Deletion
Hi. If you think an image should be deleted, just write {{delete}} on it, and one of the administrators will sort it out. That's easier than blanking the page because it puts it in a category of images to be deleted. Thanks! — THE TROM — 10:21, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
Category
Make sure that you put categories on every image you upload.This helps other people find images later, and prevents duplicates. Please make sure to put as many appropriate categories on your images every time. Each Pokémon has a category, and the rest can be found here. Maverick Nate 18:01, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks, I didn't realize I was supposed to do that. I'll try and remember to categorize everything from now on. Zesty Cactus 18:03, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
- Category:Ash Ketchum, and also, you can put the categories right into the summary box in the upload screen. Maverick Nate 21:34, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
PokéSpe Covers
For the Pokémon Special/Adventures covers, try to categorize them into Category:Pokémon Special cover artwork for Japanese covers and Category:Pokémon Adventures cover artwork for any English Adventures-related book. --☆Coolピカチュウ! 20:10, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
Code layout
Every image gets a summary, also categories go at the bottom of pages. Also, make sure that pages look like the following example:
==Summary==
Description of the image
==Licensing:==
{{fairuse tag}}
[[Category:The category name]]
Deleting
Modifications to the delete template have been made. Next time type {{delete|reason}} so the (lazy? ;p) admins don't have to look through the edit summary to see why it ought to be vaporized. —darklordtrom 07:33, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
- Alright. Thanks for letting me know. Zesty Cactus 22:48, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
Next time instead of uploading a duplicate so you can have a specific filename, an administrator can {{move}}
the file to the better name for you. —darklordtrom 01:49, 19 October 2009 (UTC)
- Better... but be more specific which file it's duplicating. Thanks! ht14 05:03, 13 December 2009 (UTC)

Hey
When you're adding the licensing, you may as well categorize and add a summary... ht14 03:03, 13 January 2010 (UTC)
I have to ask
Why exactly are you uploading the Chapter covers as Jpgs? I mean we already have png versions of the images you're uploading..
I mean...I just went through each jpg and replaced them with pngs...and it feels kind of a waste to have them replaced by jpgs again..-_- no offense though..Ataro 23:17, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
- Anyways, think you can just upload them as pngs over the old files since they have the title in them? Thanks --Psyライダー☮ 01:22, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
- The reason why I'm switching them is because we're switching all manga chapters to having the title page as the main image... my scanner automatically saves everything as .jpg, though I guess I could convert it to .png in paint or something. Zesty Cactus 02:32, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
Congratulations
Thanks for all the hard work you've done on the Archives. Welcome aboard the new team. I trust that you will use your new magical powers well and help keep this place organized. Have fun! (but not too much fun, this is work remember!) —♥ Jellotalk 09:23, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

Do you know which chapter you got this image from? Pattyman 03:06, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

Nom nom
I love cactuses. They're so delicious. They're better with age probably. Where is Psy going with this? Your work and dedication to helping the Archives has earned you a Senior Administrator rank. Keep up the good work. 8D --P S Yライダー☮ 21:07, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

While you're at it
Can you upload images of the rest of Shū's Pokémon? Pattyman 01:42, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
- I will be doing it. I just got the books in the mail from France earlier this week so once i clean up the image categories i will be scanning those books soooo much 8D --ZestyCactus 01:43, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks, can't wait to see this (after you're done with the image categories). Pattyman 01:46, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
Have an image to add to a page
Hello Zesty, I have an image of the trophy I received from the winner of the Pokémon 2000 Stadium Tour tournament. I was wondering how I would submit it to the site and add it to the page & article I wrote since I don't have permission to upload. --Zakurowrath 02:52, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
- If you haven't been autoconfirmed for uploading new files yet, if it's good for you you can upload it to a third-party host (such as Photobucket?) and I can upload it for you from that link (I can give you credit in the summary). --ZestyCactus 21:31, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
I fixed the problem, everytime I went to the archive page it logged me out for some reason. Thanks for the help! --Zakurowrath 09:17, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
Manga
Uhm scans or pictures from the manga should be jpg or png ?----DJWolfy 22:02, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
- I would prefer png format if possible - it expands and shrinks better in thumbnails and the image quality is usually better. --ZestyCactus 22:40, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
Bigger cover scan for Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Ginji's Rescue Team
Hi, could you upload this cover scan in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Ginji's Rescue Team article on Bulbapedia? It's a much bigger resolution: [1] I would upload it myself, but I don't have the rights and maybe not the knowledge either. PokeAwesome94
Add Phantom Thief! Pokémon V article to Pokémon manga article's Original stories section
Hi, could you add the Phantom Thief! Pokémon V article to the Pokémon manga article. It should be in the Original stories section. I tried editing it myself and I almost got it done, but I couldn't write the html code (or whatever code it is) good enough. I would be grateful if you could help me with this. PokeAwesome94
- Should be good to go as well. Just try to copy the wikicode from the other entries, like by copying and pasting a similar entry then changing the information. That's mostly how I learned ^^' --ZestyCactus 02:37, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
Add some images of the characters in Phantom Thief! Pokémon V to it's article
I thought the Phantom Thief! Pokémon V article looked a little bit empty, so I found some images of the characters on Bulbagarden Archives that you might could add to the article. PokeAwesome94 (talk) 21:33, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
Bigger image of the Pokédex holders
Hi, could you upload this image of the Pokédex holders? It's bigger, though I'm uncertain if it's clear enough: [2] PokeAwesome94 (talk) 19:14, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
- I'd prefer to keep the current image because it's not as fuzzy. --ZestyCactus 19:42, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
Bigger cover scan of Pokémon Zensho
Hi, I found this cover scan of Pokémon Zensho and I was wondering I you could upload it in the Pokémon Zensho article since it's a bigger resolution. Here's the image, png and ready to go: [3] PokeAwesome94 (talk) 20:58, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
- I'd kind of prefer to keep the existing image this time as it's one i scanned myself as opposed to grabbed from some random website. :< --ZestyCactus 20:31, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
Hey yo!
Just a heads up of something you may not know. Whenever you don't specifically use the licensing drop down for uploading images, the summary heading won't appear. So, because you are coding the licensing header into the summary box, the summary header isn't showing up on your final products. MaverickNate 05:27, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
- Ohhh I didn't realise that, sorry! Most of the manga headers aren't in the drop down box so I'm usually copying and pasting the header from previous files. Sorry for the trouble, I will remember that in the future ^^' --ZestyCactus 05:41, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
Meowth
Could you upload an image of Team Rocket's Meowth under Mondo's ownership since the one on the page is just Team Rocket's Meowth under Team Rocket's ownership? Although unrelated to the matter, is the radio drama canon to the anime? Pattyman (talk) 05:15, 20 July 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah, I was thinking about that cause there is a picture in the booklet of Mondo trying to cooperate with Meowth and I was thinking that's better for the article than a random picture from like Best Wishes series XD (my copy of the CD came in the mail today :3) I personally consider the two radio dramas canon to the anime, but I have no idea what the accepted consensus is around here. The Birth of Mewtwo radio drama was partly adapted into The Uncut Story Of Mewtwo's Origin and added to the "Kanzenban" version of M01 so if you consider the two dramas to be of equal standing, I suppose it's no more or less canon than that. Of course, Miyamoto, Madame Boss and Mondo conveniently don't appear or get referenced in any other sources so it's anybody's guess, I suppose. I suppose you could take it like the "expanded universe" of Star Wars. --ZestyCactus 05:23, 20 July 2013 (UTC)

Sprite Duplicates
A little while ago I went through the Gen I overworld sprites and noticed just about every Trainer Class and important character has their own image despite a large portion of them using the same sprite. I put the delete request template on a lot of them since they're duplicates but I was wondering which file is decided as the original? Bill and Brock both use the same sprite as a few Trainer Classes, so which one should be the one kept? Also, should I be the one to change the files on the 'pedia or let whoever decides to delete the dupes do it? Glik (talk) 04:26, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
- You can definitely relink the sprites yourself, it actually makes it easier for the staff member who deletes them (probably me) because they don't have to relink it themself ^^' I'm not really quite sure which one classifies as the "original" though. I guess the most widely used, or maybe the first one alphabetically? I don't even really know haha. Just pick one I guess :P --ZestyCactus 04:30, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
Upload attempt
So, I'm not entirely sure of why, but when trying to upload a screenshot to the Archives, I was told I am not allowed to create new pages. I don't use the archives often, so I'm not sure what's changed in terms of what users can and cannot do, but is there a way I can possibly upload a new image? For reference, the image was of Dr. Fuji's silhouette in Pokémon Origins, which I was trying to upload for the possibility of adding to the proper article. Regards, Schiffy (瀬藤健二) (Talk Contribs) 21:04,1/20/2014 (UTC)
- Hi there Schiffy, to add new images on the Archives, you must first be autoconfirmed. To become autoconfirmed requires a certain number of edits, which can be achieved by tagging and categorizing images and helping with general cleanup. For more information, see Archives:FAQ. Once you are autoconfirmed, you should be able to upload images easily. Hope that helps! --ZestyCactus 03:43, 21 January 2014 (UTC)
- Seems odd though, since I have uploaded new images in the past, but after that, I linked my accounts on the three Bulbagarden sites. So, I'm not sure if there's any relation or if it was just a user rights change.... Schiffy (瀬藤健二) (Talk Contribs) 04:24,1/21/2014 (UTC)
- Well I think by pure chance that last message of mine threw me into the autoconfirmed group..... Problem solved then, I guess. Schiffy (瀬藤健二) (Talk Contribs) 19:30,1/21/2014 (UTC)
Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs manga adaptation
I'm not sure what name I should give the images from the adaptation nor what the actual name of the manga is called. Do you have any suggestions regarding so since different names are used in different pages? Pattyman (talk) 22:57, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
- Err, I'm not familiar with that one, sorry! iunno maybe something like RGS (Ranger Guardian Signs) for now? --ZestyCactus 02:54, 7 August 2014 (UTC)
Image upload
I have an image of Umbreon and Espeon (Gates to Infinity) from the game animation that was uploaded by nintendo on youtube. Is it notable enough to upload? I had previously asked this question to Kogoro, but she seems to be on hiatus. →PikaTepig999★ 08:51, 7 February 2015 (UTC)
- She's just gone away for a couple of days. What purpose do you plan to upload the image for? In my books, image notability is generally determined by its usefulness in other Bulbagarden projects. If you don't really have a use for it on Bulbapedia or Bulbanews, it's not really worth it. --ZestyCactus 16:02, 8 February 2015 (UTC)
- It can be used in the info box instead of the game sprite, which is not clear. →PikaTepig999★ 15:27, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
- Sounds reasonable to me then. --ZestyCactus 15:06, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

Guidebooks
I noticed that many of the Pokémon guidebooks filenames aren't consistent with each other, each of them being named differently. Any suggestions on their naming convention? Pattyman (talk) 02:48, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

CPIW manga
I noticed that you wrote down the epicodes for the Pokémon Omega Ruby Crimson Passion and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire Indigo Wisdom as CPIW. If you want, you can move all instances of ASIW and ORCP to CPIW on the image file names since it would make sense to have them that way, especially for characters who appeared in both such as Steven Stone. Excuse me, about uploading...
Hi, I just wanted to upload some images on Super Mystery Dungeon's dungeons, but I lack the necessary permissions to do this. Therefore, would you please grant me permission to upload images? Sincerely, IM-T-MAN2 (talk) 13:08, 10 December 2015 (UTC)
- Just wanted to interrupt. In order to be allowed to upload files, you have to be a user for a certain (undisclosed) amount of time and also make a certain number of edits. Stick around and edit for a bit and you will find yourself being able to upload in no time. ht14 17:01, 10 December 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, it is exactly as ht14 has explained. Unfortunately to become autoconfirmed and gain permission to upload files is an automated process done by the wiki software and I have no control over it (nor does any of the other staff). Let me know if you have any more questions. --ZestyCactus 03:55, 11 December 2015 (UTC)
Uploading XY party screen screenshot
Hi, I've been directed to you by Abcboy to obtain authorisation to upload a screenshot from a 3DS game. See: User_talk:Abcboy#XY_party_screenshot_for_Party_page on Bulbapedia. (Sorry, the CAPTCHA isn't loading) Angelsl (talk) 12:10, 6 February 2016 (UTC)
- Hi! Your screenshot looks good, I'll just need you to send me a test pic (as Abcboy mentioned in his talk page). You're playing XY, right? I'll ask you to catch a Flabébé (I don't care what colour lol), nickname it Syd and send me a pic of its stats screen (you can just post it here). Once I can verify this you're free to upload :D thank you!! --ZestyCactus 06:44, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
Problematic User
Special:ListFiles/Brandondorf9999 - On other NIWA wikis, such as MarioWiki (I am very active there), this user was known for uploading disallowed images, such as forced widescreen screenshots when the game was incapable of rendering widescreen natively (such as Pokémon XD), FOV abuse in images (File:Pokemon Battle Revolution intro.png), and apply Photoshop to images. This isn't all. This is what I have found on MarioWiki. Just thought I let you know and keep an eye out for that and handle any images uploaded by him to the Bulbapedia Archives and handle his images appropriately. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 04:44, 2 July 2016 (UTC)
- My apologies for not responding to your message sooner. As Brandondorf9999 hasn't contributed to Bulbagarden Archives in over one year, I don't really think any action is required at this time. However if he does upload any problem images in the future, myself or the other staff will deal with him at that time. --ZestyCactus 02:03, 7 July 2016 (UTC)
- Action against him wasn't what I was looking for (although it would be nice because he has created sockpuppets on MarioWiki to evade a ban). The main action I was looking for is close examination of his uploads, especially screenshots of games. I am not overly familiar with the Pokémon games he has uploaded screenshots for, but if anything is out of place, just tag images with

Special:MIMESearch/image/gif, should all these GIFs be tagged with {{gif}}
(44 images)? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 05:53, 18 September 2016 (UTC)
- Not necessarily. I did go through them all and tag the ones that could stand to be converted. I ignored the "IC" ones because I'm not sure what the deal with them is and some of them are used on a lot of pages. I also ignored "Bulbagarden Forums logo 2003.gif" since it's a historic site logo so I figured it's better off the way it originally is (and that if Kogoro wanted it uploaded in a different format, she would have done so herself when she uploaded it only last year). Similarly, I ignored "EvklAvatar.gif" since it's a site-related icon that was uploaded for use in a Bulbanews article from 2007 so I think it can probably be ignored. I tagged or deleted the rest (I actually discovered a few of those images weren't being used anyway so there's no point in converting them lol). --ZestyCactus 04:13, 19 September 2016 (UTC)
- The IC images are sprites found in Generation III and Generation IV games for types, contest conditions, or damage category (IV only). Strangely, these GIFs are not being used on main articles. I traced the GIF usage to Template:Ic so editing should be rather easy when a properly ripped PNG is available. Can those GIFs be reconsidered for
{{gif}}
? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 19:55, 19 September 2016 (UTC)- Sorry for butting into the conversation but, I do have png replacements for the IC images (if we want to switch them over). If we do switch them over, I am willing to go and switch all the uses over that are not called on be the Template:Ic. Also, "WailmerPromo.gif" did have a jpg version that was deleted that can be restored to replace it. Adamws (talk) 20:24, 19 September 2016 (UTC)
- The impression Bulbapedia gives me is that the Editorial Board doesn't want JPEGs at all. The JPEG that was deleted would be eligible for
{{jpg}}
if restored, unless the policy towards JPEGs are more relaxed compared to GIF, as PNG replaces everything with 24-bit color + alpha channel and better compression algorithms compared to GIF being limited to 8-bit color + transparency only (even the unofficial APNG format replaces what GIF can do officially). --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 00:16, 20 September 2016 (UTC)- I just want to pop in and say that Chenzw uploaded png sprites of the Generation VI icons for the move categories and the move types last month. However, we are still missing png versions of the contest categories. --Carmen★ (Talk | contribs) 03:53, 20 September 2016 (UTC)
- Generally, JPEG images are unfavourable because they lose image quality easily and also the PNGs generally show up in thumbnails better. I seem to recall Maverick Nate telling me a while back that card images should be uploaded as JPEG anyway though. A cursory glance at recent TCG sets shows that they are still being uploaded as .jpg, so maybe it would be best to contact him about that. Regardless, I dunno what the heck happened with this Wailmer card but the JPG would probably be better than the GIF in either case.
- As for the IC images, it turns out they've never been converted to PNGs since it wouldn't really make a difference in image quality (I guess they don't use many colours if they're sprites from the games). Since the difference in image quality is basically nil, it's not really worth the use of time and server resources to fix. I guess if they were being uploaded today, they probably would be PNG, but they're already there, so it can be ignored at this time. --ZestyCactus 04:51, 20 September 2016 (UTC)
- JPEG is lossy while PNG is lossless. Converting from JPEG to PNG directly doesn't fix the quality issue but rather bloats file size. PNG is the easiest to work with because no compounding lossy compression with each save to edit.
- The direct conversion from GIF to PNG doesn't do anything as well but the compression is better if it were in PNG (after pngout or something has been applied to the PNG). If the sprites or screenshots were taken from a raw (uncompressed) source (such as bitmap), all colors would be preserved if saved in PNG and not GIF. Adamws says he's got the PNG replacements. Should someone else take care of pages protected from edits by regular users? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 05:24, 20 September 2016 (UTC)
- No. As I mentioned upthread, they do not need to be changed. End of discussion. --ZestyCactus 05:52, 20 September 2016 (UTC)
- OK. Thanks for getting that clarified. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 08:49, 20 September 2016 (UTC)
