémon game," or "Screenshot from the Pokémon anime." This will put them in the right categories, and help keep the Archives clean.
  • Does your image have a purpose? Will you be using it on a Bulbagarden Project? Avoid uploading images because you think they are "Cute" or "Awesome". That clutters the Archives.
  • Personal images are limited to two for each User. Personal images include personal logos, personal trainer sprites, drawings, trainer cards and mostly any image that would only be used in the User: namespace and have no encyclopedic value to Bulbagarden and its affiliates. Please tag these with the {{i-Personal}} template for easier organization. Under no circumstance should a photograph of one's self ever be uploaded onto Bulbagarden Archives.
  • In addition, please upload images with meaningful names. Names that are just numbers, for example, do not describe anything about the image, and can make it difficult for searchers. Names are just as important as licenses and categories, so make them descriptive. Please be sure that the filenames contain alphanumeric characters only.
  • Due to the many automated templates used on the wiki, lowercase extensions are imperative. That means jpg and png instead of JPG and PNG. It looks cleaner, it works better, and it does not cause any problems. Make sure to always use lowercase extensions.
  • If you're confused about the requirements for uploading files, have a look at this guide.
Thank you, and have a good time uploading here!

Because logging onto AIM would be far too silly

I see you've been fixing people's crappy uploads. If possible, could you get these higher-quality versions in png format, reupload to a new filename and tag the old one with delete? If the ones you are finding are in jpg already feel free to ignore this message; just that png is preferred and if we can get png, it would be good to have it. —darklordtrom 21:47, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

As silly as this sounds, nah...If I save them as File.png, it shows as a png, but it makes them unable to upload to the Archives. --PsychicRider 21:51, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
You need to upload to a new filename. png cannot replace a jpg image. —darklordtrom 21:54, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
I saved Oreburgh as Oreburgh as .png, but it told me "The file is corrupt or has an incorrect extension. Please check the file and upload again." ----PsychicRider 21:55, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
Assuming you mean the Oceanic museum... I just got it as png. No idea what's wrong. —darklordtrom 22:03, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
Well I saved my own Oceanic Museum using all types when I was saving it, so it went to png automatically, but it still said above... D:. The only ones that work to upload, are JPEG...----PsychicRider 22:05, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
Maybe if you save it explicitly as png? I'm really not sure what's happening. —darklordtrom 22:15, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
...When I'm supposed to save as png, I save it as File.png, or I rename it as file.png...It always fails...Like seriously, no joke...If it's anything but png, it's like "OhMaGawd! I'm funna be on Bulbagarden", PNGs are like "No! Does not want"...----PsychicRider 22:20, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

Anime Images

Whenever uploading images of anime scenes, please upload them as PNG files. A JPEG file is typically of lesser quality than a PNG file and, as a result, just about everything outside of TCG scans are supposed to be PNGs.

Also, don't convert JPEGs to PNGs and expect them to pass. Doing such retains all of the JPEG qualities and serves to merely increase the size of a lower-quality file. Very rarely does such an image remain in usage for long before it gets replaced. Instead, whenever you want to upload an anime screenshot, save it directly as a PNG. It's not that hard, as many image editors support PNG these days, and even Paint in Windows 7 saves images in PNG by default. --Shiningpikablu252 18:27, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

Yeah I don't have any image editors...BUT, Paint did the trick~. Thanks so much. :D --PsychicRider 20:58, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

Hey. Any way to upload some clearer images of Giga Impact so we could actually see a little more of the face? Just curious. :ht14 01:39, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Uh...I dunno...D:...I just try to get one that has more of the move in it...>_>. --Psyライダー 01:58, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
Oh well... ht14 02:11, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Uploading new files

Read the top. i.e. no é. ht14 19:21, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

Also, when using {{delete}}, please write the reason for it no matter how obvious it may seem. ht14 19:22, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
As in not writing that it's no longer needed because it's JPG/JPEG? --PsychicRider 19:47, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
Yes that, but more like labeling certain duplicates, like "duplicate/copy of <insert file here>." That's the purpose of the reason section. If it's extremely obvious though, then fine. ht14 19:48, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
D:. Sorry, I don't really use the Delete thing here usually...So I didn't know...As for the é, I figured it was well OK since it's common in the name...D:. --PsychicRider 19:51, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
Because of a user who added parentheses in the filename, the server crashed for about a third of a day. Not pleasant. I got yelled at even though it wasn't even my fault... x.x Oh well. There seems to be no problems at the moment though. ht14 19:57, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
Well, should it be added that é's should also not be added because it seems like it would be more common to add cause it's in Pokémon so often? --PsychicRider 20:12, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
Interesting point, but the other welcome page says that é should be there... so... ht14 22:03, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
I was wrong, on the basis of Maverick, but I'm right on the basis of Kevzo... so... ht14 23:52, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
I really don't want to block you, but don't forget about no non-alphanumeric characters in the title. I personally don't mind, but... yeah. ht14 01:37, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

For using apostrophes? --Psyライダー 01:39, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Yup. I personally disagree and think it's only issues with hyphens and other symbols at the end of the file, but if you disagree (like me), then ask. I'm not sure if Mav is ok with it, but Kevzo is changing them, so... yeah. See here for details. 01:43, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
Oh, well I knew that I couldn't use alphanumeric characters, but I didn't realize that even though it is something different, that ' would be able to cause problems...>>. My bad...--Psyライダー 01:45, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
As DETH said, we're not sure if it does cause problems, but to be on the safe side. ht14 01:48, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
OK. --Psyライダー 01:49, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Templates

{{p}} and {{m}} are still in effect here. Thus, it'd be {{p|Budew}} using {{m|Mega Drain}} in the anime, not {{bp|Budew}} using {{bp|Mega Drain}} in the anime. Yeah, don't forget to tag the move as well. Thanks. ht14 02:39, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

JPG->PNG

It's obvious that these are converted. The RGB Kanto was for sure JPG->PNG. I have the original.--immewnitythemew 21:10, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

...FAIL. Well, the version you uploaded was a JPG version of the other one we had. I'll upload this "perfect" version.--immewnitythemew 21:17, 21 May 2010 (UTC)
You know, you don't have to be a dick about it. You can go take your little snobby attitude elsewhere, kthanx...I'm not interested in your problems. I uploaded a PNG, and you didn't like it. It's as simple as that to come and tell me that instead of saying FAIL the first time, got it? Also, if you want to not worry about it, how about you upload the image in a better quality the first time... --Psyライダー 21:30, 21 May 2010 (UTC)
Sorry if this sounded rude; I didn't mean for it to. Here are a bunch of HUGE cookies to make up for it! :D

P.S. I was saying fail to myself, btw. I thought the original image was JPG, but it was BMP. What must have happened was someone saved the image as a BMP, opened it in Paint, saved as a JPG, uploaded it, then you downloaded it, converted it to PNG, and uploaded it. Confusing. :)--immewnitythemew 21:01, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

Well, the high quality JPG pics were unnecessary, but all in all, I accept your apology. Thank you for apologizing, and no hard feelings at all. --Psyライダー 21:26, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
I guess that's what to expect from me; high-resolution images that occasionally crash the server... *sweatdrop*--immewnitythemew 22:16, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
Uh...right...--Psyライダー 05:05, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

Preference

You notice how most of the anime images are File:X anime.png, not File:X Anime.png? Can you try that as well? Consistency purposes. It's up to you though. ht14 17:15, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

Well...to be honest...I noticed that some were File:Xanime, File:X anime, and some before were File: X Anime...and I kinda like File:X Anime, so I adapted to that...So sorry...D: --Psyライダー 17:25, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
As I said, preference, so no worries. =] ht14 17:27, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
Should I upload to lowercase anime? --Psyライダー 17:28, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
Preference? Consistency? The choice is yours. ht14 17:35, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
Alright, I'll try to remember anime, but no promises, cause I'll likely forget...D; --Psyライダー 17:40, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks!

For the hires cat thing. It made it go by a LOT faster. Now just to find images people forgot to categorize...--immewnitythemew 20:20, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanksss

Minor reminder

Check to see if the images are used in Bulbanews as well. ht14 22:46, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

He got banned on BP for a day (don't ask why, lol), so that's why he can't go around replacing the images. I've done some, but I'm kind of busy with other things right now. His ban should be lifted in a few minutes. JelloTalk 23:03, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
Or another 3 hours...>:U. --Psyライダー 23:30, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
I've noticed, though that wasn't quite the point of this reminder... but sure. ht14 23:48, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
I know you know, but just another reminder... on the other side of the spectrum, we'll make sure it says so in the summary as well. ht14 00:56, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

Image request

While you're at it... can you upload Stadium 1 of Brawl? The current one is in gif... ht14 02:08, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

BAM! Done, you're welcome~. --Psyライダー 02:29, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

AAAAAAAAAGH

Oh god, I did not mean to send you to Rollback Hell on this page. I am so sorry; this mouse sucks. Darkeiya 02:16, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Don't worry about it Darke. Me and a certain blonde haired musician will make it up to you. :D --Psyライダー 02:29, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Hey PR

Those that appear more than once in the anime are given the licensing: {{i-Fairuse-screenshot-anime-character}}, which in turn leads to Anime characters. Movie characters get their own category, Movie characters. All other COTDs are as per usual. ht14 19:20, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

Hmmm...Ok..I'll try to remember that next time...>_>. --Psyライダー 19:48, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

Why did you do that

>v> Beta Zero 20:12, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

Welcome you? We're supposed to do that to anyone who actually contributes...:V. --Psyライダー 20:15, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

May I suggest...

... you use {{anmv}}? Not quite sure how it works, but it works wonders. TC uses it a lot. Just more organized, but it needs to be subst:. ht14 04:30, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

Do I have to? I mean, I don't know if there's a problem with how I'm doing it, but should I be using that? --Psyライダー 04:32, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
Just for organization purposes... or do what I do... type the whole thing out. Minor things. It's not a big problem since I clean it up anyway, but yeah. ht14 04:34, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
I think I tried it once, but it gave me two summaries and two licenses or something weird, so i stopped using it :V --Psyライダー 04:46, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
You need to get used to it, but as I said, you could just type it all out. ht14 01:50, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

Super Effective

Include the 0 for the first nine strips so that they sort good. I've moved the two we have.

Uh... I'm not here right now. I'm in class, working hard. Yeah. —darklordtrom 23:49, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

Alrighty o7. --Psyライダー 00:34, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

PidgiWiki stuff

Keep in mind the original pics were JPG. I didn't convert them. At least Surface Blur the images with a low setting if you are to do that.--immewnitythemew 20:29, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

._.? I have no idea what that means...:V --Psyライダー 20:31, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
The Torchic pic was a JPG. You uploaded it as a PNG. To remove JPG artifacts, install Paint.NET, open the image, and go to Effects>Blurs>Surface Blur and put the setting on 2 for the first thing, and 5 for the second. If you're still confused, I'll help you later; I gotta go.--immewnitythemew 20:34, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
Does it work on Macs? --Psyライダー 20:38, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
Sadly, no. There should be some equivalent, though.--immewnitythemew 22:00, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
Well I'm using a Mac, and I figured as much, so I uploaded as is. D:. --Psyライダー 22:05, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

Excuse me

Not to be rude, but is there any particular reason you reverted me? Replaced the Weezing picture with the one where half of the Pokémon is blocked out by Ash's big head? Missingno. Master 14:03, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

Because the one you uploaded was ugly and small. --Psyライダー 14:11, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, the quality was extremely bad (from youtube perhaps?), it would be preferred if you could upload an equal or higher quality screenshot of that. Jellotalk 17:44, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

Junk

Hey Psy, I manually checked the "anime screenshots" section and there are a lot (I do mean A LOT) of images which are not needed, some of them are in jpgs even though we have their pngs and some are not transparent. So, I was wondering will it be okay to delete all those junky images (as we have their better versions already). I know it'll take a lot of time but we really need to get rid off that junk yard. It is way too time taking because Anime screenshots section is a huge thing so I prefer to check Pokemon category wise instead. But it will take me some time to find and put delete template on all of 'em as my exams are on their way. So, will it be Okay? Thank you. ♫♪AdyNiz♪♫ 02:13, 16 October 2010 (UTC)

This is the section I started with when I first joined Bulbapedia/the Archives. Trust me, it's an ongoing job, and well it's going to take a while. Jellotalk 02:31, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
Oh, well I'll try to continue this on-going thing along with transparency fix issue *Slow and Steady Wins the Race :P*. I really want to help you out with Generation V stuff but I don't have the games and I'm not a game-fan either :( ♫♪AdyNiz♪♫ 02:41, 16 October 2010 (UTC)

Flamethrower images

Man!! Why did you deleted the images that i uploaded? they aren't so difference of the awful image (nobody can not see charizard well) that was before. I will upload a new version with a better quality, but i found two new images even better. take a look and reply me if you liked... they are these: File:Charizard Flamethrower3.png or File:Charizard FLametrhower4.png

But the image of today is terrible thanks fou you attention!

Pedraito 16:47, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

Your image was smaller than the original, and grainy, so it was definitely not better than the original, I can see Charizard just fine. I would rather the image be of current animation style, if possible. I'm not particularly fond of either of them, but the first one is kinda better. However, just because I like that one better, don't think that is reason to change them, because I won't allow it to stay, okay? --Psyライダー 17:07, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
I'm here again to ask you to reconsider in your decision, the current image is small (320px), not so high quality, bad desingned(mainly charizard) and you can not matter with it, but my favorite pokemon is charizard and i always make big efforts to find this image, I can't sleep when i remember that image as in charizard and flamethrower article. I don't wanna be boring but i will ask you one more time, can i replace the curret picture for this oneFile:Charizard Flamethrower3.png ? man, we have to admit, it is better.... thanks Pedraito 00:13, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
